From the Handler's Point of View

So here i am on Sunday, sitting at the Computer with an ice pack on my left knee and enough Advil in me to choke a horse. I am back from the National and it is still all a blur, let me share with you some random events and thoughts. This not a cohesive essay, but just some random thoughts!!!!

General Comments:

-Firstly the National is just a great event, period!!!! If you want to see great dogs and visit with all your old friends and make new one's, there is no better venue.

-As Jerry Guzman expressed eloquently to group of us the National is a "showcase" for your dogs. There are three judges in the ring, but 500 in the stands, each with their own point of view.

-The Loveland Ranch is a lovely site and from a handler's point of view the sod and arena were fantastic. Thank you to the Rocky Mountain Club for putting on a first class event.

- Injured Handlers perserved and showed their passion for the sport. Kent, Jerry,I and others were noticibly hurting, but adrenaline when you have good dog at the end of the lead takes over.

- The new group of Handler's of on the verge of taking over(they are talented, young and the breed is in good hands with them). Trust them with your good dogs.

- Army of One is one of the greatest GV that i have witnessed.

Personal Comments:

- My close friends Ed Hill, Martello's,Ileana,Thurban Warrick,Richard and Liz Sottile,Shirley O'Brien. What would i do without them. My National was made by sharing our experiences TOGETHOR!!! Thank you for a life experience that will be hard to forget.

- Thank you to Doris Easterbrook for supporting Black Orchid and me.

- I was mistaken in the ring by one judge as "Sergio". It helped my placing and i will gladly take it. This is a funny story, not something that should be taken in the wrong vein. Mexican, Indians, Power to the Brown People, we have arrived. I believe Susan Casey will report more.

- Richard Sottile saved my national. Richard is the world's greatest Chiropractor and every day he would adjust my knees and legs twice a day, so i could make it thru the day. On Friday night before specials it was not looking too good that i could go on Saturday. But an early morning visit on
Saturday to Richard took care of me. The lesson for the day! Every Handler over the age of 40(and there are plenty) should put a Chiropractor on their Xmas list as a Client.

- I went to the Cracker Barrel with Ed, Thurban, Richard/Liz and Ileana and we were having a rollicking good time until the poor waiter poured "Collard Greens" over my Head. The group had a great laugh and i looked like a Giant Chicken and "SH*T" all over me and i smelled worse.

- When Ed Barritt put the Black Bitch Black Orchid in the Front from 8th or 9th. The crowd was going wild, Carloyn was crying but good old Mr. Barritt he put things in perspective. He calmly walked over to me and gave me some very sage advice. He put his arm on my shoulder and said calmly "Bill,
Don't F**K it up". It will be a sentance i will take to my grave.

- Art Sinclair who handled Army and I go way back and share our roots with a man, most of you won't know. His name is Robert Sisemore, his kennel name is Suboja. He introduced both of us to GSD's, he allowed us both the opportunity to handle and he has been a dear friend and supporter for all
these years. After the end of the day i called Bob and told him protege's had had a hell of a good day, it was really satisfying to thank him for all he had done.

- Having handled the GVX has not really sunk in yet. All i can say, is having a great black bitch that can sidegait with the best against a white wall that is 200 feet long can't hurt. To go GVX, you have to have everything come togethor. Black Orchid was completely out of coat but Carolyn did a
great grooming judge. Ed Barritt did not need coat to appreciate her virtues, thank god. We were fortunate, there were great bitches behind us and you appreciate your win that much more because of that.

Thank you to Mr. Barritt, Thank You to the Crowd for their support and Thank You to all my Friends that shared in this special moment.

Life is good today!!!!

WDS Results

WDS Results

The first AKC German Shepherd WDS event is now in the books. The big winner was Wayne Curry, with his dog Wilson. They had a 99 track, which was beautiful. I think he had 98's in the other two phases. High scoring female went to Lori Cruiser with Nykee (like Nike). She had a 100 pont track.
:o wow!!!

Tim Cruiser, the trial chairperson, did an excellent job. He put the exhibitors at ease and took good care of us all week.

In the crowd, at various times, I saw Kent Boyles, Suzanne Kinman, Dalene McIntire, Joe Bihari, Cindy Bartley, Lew & Nicky Bunch, Vicki Roye.....and our obedience judge, Dr. William Beauchamp.....and I'm sure many more I just can't recall right now.

My obedience and protection were far better than my tracking. (thank goodness!) Helen and I were paired together for obedience. Funny was a bit down, but came back to life in protection. I was very happy with Zena's run b/c we had nice heeling. She had learned to heel very badly in her
former life, and we finally got it fixed! :)

Bear' s owner donated the last trophy he won to wds HIT. It was
gorgeous,
and real silver - not silverplate. Lea relayed the story to me, and I
explained it to Tim. He wanted to ensure that the winner
understood the
signifigance of this donation, so we asked Lew to speak about
when it was
presented.

Pretty cool.

Now we are on our very long drive home -- exhausted, happy, a little disappointed, but fired up for the next time. So far, it appears we have escaped the weather. (I was a little worried this morning)

There were many interesting things if you take time to look at them. How many selectsdid the Frason's have? Where before have two litter mates gone Select. How many Selects Did Dan and Maryln Smith have. I am sure there are other things to look at too. Tedi and I co-own the sire of the number two male. I know it is a stretch, but I will take any glory I can get.
I watched Ed go over and over his males time and time again to see who he should cut. He didn't find anything when he got down to twenty, and they were all great dogs. The first two were fantastic, and never let up.
Flower Boy helped me most of the way and then Cyndy took over. It was hard on her since by then everyone around us was talking and asking her things, but she did a great job.
There was a great deal of personal animosity shown to me at the show. Some of the board outright were rude, and some even insulting. Nancy Nellis could not have been nicer, and I know she was under pressure from some board members.
I didn't go to the dinner, so someone else will tell you about next years judges. I would have loved to listen to Ed, but in the end the rest of the treatment was not worth it. I enjoyed doing the Blog again, but with the extra pressure, it took the edge off. I spent some good time with Bill Bergraff and he said if the AKC stopped the show we know who to blame. I told him to look at who caused the law suit to be needed, and not the person who sued. It is like blaming the bank because someone robbed it.
I hope we can get back to doing the best we can, and get rid of the personal hatred that caused such terrible acts that hurt our club.
Our breed is strong. The quality was so deep and the wins were deserved. Thanks for letting me share with you and next year has to be better in all ways. I enjoyed the National, but it was not much fun.

The unkindest cut of them allf And the end

OK, now to the good stuff. Thirty left and there are some good ones left.

Ed tells them to go back to the side, and Four take off. And now another four. Isn't he worried that four doesn't go into thirty?  Another four, Again with the four thing, Four more.  The crowd is waking up.  There go four more. Cyndy figured out the pattern, and another four. And the last three.

Ed brings what is left up to the cutting room. And he goes to the front.  He starts to pull, leaving Unconditional Surrender, Ricco, Cargogh, Cruise Control, Solitair Travler, Sirkobrass, Diamond Di Vici, Top Shelf, and the Machu Picchu Winner's Dog, he keeps Top Shelf, and eight waiting for another show and another judge.

He brings around twenty four.

They head for the area they don't want to be, in the cutting area, and still a ways to go.  Now Ed goes to the front, and he looks them over and walks down the line. Still a big group of dogs.  He looks at the end of the line and turns back, makes some notes and heads to the front. He is looking at his notes, and talks to his steward. And they are told to head to the side, and he wants them around again, in groups.

Now six take a pass. Lots of excitement, and another six, Army the last one. He looks good, and is not letting up, with Maximus in front of him. Another six. Going faster now, and no delay behind the groups, some are letting up, and the last group of seven. Bad planning.

And back to the land of the dead.  Now Ed comes up to pull and he pulls the fist five as A group, and leaves Summer Premier, Hells Bells, Just Jack, and Top Shelf.  Only four in the "excuuuuse me" group.

Wow, the crowd is wild, what a lot of noise.  Twenty left.  Ed walks the line, and looks them over, and now he walks to the front.  He is staring at a dog, and I can't tell how, but he likes what he has left.  Will he go with Twenty Selects?

Now he walks back and counts thema nd heads to the front of the line. He needs to find another cut, so he wants them to pass the wall again in groups of five this time, and fast, he watchs them longer and now the second group of five, another group of five, no delay between the group, and five left and there they go.   Back to the bad area for Ed to do his thing.  Moving down to the line and looking them over for another cut.

Ed goes to the end of the line looking at who is there, and he stands and looks them over and slowly he turns, and heads to the front.  He puts his hands in his pockets and looks at the front, and donw the line and with twenty in there, he seems to like them all, and he moves faster now and towards the end and stops and looks at a couple of them and he looks back and now goes to the front again. He is doing a lot of walking and everyone is tense and it is nervous time.

He talks to the steward, and again, pass the wall, and he says "easy" There they go, and no one is going easy, five take a pass, and now another five, Ed is watching a longer pass, and another five before they finish, Scottie in front, and five left and there they go.   Ed watches carefully, and now they are done and back to the area of death.

Still in catalog order, and Ed has to make a choice.  He heads to the front, and he looks at his watch, and he stands and walks down and is placing them is moving them, not cutting them Antonio, Army, Oscar in third, Good to the Last Drop, and no other placements yet, and the rest as they were, and he is looking them over, and the rest are still in catalog order, and he pulled Purple Rain in Fifth, and he sends the rest back, with The Big Red Dog in sixth and takes there goes Trouble Maximus Vinnie The Viper and The Real Deal. And leaves them. That is the order afer eight. Now he takes the last fove Datona. Mocagraia. Miricle, Just Jack and Joshua.  He moves Josh to fourth and Just Jack to five.  Six is Good to The Last drop, Purple Rain and he walks down the ring, and looks them over. I think he might go this way, nine is Nicarauga.  He looks at them and says stand back to the first five and says something to the rest of them to make sure he doesn't miss anything.    He takes around the next five.  He is giving everyone a look and now he takes the next six, and he is not using the white wall and looks hard at them.

Army still in second with Antonia in front. Now the remaining four.  And he lines them all up, and brings in the first five to lead the group, Antonio, Army, Stealing The Show, Joshua, Just Jack, Good to The Last Drop, Purple Rain   Big Red Dog, Key To The Cure, And there go the first five.

Antonio and Army. What a couple of dogs.  Ed goes to the ring to let everyone else stand back. Only the first five, and ARMY up front, and the crowd loves it, Jeff is ringside.  There they go, and what a crowd. Army, Antonio, Oscar, Josh, and that's the way they go. WOW!

Twenty Selects

Another cut

I am changing my style. I will tell you who he cuts.

He is cutting, and leaves Tasmanian Devil, Shock'n Yal, Orian, Patriot, Broken Arrow, Smoking Gun, Vashion, Achilles, Rossi, Midnight Cowboy, Treasure Isle, Bounty Hunter, Bad Boy, Top Shelf, and that seem to be in the cut group. But I am depending on Cyndy, so I am not sure yet.

Ed takes what I think is the dump group around, and lots of dogs in this group, but lots left too. Ed gives them all a good look and calls out Feature Presentation to look at, checks his notes and tells her to leave the loose lead, and he won't stand so they all go out.  Feature Presentation is a good looking dog, but not today.  Lots of dogs left, it looks like thirty nine. I wonder if they will all go Select.

It is six o'clock and we have a long way to go. I am way too old for this. You better enjoy it. There go the first five.  Ed watches them. And tells them to go to the corner and makes some notes.  Now the next six, and he gives them all a long look, and sends them to the side. Now he wants to talk to the ring steward, and there goes the next five.  Ed looks at them as they pass, and the last one is Here Comes Trouble.

Now the next group of five, and some cheering, but who knows for what?  Still lots of dogs left.  Now another attention of five, and the ring is filling up. Ed seems to watch about a ten foot window in the white wall. And yet another five.   They stop and have a quarter of the wall covered.  Another five with a black in the lead.  Olivia held way back and now she goes, and here goes the last five.  An even division. Now the important cut.

Ed looks good out there and walks away and tells the steward to bring them all around. I think he is going to cut again and now from this side. There they go, and Ed looks at his note, and heads to the front and Ed is pulling his keepers, so far he hasn't passed anyone, and he leaves Pastor Burgos, a Mexican dog, Winter Nights, OH POHH, Midnight Harley, Stormy Night, Diamond Di Vici, Now he starts over and pulls them aout and sends more to keep, Out, Bicardi Gold, Dream Cather, Rossi, Midnight Cowboy, Levithan, and that is one whale of a cut.  Ten in the cut, and they take another pass, the only chance for this year, and there they go, some in there I like, but Ed didn't ask me. Lots of quality at this years National.  Thirty left as they leave the ring.

Can he give thirty Selects, and make Nancy Nellis faint?

Dog Specials before the cut

Before the males come in, I am going to say something to everyone. I love to watch Ed judge, and I love the results. I will vote for him to do the National every year. A few months ago, Libby told me that this would be Ed's last National. I sure hope not. I think he looks as sharp and as strong as ever, and clearly he has the knowledge and ability to do a great job. There will be people who bitch about the number of Selects. But those won't be the people who show dogs. Seventeen  of them in the bitch class are happy, and those behind would have liked more Selects.  I am ready for Ed to do males and then come back in four years.

Ed is back and we are ready to go.

PAULA WON THE RAFFLE, OVER EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS.

HERE COMES THE DOGS.

Now that I know what is going on, I will probably only type in who goes out. I don't have the strength to keep on typing the ones that stay. Bob is checking them in and Ed is following them. Peggy Douglas came by to chat. She said that they fixed Edi's hip and then she fell again. I will try to find out what is going on. Cappy Pottle came by for a minute too.

It looks like it might be a smaller entry in dogs, and Ed is almost to the end, Bob has finished.

Ed has disappeared and I don't think he likes this. It is not easy, but someone has to do it. I know Cindy offered, and if Ed doesn't show up, I will ask her to fill in. It takes sharp eyes and the ability to know the alphabet, so not anyone can do it.

Joey Perez just walked by and I see lots of bibs in the ring. I see Army, and he is easy to spot. What a handsome dog.  Ed still hasn't shown up. I see Joan Fox, and every handler is in the ring.

Ed looks them over and walks to the center looking over the class.  Bob is checking them into groups and I called for Cindy Davis to spot for me.  Ed goes over to the table and grabs a tissue, and now walks again to the center. He looks relaxed and has his hands in his pockets, hitches up his pants and walks to the front of the line.

Tracy Radigan just asked me if there ever has been a Mother Daughter Select? I don't think so, but this year we have two Happy bitches.

Out go the masses.  Six left for the first group.  Good to The Last Drop, Tasmanian Devil, Big Red Dog, Key To The Cure, Shock'n Ya'll, and Antonio.  That is a great group. I don't think I should comment on the dogs, but there goes Antonio. He already has a Select and of course was the Canadian Grand Victor.  I co-own his sire, Patriot.

There goes the class and past the white wall.   Everyone is wondering if he will do the same thing with dogs. We don't know. Ed likes the Big Red Dog.

Good to The Last Drop with Nick. Ed gives him some direction and there he goes.  Handsomd dog with a lot of enthusiasum.

Tasmanian Devil, a nice looking Bi.  Nick and Ed speak about something, maybe world problems, and he takes a pass.

Big Red Dog is up with Patty.  Now that is what a Shepherd should look like.  What a masculine animal.  He is owned by Karen Wagner.

Key To The Cure.  A standard dog, and fully mature, and alert looking dog.  Fine on the temperament test and the individual, and down and back.

Shock'N Ya'll, and that dog poses like he has done this before.  She takes him down and tries three times and then gets it right, and one time back.  Ed makes some notes and talks to the handler.
...
TR's Antonio...not quite as big as the dogs before him in the group...this the last dog in the group..Ed moves the group together and out they go

Melanas Orion, Unconditional Surrender, Smoking Gun, Patriot, (a Big Ben son), Broken Arrow, Tropicana's Rico...is next in the second group.  Hoodlum isn't here.

Orion takes his turn, and makes a good pass.

Unconditional Surrender and he is a substantial dog, and makes a nice picture.

Ed is back so life is good. I have gotten used to him. This must be how Bill feels.

Smoking Gun with Tiffany, a very dark Bi. Tiffany is all in glitter. Do I sound like Dania?

Sue Casey is here and talking to some fo the people. Dania came up for a minute and left before we could talk. I think she saw Flower Boy and was relieved to be left out of this Blogging. It is a lot of work, and a lot of fun.

Avonlea's Patriot.  Gayle Taylor bought him from us and has done a nice job with him. I held him as a puppy, so I have to say I like him.

Broken Arrow.  And he is stacked and looks like Patriot stuff, with some extra leg. I like that look. He gets his turn over by the white wall.

Tropicana's Rico.  A dark Black and Tan with Morris. He stand for the temperament test, and wants to get a pet from Ed.  He doesn't want to stack and is fine now. Morris tells the double handler to get to work.  And the crowd is starting to come alive. I saw Joey Perez for a minute, and will find him again later.  There goes Morris, and he shouts to the double handler, and the dog reacts and is looking outside giving him a hard time, but makes a great pass down the wall.

That is the second group, and they take a pass, and again, Ed is watching them only against the wall, so they have time to get them moving, and they go out.

The next group includes Pastor Burgos, Stetson, Cargogh, Phamton of The Opera, Summer Premier and  Brazos ,  to end the group.

Pastor Burgos is there, and very dark black and tan and has the Look of Eagles, and takes a pass.

Stetson, and standard looking but good mature male.  This is what a German shepherd should look like. He is way alert and I like that look.  He wants to run, and that is a very nice pass.

Cargogh was a favorite of mine a few years ago. He is with Greg, and an older but good looking dog.  Very dark, and knows what he is doing in there. But then again, so does Greg.  Some instructions and there he goes. The crowd does like him and he hits the wall, and yes, he still has it.

Phamtom Of the Opera and this does not seem his day, and maybe he is being over doubled. But, now he is just fine.

Summer Premier is there with Jeff Pyle. The dog is out of order in the catalog, but look just fine anyway.  Stands like a pro, and another real dark and handsome dog.  Jeff takes him slow and then backs up, starts again, and there he goes on a long loose lead, and when he gets going he can cover the ground.

Brazos with Nancy Godek, (I know that isn't her name, but it is her call name).  This dog always interested me as he was so dark, but still very espressive.  He used to have great attitude and seems to still have it.

That does it for this group and Ed turns his back to make some notes and they head over to pass the wall and they are a bit out from the wall. Without the cones they would be cutting the ring.  It is getting late in the day for all of us, and it is only three. Out they go.

Now another group comes in.  Firestorm, Rambling Man, Gold Sky, Winter Knights, (one of our breeding), Here Comes Trouble, Traveler, for the class.

Firestorm takes the ring. Down and Back and that is a happy dog.  He takes his lap, dreaming of going Grand Victor. Why not?  He hugs the wall.

Rambling Man is up with Trish.  A Honky Tonk son.  He stands like he might have done this before.  Things are quiet now, everyone seems to have figured out that he is not going to place them before he does his cuts. I love that proceedure.  There he goes, and Trish starts him out at a full lead, and hits the wall at full tilt, and the dogs doesn't take a bad step.

Gold Sky with Bill Tank.  Stacks just fine and now for the pass.  And Bill does a good dog.

Winter Nights, with Cindy.  A Tiquila Sunrise son, she was a Ben daughter, and I always liked him.  His owner Lori Stewart is one of the nicest people you can ever meet.

Here Comes Trouble, an older dog and fully mature. He is one good looking fellow. He stands in a pose for Ed, and Ed turns his back on us to stare at the wall. The crowd likes him and so do I. He hits the wall at a full trot and that is a keeper

Traveler is the last in this group. A very dark Bi with Al Martin. The dog can still put them down, and makes a great picture against the white wall.

That is it for this group, and no one is going to go out yet, and they take one pass and go over into the rest area. Ed didn't seem to make many notes this time.

Now comes the group I wanted to see.  We have Maximus,Army of One, Midnight Harley, Sirkobrass, Vinnie The Viper, and The Real Deal.

Maximus is out there, and he sure can produce. He is a nice combination of style and movement.
He is popular and you can see why when he hits the wall. He should stay in for a while.

Rinke and Jeff Mobeus are in front of us, and Jimmy just stopped by.

Army has his turn. I do like the style on that dog.  He takes a pass, and he is on today.

Midnight Harley, a very dark dog, and stands in a great pose. I have the best seat in the house. Down and Back, and I am tired of this stuff. I am ready for a party. Diane does a geat job with him, and I like his enthusium.

Sirkobrass is standing for the individual. No real temperament problems that I have seen. We may be improving that.  There he goes and against eh wal makes a quality picture.

Vinnie The Viper is up with Scott.  Ed takes a note, and has him stand, and now a trip around. Scott lets him out before the wall, and NOW THAT IS A DOG THAT CAN MOVE.

The Real Deal with Sergeo.  Sergeo showed last year's Grand Victrix.  He wants his Grand Victor. This dog has done a lot of winning.  This is the end of the group.  Sergeo gives direction to the double handler and she takes off, and so does he. Nice smooth dog. I like him. Ed looks over the group and says, "one more time" and off they all go, with Art holding back to get some room for Army.  Army wants Jeff, and Jeff moves well when he needs to.

Ed takes a break, and we won't ask why. His style of judging is fun but holds the excitement for the end.

In the ring comes Stormy Night, Purple Rain, Padala's Vashon, Achilles, Stealing The Show, and Diamond Da Vinci in the ring. Ed is back, so here we go.  A trip around for the group, and Ed watches them against the wall and to me the last one moves like I would want. But, I am not judging.

Stormy Night sets up, and dark masculine shepherd. Ed tells him to set up. Down and Back and stand free, and a trip around.

Purple Rain with the handler taking him down and back pulling all the way. He is what a realy good shepherd should look like. With the handler formally known as Alex.  The crowd seems to want some excitement.

Padala's Vashon, doesn't want to stack and now he stands just fine.  A black sable, and I like his style.  He is fired up and looks ready to go.  He takes him pass but not in front of the handler.  Not as easy to see.

Achilles.  No problems with temperament, and now stacks. I like the short coupling on this dog.  There he goes with a long lead and he is working and when he hits the wall, looks great.

Stealing the Show with Mike.  I wanted to see this dog, as I have heard a lot about him.  I like the general style, but want to see the movement.  OK, I do like that. What a package.

Diamond Da Vinci, and I think this is the last dog in that group.  There is another dog with great sidegait.  Looks great at a full lead.

Around one time and out they go.  Ed makes some notes and there they go.

Next group, in order, Daytona, Dream Catcher, Treasure Isle, Rossi, Midnight Cowboy Lights Out.  I doubt Ed would go with two blacks but who knows.

Daytona, a Hoodlum son. There are a lot of good looking males here and this one looks good.  Laurie is handling him and Ed did the breeding, and there he goes. Lots of support, and is a strong worker.

Dream Catcher with Bill Basu, the handler of our Grand Victrix.  What a man. Bill was sore after Bitches but looks fresh now.  The dog looks ready to go, and knows what a star he has on the other end of the lead, and hits the wall at full stride.

Treasure Isle, with a young handler. A good looking Bi. We are still going and it is about four, and people are worried about the WDA hearing tomorrow.  We may still be judging. I told Tedi to sell our dinner tickets.  The Bi takes a real good pass, and is a good worker.

Rossi, another of the dark dogs. That is one of my favorite handlers Amy. She is Sharon Allbright's granddaughter, and has been coming to the shows since she was a pre-teen. Now she is a wonderful young lady.  And, a great handler.  It's good she is so good, that dog can flat out move.

Midnight Cowboy. The second Back in the group. Maybe they knew something about Ed, as he gave a black Grand Victrix.  I love a good conspiracy.   Nice picture against the white wall.

Lights Out another black. I have watched this dog since he was a puppy.  I always thought he was going to be a good one, and he did turn out that way.  I think Linda Bankhead finished that dog, and she likes him too.  The white wall is great for all of them.  Yes, that is a good one.

How strange to have two blacks in a row, but they show well. There goes the group. I am amazed that Ed can keep on going.  I am tired and all I am doing is listening to Ed.

There goes Kathy Tank, so Ken can't be far behind.

First in comes Nicaragua, Miracle In The Making, Badboy, Just Jack, Crusader, Leviathan, and last is Joshua. Some big name dogs in this group. Ed forgot to look at the last dog, some times you don't want to leave a full ring between the dog in front of you. Ed then did see him

Nicaragua is a good looking dog and young. He just finished and looks like he is just going to improve.  What a handsome and good looking dog. Ed even likes him.  Leslie is showing hiim and she pulls the lead and there he goes at a full lead even behind Ed, and when he hits the wall a great stride at a loose lead. The crowd and I like that dog.

Miracle In The Making, and Alvin son.  I think this was a Canadian Select Dog.  Big masculine dog, and very alert and egear. That dog can move and has great breed type.

Badboy is up next. I remember talking to Bob Scholes about this dog. He is a mostly black, maybe a bi, but not for sure, in my mind.  Malissa has him and takes her time. She is a good handler, and a fine young lady.  She yells at the double handler, and she is having trouble getting to dog to go down and back so Ed sends her in another direction. Some times you don't want someone to double your dog. There she goes, and the dog is too excited right now.

Just Jack with Geogie.  Dan Smith has done some good winning with this dog.  Nice type and proportions on this dog.  Fine looking dog.

Crusader.  A Dallas son with Olivia. A red and back dog.  This one looks like a dog, and is what the standard calls for a German shepherd looks like.  A strong steady mover.

Leviathan with Ken Tank. I know how much they love this dog. He lives with them.  He does not like the testicle test, but Ed got it done.  This always has been a strong willed dog. And he is well conditioned and hits the wall with gusto. He looks great, and Ed marks down something in his boo.

Joshua with Lenny is last in the group. More of that Down and Back crap. I say, just move them and to hell with the rest.  Now you know why you have never asked me to judge a National.  Lenny gives him the whole lead and the dog takes it and moves like they should.

Ed looks at them stacked, and yells, "hey" and gestures, take them around. There they go. And out to rest for a while. The dogs need it too.

Another group with, Bicardi Gold, nice sable dog, good mover

Man in Black, ..this is the sire of the Grand Victrix, the crowd likes him..black is beautiful

Top Shelf,...big solid black and tan male shown by Ben Bigornia
Feature Presentation, Carribian Stud, Chablis Santana, Machu Picchu, the winner's dog.   There they go for the first run.

Feature Presentation and good standard dog, and Christina takes the dog around. I like the way she handles. He has the energy and hugs the wall, and has too much doubling going on. Ed makes notes.

Carribian Stud.  He just finished, and is a move-up Evidently he doesn't know not to crap in front of the judge yet.  That is a nice looking dog, with perfect proportions.  He is over doubled again like so many others.   Nice picture against the wall.

Satana, the veteran. A black sable, and Ed is blocking my view. I may have to go down and talk to him.  I can't believe he is the Veteran, he moves like a young dog,
and is working his heart out.

ED LEFT AND CYNDY HAS TAKEN OVER.

Machu Picchu, the Winner's Dog.  A good looking dog. Winner's Dog out of Novice.  OK, AKC, go ahead a drop the Novice Class. We will work around it.  He isn't finished yet, and in the Specials Class in the National. How Cool is that?  He is working now, but needs to get out front.  Mike Reed needs to let the dog get out more.

There they go, one last trip before they get cut.  Ed gives them a good look, and a real variety.

In they all come, and now the judging begins. That is a lot dogs. Lots and lots of dogs.  A whole ring full of dogs.  Now there are 54.

.

WDS tracking

15 trial dogs tracked this morning. 12 passed. Sadly, Helen and I were not in the happy 12. We have both been working on this phase, and trying to prepare for the conditions, but today it was not to be. The conditions were very good - a clean plowed field -although it was very dry due to all
the wind we have had. My dog's major problem was that all 5 legs crossed the diagonal furrows. Well, that's not entirely true. Her major problem really is that she is a hard headed bitch. *g* (Not complaining, I love that she is hard headed.)

Wayne Curry got a 99 with a beautiful track. Lori Cruiser got a 100 (!!!) and did a letter perfect job. Jennifer Corso got a 96 with a very nice bitch named Afra. I expect that these three will be in the running for the big awards.

We practice again tonight after specials (will it be midnight?) and the we do our obedience and protection tomorrow morning at 8. Will report in after that.

Legato German Shepherds

Before the Dogs in Specials, in the begging

They are doing Juniors now, and I know I should be announcing it to the Blog. These kids are the future of our breed, but to be honest, I am exhausted and now Ed can tell you how hard this is. I am still soaking wet, and so, maybe next year.

Ed took a break. I went down to congratulate Bill Basu, and he is limping but happy. I also got to go hug Carolyn, how wonderful for them and all their friends. A special congratulation to Doris, and what a great day in California.

Dave Coleman is laying down and his blood pressure and pulse are fine and he seems better. Someone else went by ambulance to the hospital. I haven't heard about Edie, but I understand she is having a hip repaired, and Kent was in the ring and seems fine. It must be great to be young.

So much drama at a National. So many stories, so many dreams, and so much that goes right, and so many things that go wrong. In the end we go home with a happy heart, a love of the breed, and the memories of a great week. Life continues no matter what happens at the dog show, and somehow, it makes it all worth doing again.  A day at the National is better than the other 365 it takes to get back.

I spent some time with Lew and haven't talked to Gary or Patty yet. I tried to talk to Frasonos but they are busy, and I didn't spend enough time with Bob Eaton or Dave Rinke, but maybe tonight. Jane Kerner and Jeff Mobeaus are getting some dogs ready so I am leaving them alone, and I know they will be in the ringside. I did get to sit with Pam Stoessor but not enough. There never is enough time.

I did talk to Bill Burgraff all show, and met his wife and daughter.  I also met his grandaughter, but she didn't talk to me. She is the smartest of them all.

Carmen it still judging and there goes Peggy Douglas.  People seem to be having a good time and lots of laughs and hugs now.

More to come.

Before the last selection

Bob is almost finished checking them in, and down to the lst four. I don't see Ed but I know he is in the building. I see Jeff Mobeaus talking to Lana Lee.  And Bob is talking to Mike Sherman third from last and they are both laughing. And Out goes Bob.  Michael Cheeks came to see us, and Gloria is here and said she did find her camera. Great. I see Kenny Cunningham.  And Ed is in the ring.

He is wearing a gold cap and all black.  He is announcing something.  I can't hear him but people laughed, and is having a good time.  He looking at his notes and walks to the front.

He pulls out Double Trouble, Worth, Magarita Rose, Angelina, and Start the Commotion, Happysaysitall, Seen Nothing Yet, Desbearate House Wives, Yawquina, Showoff, Love and Freedom, All About Me, Scherherazade, Blonde Bombshell, Miami, Madison Avenue, Four Star Review, Black Orchid, Angelina, Chablis, Winer Takes It all, Bearis Hilton, China, Finish Line, Better Be Worth It, Point of View, Micky and the rest stand aside, and Ed has all but eight or nine in his first cut. He sends most of them aside, (I assume those are being kept), and yes, the rest leave the ring.

He kept 41 from his first cut. He pulls them all around to the other side, and he looks them over, but takes no notes.  Ed is standing about mid center line and looks at them as they come around, now not just against the white wall, but no more notes, and now he heads to the front.  He stand about mid way again and says put them back against the ring and walks towards the end and says something I can't hear, and now heads towards the front.  Not looking just walking. He points to the first bunch and points to the other side of the ring and, and takes the first group of six and looks at them as they pass the white wall, and makes some notes.  Now the next six.  Art leads that group and Ed give them a look and makes a few, very few notes.   Another Six with Joanne in front, and they line up against the white wall. Not much room left. Ed says, bring them around.  And now he brings the rest of them up and makes room for the next six and there they go. Now another six with Black Orchid in front.  Ed takes no notes on that group, and now, another six. Everyone is getting a good look. Ed seems to have stopped taking any notes, so he just gives them a good look, and another group of six.  Plenty os space and he doesn't take any notes.   That's it.

Ed looks and tells them what he wants and he pointsto the other side and the end and pulls Double Trouble, Worth, Marguerita Rose, Angelina, Comotion, Karadorea, Happyanyouknowit, Happysaysitall, Seen Nothing Yet, Desbearate Housewife, Showoff, Serindipity, Love and Freedom, All About Me, Blonde Bombshell, Miami, Madison Avenue, Star Review, Black Orchid, Dancing Doll, Angelina, Stylistic, Bad to The Bone, Jerwin's Madison Avenut, Deja-Vu, Winner Takes All. China, Finish Line, Better Be Worth it, Lady Liberty, Cherry Crush, and a few I can't see. Tom Brown just came by.

Another pass for seven bitches and Ed looks at his notes and they stop and he pulls out Hallmark and puts her in her regular place and lets the rest go. THEN THERE WERE 34.  Now this is a fun show.

Ed looks them over and tells them something and off they go to this side from the white wall.  He looks at them as they go by the white wall and he says keep going and says Back Against The Wall. Without the last part of that phrase. And he calls out Tom Mesdag and he calls Bob Grady, and Ed gets his book out and makes some notes.  Ed turns away from us and Bob Grady is breaking them into groups, and Ed stands with is back to us, watching the white wall, and there gos a group six.  Now Ed takes the next seven  with Sean in front.  Next group of six, and no notes that I see.  He brings in the next group of six, and Black Orchid is there still looking strong. And Ed looks at each of them, and makes no notes, and calls for another group, and only four in that group.  And they line up again, and now another group of seven.  Almost done but I think, and yes, they are now set up with Patty in the front. No placings and Ed walks down the line and keeps on walking and looking fast at each bitch and stops about half way and now continues at a fair pace, and looks at each one and is 3/4 of the way and stops at Miami to make a note, and looks at his notes and now continues on down and looks at them all, and say something to them at the end.  And now walks to the front.

He is at the front and goes up to Patty and gies some instruction and pulls Double Trouble, Worth, Margarita Rose, Start the Commotion, Angelina, Happyand you know it, Happysaysitall, Showoff, Serindipity, Blonde Bombshell, MegaMillion, Star Review, Dancing Doll, Black Orchid, Jerwin's Madison Avenue, Desbearate Housewives, China, and others.

He takes around nine together and off they go for dreams of 2008.

Now there are twenty eight. Flower Boy is counting, so don't blame me if the math doesn't work, and they line up again. Still no placing, but cuts.  Not like last year, everyone gets another look.  This is a fun way to watch, and out come the ring stewards and off go the first six. Against the white wall.  Another group, this time six again, and Ed isn't taking notes now.  Six more, and now the crowd is starting to come alive, and Blonde Bombshell is there and Black Orchid still looks great at the end of that group. Now six more, and China looks good in there.  And now three more. Cherry Crush, the Winner's Bitch looks good. Now down to the good stuff.

Ed looks at his notes, and Double Trouble, Worth, Marguereta Rose, Angelina, Start The Cmotion, Happysays it all, Happysays itall, Showoff, All About Me, Seen Nothing yet, Star Review, Dancing Doll, Jerwyns Madison Avenue, China, Cherry Crush, Black Orchid, De Ja Vu, and three take a break.

Now there are twenty four. Ed looks them over and still no placings and tells them to take a pass, and turns towards the wall.  Now in groups of six again. No more notes, and half of these will be there at the end, and half or more, not. Next group of six. What a fun way to watch, starting with Happy and her daughter Happy.  Next group with Blonde Blombshell, and Black Orchid, still working and the next group, with Jerwin's Madison Avenue and China looking good with Lenny and Cherry Crush with Miks, and now they stop.

Double Trouble, Casara's Worth, Margarita Rose, Angelina, Comotion, Happyanyou know it, Happys Says it all, Show Time, Blonde Bombshell, Signature Miami, Star Review, Black Orchid, Dancing Doll, De Je Vu, China, Cherry Crush and Miranda. Now there are Twenty Two.  He let two go.

Ed looks at them over against the wall and walks down the ring and looks at them, no notes just looking at each bitch from the end to the front now. And he heads to the middle of them, and the tension is growing and Ed stand in the middle.

He goes to the front and look at them and gives instructions and they all wak to the other side of the ring.  Now he is making his book. No one is running when they can walk. Ed gives instructions and there goes the yelling to the handlers, and there go another six.  Six is the magic number and there goes the two Happy bitches in first and second, What a group that is, and some are starting to get tired, and Blonde Bombshell didn't have her best pass. Black Orchid looks fresh, and there goes the last group.

Dreams yet in the minds of owners, the last group has the winner's bitch and Ed looks them over.

He spreads them out and looks at them on the other side now. And it is going to be harder to get numbers, thank God I have ed here.  He walks down the line and stops at the two Happy bitches.
He pulls, Double Trouble, THIS IS THE BIG CUT.  NO.   Now Worth, Margarita Rose Angilina comotion Cazadora, Happy and Happy, Show Time,All About me.  Nevermind, he cuts one. De Ja Vu.

Now there are twenty one.  Just think, you can say you made the first six cuts.  He is talking to stewards and the ring and divides them up again, into groups. There go the first group of seven.  Ed stands with his hands in his pockets, and calls for the next group of seven. Progress.  Next group seven again. And Black Orchid and Winner's Bitch both look good.

Ed goes up to the front and no placings, just cuts, and he goes towards the end and looks them over and now he stands back and walks back to the front.  Blonde Bombshell is stacked back for some reason.  He looks them over and looks at his book and says, bring them around. The handlers being smart, walk.

They stack, Ed looks, we eat, and the crowd holds its breath. Ed looks over the 21 bitches and gives an instruction and again, groups of seven again, past the white wall.  The bitches all look like they have run enough. The next group with Happy and Happy and Blonde Bombshell looking better. Both Happys look good, and there goes the last group, and Black Orchid leading. China looks fresh and strong.

Ed walks up to the front and not looking at anyone, ut approaches them and pulls double trouble, rosita Rose, Commotion, Kardosa, Happyanyouknowit, Happysaysit all, Blonde Bombshell, Black Orchid, Star Review, Danciing Doll. Sherwins Madison Avenue, All About Me, Signaturie Miami,

Cherry Crush, Heiress, and four go out. Four left the building and seventeen left.

Ed said they were all going Select, and the crowd loves it.  SEVENTEEN Great for him.  What a wonderful thing to do for the breed.

Specials Bitches Saturday First cut

I finally learned who the Junior is that I so admired. Her name is Ashley Miller, and what talent. I know she is going to be one of our top handlers soon, if not already.  I could watch her all day.

OPENING CEREMONIES.

Obedience winners, and lots of applause for them all. The crowd is filing in, and what tension in the air.  Lorie Nickerson also with the highest scoring champion The Shadow Knows.  I didn't get the rest, but all good looking dogs. What dedication, I did see Cason, who is a great worker, with Julie Degon, who we all know.

Bob Dresher does such a great job working the crowd, and they all get a hand.  March music and there goes Don Knight, and I see Libby is here. Linda Bankhead walks by with a bib on and there goes Liz Leshhorn, and what another great job she did on the Red Book.  Kathy Potter is there and They look ready at the end of the ring. I recognize the handlers, and Bill Basu has his bib on now, and some blank stares in the room. Lots of movement but no one in the ring yet. I see Leslie and Jack and they are at the other end, so I can't see everyone yet, but people are coming in.

Now Lew and Erin and Nancy Godec McDonald enter the ring. IN COME ALL THE JUNIORS. Fourteen in there stacking dogs, and each get introdruced.  Robert Hamilton, Ashlye Miller, 16, Malissa Chevez 17, Ronnie Dollar 17, Zane Brooks 17, Elizabeth Stiefelman 17, Danelle Stalson 16, Tessa Ferrell 16, Loressa Lee 15, Shannon Wise 14, Justin Dollar 11, Logan Sheperd 10, Blake Erish 9, Mariea Oster 8.  What a great sight, and that has to bring mist to your eyes, and there they go, and lots of applause and music to take them around.  AND another pass, where is taht energy coming from?  They each take two laps and that is what is all about.

Ben Bignorea is there to hug each of them and a lot of high fives and now it quiets down, and some tension. In come the Bitch Specials.

SHOW TIME!

Ed wants to say he is not responsible for what I say on the post, and he is only sitting next to me to keep me in line.  Good luck with that.

Sally Hayden came by and there goes Ann Schultz, and Barbara and Jamie Ross gave us a big wave.  Bob Moore is here.  Jeff Mobeus is here talking to Flower Boy, and I see Sue Wylie is here too.  Ray Johnson is here, and I see Mary Lou Neton.  Ed is in the ring and Ann Thompson is walking outside with a bright jacket.

AND THERE THEY GO WITH THE FIRST BITCH.

In the ring is Patty, then Worth, and they file in and Ed is marking them off. Jamie Walker walked by and they are all coming in now. I see Art, Sean, The Guz, Al Martin, Ken Tank, Diane, george, Linda, KENT IS IN THE RING, Jack, Bill oh what the hell, they are all in there. Bill Basu has Black Orhid.  The days are getting longer for some of the handler. Leslie has her bitch, Alex is there Tiffany and Joann both in there, and Christine Chrity, and a lot of the juniors, Lennie Brown, Brad Sipp is in there now, but I doubt he is staying.  And a whole bunch more. Just getting marked in, and the stands are starting to fill. Bob Grady is out there in a white suit.

Bob is having Bart and Gary announce the friends we have lost this year. Always a hard time for me. They move to center ring, a ring full of bitches.  I usually leave the ring at this time, but am going to try to stay for the Blog. It is quiet and Bart is talking about the turmoil of today and this year, and what they would do with this situation.  I won't name them, and Gary hits the bell for each name. I can't take that, and won't stay for it again.

Ed is at the end of the group, they fill the ring. There goes Tisk Walker, and also Dave Rinke and Bob Eaton are here. We count 58 bitches in the ring now.  They are starting to break them up and Bob Grady and Tom Mesdag are going down the class and making groups.   Carl Radsivitch is here and sits down. Bob is giving them directions and here is Betty Radsivitch.  Norma is here and taling to Dave Rinke. Frank Fasano is sitting with that group. Morris Berteluche is in second for now.  Waht a thrill that must be for him.  (That is sarcasm).  Art Sinclair is talking Tracy Radigan and Dave and Jan Coleman.  Art has Start The Comotion.  They seem to be all leaving, but when the dust settles, there will be the first group left.

Yes, six left.  Patty Breau with Double Trouble Morris with Worth, then Lorie with Margareta Rose, Scottie with Angelina, Lenny with Hallmark and Trish Wylie with Diva.  And, Ed comes to the center.

There goes the first trip with Ed in the center with a notebook, and they hug the white wall, a first group of six. They stop in front of me, and some tense handlers in there.  Ed comes over here and says; Set them up" and they do, he walks down the line and says, "Give me a lap and stop right here." And he turen his back and look at th white wall and they move behind him and as they turn, he watches them against the white wall. Ed only looks at them on that side.  Alycia is here with her brace.  We all miss Scott Partel, but we settle for Alycia.

First individual is Double Trouble.  A good standard looking bitch and down and back she goes. Terrie Kreidler goes by. Ed tell patty to take her around and again he turns his back to watch the white wall.  Patty takes her back to start over and takes a good pass on a loose lead.

Now Morris with Worth, and Edo goes to talk to Bob Grady. I see the Kishs just went by, with a big smile on both of them.  And they take their seats.  There Loren to talk to Scott. I love her jacket, maybe she would sell it to me.  The individual is going on, and Ed says down and back. The room is full, and all the seats are taken.  Ed directs him around and ther he goes, and walks first

Next we have Abby with Margarita Rose. I always have enjoyed Abby's handling.  Very pretty girl, (Ed said that), and a very typy and feminine bitch.  And Ed turns, and off she goes.  The crowd is still waking up.  Good working bitch.

Scott has Angelina, and a nice Black and Tan.  Scott stands her with one leg up, a pointer, and now he stacks her. Gary Szymzyk and Patty also walks by.  Angelina likes the individuals and is looking for someone. Norma is talking.  That's a keeper.  What great sidegait.

Mike Reed is there with Azeri of Hallmark.  A dark Black and Tan.  She is a half German Bitch and the color indicates that. Sergio and Lennie Brown are here and Sergeo sits next to me.  Suzie Whitmore came by to talk to Bob.  Diva is there with Trish Wyle.  Her dad got elected and so we are all well served. She is the last one in the first group, and a nice dark bitch and she is another nice bitch.. He's moving the first group now..aroend they go......out they go...second group will be coming in, (this by Ed).

Now back to me.  Ed brings in cones and puts them around the corners.  Now the next group.

Art Sinclair with Start the Commotion, then Sean with Cazadora, next is Laura with Happyanyou knowit.   Then is someone I can't get with Carousel Farms Caison, Al Megamillion and then Tim Trap with  Wow of Ritarra.  And they take a pass.  Happy is looking good.

Ed Calls Art out there.  Lamar is here and talking about lynching.  There goes Art.  She always was a nice bitch.

Cazadora is up there now. She has lots of type and style.  She hugs the wall and makes a good image that way.

Ed marks his notebook and now Happy with Laurie.  The crowd might get behind her. Right now it is quiet. Posed that is great bitch standing, and not bad in motion.  Sue Godek is here.  Yes the crowd is behind her.  Laurie takes her slow, and you couldn't ask for more. Nancy Nellis is here and had been everywhere all week. What a great job she does.

Julie Degan is in there with Caisson MX, Julie is as calm as she looks, and the bitch is ready to go. Ed give her direction and off she goes with her ponytail bouncing. And nice and steady against the white wall.

Al Martin with Megamillion.  She stands her ground and Ed does the temperament test, and now she is posed and looks for someone.  Very attractive bitch, but who would want to follow Happy?   Carrolyn Martello is here now, and so is Oak Smith. Karen Avery just got here. And there goes Megamillion.  Tim Trap is next with Ponca Hills Rittarra, another pretty bitch Ed checks her out,, around the ring she goes..last bitchn in this second group..Ed moves the whole group around the ring and out they go....Third group is next First bitch is with Guzman and the wrong number.

I don't know who The Guz has, (it's Happysaysitall)  and Joanne has Nuthin Yet, then Cristy with Desperate Housewives , then Eric with Lady Liberty, (a Ben daughter), and last is Ken Tank with Showoff, the Ghegleri's bitch, a Patriot daughter, so Tedi and I have ties to two of them, so I want them each to win it all.  It is all about me. Pam Stoesser is here.

Now Joanne is going down and back You Ain't Seen Nuthen Yet.  And she waves to someone, and Ed turns his back and there she goes, and she hits the white world and the bitch needs to wake up.  I see Bob Ghegleri, and he is watching his bitch.

Despbearate Housewife, and she sure is a pretty bitch, very dark and very typie.  There goes Lew again, he has not stopped all show. A great image for our club.   She takes her first pass.

Now Lady Liberty.  Ed is talking to Eric and says to set her up.  She is a favorite of mine but I haven't seen her in a least a year. She is not happy out there, and Eric is talking to Ed and Ed goes over her. And Eric is laughing and I don't think he is happy.  Helen Franklin is here and wearing 22 championship pins.   There she goes and she still looks good and can move.

Julie with Yaquina.  I just heard from Helen that the Frasano's party was fun.  That is one of the nicest things done at the national, and they do it every year.  Bill Burgraff said he went and loved it. Cappy is here taking to Norma.

Now Ken with Showoff.  I won't describe her, you need to see her in person. She passes the temperament test and stacks.  She is picture perfect if you like a dark black and tan. She looks a bit young, and needs to mature to be everything I want. Ed turns his back, how rude, and the crowd likes her. She can be on or off, and today she's on.

Now Ed stands back and tells them, one time around.  He doesn't move anyone, and tells them to take them out.  And, in comes the next group.

Linda is first with Serendipity and second is Greg, then Feeling Lucky , All About me, with Liz, then Bound For Glory, and last is Schehirazade.  They take a lap, and there goes Leslie out side the ring. There Joey, and also Bil Leonard is here.

Linda is out there and she and Ed are laughing.  She stacks Serendipity, and she stands perfectly but wants to play down and back. And Linda loses her and she jumps out of the ring and Loren catches her in the air.  She jumps back in the ring and Loren goes in and out too. Now down and back. A good example of double handling, too much. But she is a happy bitch and Linda takes a minute to adjust the lead and the crowd likes this one too. She head to the wall and there she is agains the while. Great sidegait, and smooth as can be.

Loving Freedom is there now with Greg.  I Dania is here and I haven't told her yet she is replaced by Flower Boy, but she is much better looking. Norma is talking to the crowd, and donw and back goes Greg.  She is a sable, and nicely pigmented.  Another crowd favorite. Gloria is here looking for her Nikon.

Feeling Lucky is standing like a rock and now posed.  There she goes and Libby is talking to Leslie. Dan and Marily Smith are going by.  There goes Twyla again.

Liz Osler is there with All About Me.  A very pretty and standard looking bitch stands like a rock and I love the body type.  She looks like she can move from down and back and Ed turns, and waits and Liz takes off. YES she can move.

Bound For Glory a very dark black and tan, maybe a Bi.   The general opinion here is a Black and Tan.  Leslie said to tall Kay hello, so I do as I am told. ...Scherazade is the next bitch with a handler I do not know...she is the last bitch in this group...around she goes.Ed is marking his book...instructs the group to go around one time and out there they go.

Group five is next..Berslter leads this group with Blond Bomb shell next Miami with Diane Brown...then Madison Ave with Olivia...Kent is in the ring withHeiress Ed is going over Bombshell nice dark sable bitch! That Ed.   First is George and he goes around, and next is Diane with Signiature.  She is a good looking bitch.  (Ed has this thing centering text and I have no idea how to stop it. So, I will keep on keeping on).   She takes a pass and she is smooth and very nice. I think she will stay in.

Now we have Oivia Madison Avenue, and she has always been a top quality bitch.  I see Dania with Nancy Ellis and Joan Fox and they look serious.  There Madison Avenue goes, I think she has already been Select and Canadian Grand Victrix.

Now Kent with Heiress.  Everyone is holding their breath, and Kent look fine.  I think we will be watching Kent, not the bitch. But you have to look at that bitch, she is so pretty.  Ed showed me how to uncenter the type and so back to what passes as normal for me.  There goes Ken and his bitch and they both move as if there is not problem.

Now Ella Fritzgerald.  I see Fred Migliore talking to Bob Eaton. This is the next to last bitch in the fifth group, and with a good handler whose name escapes me. The crowd likes her and she hits the white wall and makes nice pass.

Now Wings of Gold, with Jodie Blanger.  Norma is talking to Morris.  I see Pam O'Dell is here now, and watching. Ed tells them one lap and on to the next. They actually take a lap from this end and so it is two trips.  But they only have to look good for one pass, against the wall. Ed doesn't even glance at them other than that.

Ed is making a lot of notes and is writing in his book.  We need to get that book and publish it.

In comes group number six. Jack with Star Review, next is Bill Basu with Black Orchid, WOW, now is a good one,  Zukerdok, then Jeff Pyle with Dancing Doll, then Hells Angel, with a Junior and Sergeo with Sunny Side Up.  This is the last normal class then move-ups etc. they take a lossen up pass and Black Orchid is on.

Ed point to Ed and Star Review stands in a pose and Ed streachs his leg, and looks her over as she stacks. She stands and Jack gathers his lead and takes her down and back.  Here comes Cindy Davis.

Bill Basu with Black Orchid.  She does put on a show.

Now the Zuker Doc with a Junior. He handles like Jimmy used to, and almost does today.  She stands on the line and Ed does test what he needs to, and he takes a pass.

Dancing Doll with Jeff. There goes Ben Bigornia. Dancing Doll is a good looking bitch a great size and a Black and Tan, and Down and Back.  Jeff gestures for his double handler, and there he goes.  A full loose lead and a good pass.

Another Junior with Hells Angel. I like the name.    Ed says all the handlers are pretty except Bill Basu.  She stacks her with grace and she is a substantial bitch but a nice one too.  I see Jenn Root.
Norma is walking by and not talking to anyone.  That bitch is not easy to handle but she does a nice job.

Sergeo with Sunny Side Up. She is a Brando daughter, and very dark. I have always liked this bitch and she can move she is owned by a great person, Clare Drosdick.  She and Ed are here and I met him on Wednesday.  There she goes.  Sergeo does a good job with her.

ED NOW
There they go for the last trip.
7th group Leslie has Angelina to lead this group..Ed marks his book as they go around the first time as a group...Angelina up for her individual with Leslie...around she goes...next Giorgiana with a handler I do not know..Stylistic is next with Alex..the best looking male handler in this sport...no I am not Gay, very nice looking bitch, around they go...the croud loves her...next Cindy with Bad to the Bone...the nest bith Jerrwns Madison Ave with Jergin's wife, forgot her name..Lorin I think...around they go, Basu is interrupting..next is Deja Vu with a pretty unkown handler, the last of the group..Ed marks his book tells them to go around one time and out.

Evan back

I got to talk to Lew. He is holding up, but feels the stress.  I congratulated him on all he has done and all he is doing.  Back to the show.

Next group, with Winner Takes All, then China with Lenny without Leslie, Next is League f Her Own, and Hell's Bells, and Cindy with Finish Line, (can you tell there are a bunch of Juniors in here?)  And Ed is back to help me.

First out there is Winner Takes all, with a very good handler who hand stacks her, and she holds a pose.  There she goes and walking and walkng and now she takes off...nest bicth is Bearis Hilto with a pretty handler I don't know Evan to off with two pretty ladies...Lenny Brown is nest with China, and you can't describe how beautiful that bitch is. Not much to say about her, except she could go all the way.  Lennie gathers the lead and takes off, the crowd loves her. He hits the wal, and OH MY GOD!  If I were judging I would give it to her, and then do the rest.

Now League of Her Own, another young handlers.  Ther goes Pam Stoesser and she comes to talk to me. At least she is one talking to me. I got to introduce a young lady to Dave Rinke. She was one I mentored and that is what she wanted to do at this National.

Next up is Hells Bells, with another young handler. Was I ever that young? I don't think so. And what a job she does. She has done this before.

Finally a handler I know Cindy with Finish Line a California bitch.  And she takes her pass....next group..Better Be worth it with Nancy Godak is up to bat Nancy has a new last name but I don't know what it is.Ed is marking his book...Evan is talking to Sheree Moses FB on the keyboard now...Point of View is next handler I don't know...around she goes....Miranda is next with another handler I do not know...no one is sueing me that I know of...Miranda just got loose..she ran out of the ring, but now she's back...wish I could talk to Sheree Moses..geeez Reggie is next with Shasta Fair...I love that kid!..Evan still gabbing with Sheree....women don't ever talk to ...next is Sergio with Beneth my Wings....thats almost x-rated!...Evan let me talk to Sheree Moses...Bittersweet is next with a new young handler from Ca.

Can you tell when it is me and when it is Ed? He is black and I am not.

Nathan is in there with Bittersweet.  Last pass for them all. And out they go.

Bill Tank with Italy, next is a young lady with Sneakers, then Lucy Lu, then Mike with Cherry Crush , Winner's Bitch, (she finished), Silver Charm with Jammie Chute, and last is Cut Above from Veterans.

I got to talk to Cristie and I can't believe she has a two and a half daughter.

There goes High Heal Sneekers and a young handler doing a perfect job. Next is Lucy Lu.   There she goes and looks as good as her namesake.  I like that good.

Next Mike with Cherry Crush.  An Aries daughter.  I see that she is a keeper and against the wal she is a good one.  The crowd knows it.

The place is full now and standing room only. The Veteran Silver Charm with Jammie is there, and everyone seems to be getting ready for the real show. This is the last group and everyone must be here not. Melissa is next with vetern bitch Cut Above. Ed looks over the crowd, and now back to work. Cut Above stacks and seems to want to find her owners but no problem, and down and back.  Last pass of the last group, and the crowd likes her.

There goes the entire class and the tension grows.  We are waiting and holding our breaths. Ed is walking outside the ring, and it looks like a comfort break. Bob Grady is in the center of the ring and looking at his notes and that means he is about to bring in the bitches, and yes, in they come. Dania hasn't shown up yet, so I haven't had to tell her about Ed. It is hard to miss him however, and now it starts.

They are in the ring and Tom Mesdag is checking the placement and so is Bob Grady, two expert ring stewards.  Bob is walking down the line and people are starting to buzz.  Tedi got a hamburger, and that was good timing.  Karen Wagner is sitting with Bob here and laughing. The bitches fill the ring except for about twenty fee.  Ten more and we would not have enough room. Where did all the handlers come from?

OBEDIENCE AND PARADE OF GREATS

I stewarded yesterday in obedience. I can't remember all the details, but
it will be no surprise to most of you that Lori Nickeson got OV and High
scoring champion with Monty. :) I know she placed in both Open and
Utility - don't remember the particulars though.

I worked in the Utility A & B and Open A ring. Just in those classes, I
know there were at least 3 champions competing. It is good to see
champions strutting their stuff in obedience, especially in the upper
classes. Congratulations to those breeders and owners!

Also, the Parade of Greats was a BIG entry this year. It was a proud
moment to see so many highly accomplished German Shepherds in the ring at
one time. I know at least one of them was a Champion and PAM - Julie
Degen's Cassie. Many more performance dogs were represented as well.
Quite impressive. Linda (from my mobile) Legato German Shepherds

Working Dog Sport Competition

Pre- trial report:
This afternoon there was a brief seminar with Wayne Davis. It was very
informative. I won't do it justice, but the take away message is this --
INCLUSION WORKS. What a concept. The AKC really has (imo) the right idea
on this.

After specials practiced in the ring, we had the opportunity to practice
as well. Practice was productive, but kept me up past my bedtime
(especially considering we start at 630 am). There are some really nice
working dogs here. There are also some of us who are less experienced -
or have less experienced dogs. We're all just hoping for the best, and
hoping not to make fools of ourselves.

Will report tomorrow after tracking.

Before the show on Saturday

Evan I love the smell of hair spray in the morning.

I came early to watch the events unfold and the excitement grow. The place in empty except for Twyla, Tedi, Stormy and Illeana.  I hear that the Lister's Party gathered $2,700.00 got rescue.   I am talking to Becky McIlroy and what great hair   I see that Grace is here as is the Famous Linda Battistoni.

I didn't get to the List Party as I went to the Foundation Party instead. It was interesting and I did not know it was mainly a fund raiser. They bid on serviced, (sorry, just handling), but it was fun.e I love what they do for the breed, and it is a great service.  I am talking to Les, and had a few words with Ed, and he is wearing a black shirt with a dark suit.  We sat with Carrie and Oak Smith. Good folks. People are starting to mill in now, and Flower Boy came by to work and I bought food to keep us here.

I loved the "Free For All" last night. They opened the ring, and in came the dogs. I saw Happy looking better than ever, and I couldn't miss Army, who is looking like he can't be beat. I did get to recognize a few others too and the excitement in the air was unbelievable.  There was a Junior's Seminar too in the ring, and all the kids with mentors. Jerry Guzman was working with them and and I counted 31 in there, the future of our breed.

I have some reflections of this National. The motto from Lew is Encourage, not discourage, and that is what I have seen. Lew has worked his heart out as has the rest of the board. They are everywhere encouraging and helping and it is clear he means it.  I do miss the Inclusion and not Exclusion. There is a clear feeling that they are doing it all, and need no help. I got to work at the Judges Education as a Mentor, and of course I am here at the announcer's table Blogging. I am not so sure that I would be preferred to be somewhere else, but no one has said anything to me.  That approach will change with Gail, and I am looking forward to the next year.

I sat next to the table with Jane Kerner, Dave Rinke, Bob Eaton and Pam Stoesser.  Also, Jeff Mobeus was at another table, and so the entire group was there. Bob is here now to announce and Erin Nellis giving directions.  I see Gail Hardcastle, and there goes Christine Spararga, and in bright red.   Bart Bartly is here and talking to Alex.

I had a chance to talk to Pam Stoesser last night and she always is fun. I will make it a point to spend some time with Jane Kerner today, I don't spend enough time in person with her. We post back and forth a lot, but I only see her once a year.  Here is Scootie being pulled by a dog, and Nancy Hubble is in her seat, and so is Channing Sheets.   Linda Bankhead just came by and Joan is talking to Bob and the room is filling. I am starting to feel the tension and my heart is starting to beat and my eyes start to shine as tears build. I love this breed and can't wait to see the best of the best.  Nancy Goodek is here too.

The lights are bright, the dogs are at the end of the ring, Ed is there, the stewards are ready and the bitches go first in catalog order.  I see everyone talking putting on bibbs, and I am sending this to get everyone woken up, and then we go to the dog show.

Best Puppy

Holly from Derry New Hampshire came by and said hello. She wanted to say hello to all those back in New Hampshire and wait for Winter.

There was a man living in New Hampshire on the New Hampshire Main line. They surveyed his property. he came to him and told him he lived in Main, not New Hampshire.

He said: "Thank God, I couldn't take another New Hampshire Winter."

We are waiting for the puppies. I am waiting for Ed. There he is with a sport coat. Now you talk about someone who doesn't age.  There are the four puppies, Jimmy, Lenny, jack and George.  Ed takes them each around.  Jimmy's pup will be hard to beat the 6-9 Puppy dog.  There goes the 9-12 Puppy bitch, and she is nice too.

Ed takes the 6-9 down and back and has him stop and Ed looks hard at the pup. There Jimmy goes, and the crowd is applauding before he gets his stride, and there he goes, and what a star. Also great temperament, just seems happy every minute.

Now the 9-12 puppy dog. Also loves the judge and no problem with the individual. Down and back, and now stands for Ed to look over. Jimmy owns both the male puppies. That is a nice dog, but not as good as the younger one. Lenny brings him back and Jimmy gives the puppy a hug.

The six to nine puppy bitch with Jack. She seems a bit wired, and goes down and back. Kent is walking about without a limp and looks like he could go in the ring now.  Jack takes her around and she seems intent on someone outside the ring, and she is pulling a bit now, and I know Ed wants a loose lead. Oh my, that is a good one if he gets her under control.  I think he will eventually, but the show ends soon.

Now the 9-12 Puppy Dog. Ed has him stand, and now George takes him around.  He adjusts the lead and heads out, with a small skip and that puppy is well trained and has a great period of suspension.  George doesn't like what is going on, and starts over, and is now having problems, and starts again.  A good one, and needs to fire up a bit more.

Now they stand together, and Ed walks up to them.  He is telling them something and off go the four of them.  Jimmy is going slow, and what a puppy.

Ed m,oves Jack in front and then George Jimmy and Jack.  It is eal qiet nowa nd Ed is telling them something and Lenny takes around alone.  With a very loose lead.  Not loose enough for Ed except at the end.  Now George, and I heard Ed, "Get him loose."  And George gives the entire lead, and that's a loose lead, all 12 feet of it.

Now Jimmy, one time Ed says, and the crowd is clear. Yelling shouting, stamping and for good reason. Jimmy used the entire ring, and Ed stops looking.

There goes Jack and the crowd likes that one too.

The line up and he gives it to Tazzman's Aregon the nine to twelve puppy dog. Best Opposite Puppy is Tazzman's Serine the 9-12 Puppy Bitch. Litter mates. How cool it that.

Now to the Foundation party and then the Lister's party after that.

Veteran Dogs

The Veteran Dogs 7-9 are in there, and so is Carmen.  There were seven entered, and seven in the ring. The first is Millenium, always was a good on. Next up is one I don't need to look up, waht a dog, Peter Pan.  Next is Cohosh Chimifuga.  Then Sonic Boom. Chablis, Pilgrem and Y2K Survivor.

Sue Godek is here, and talking to Bob.  I see Maryellen Kish, and there goes Bob Eaton. I didn't see Martha Rinke, I will have to ask if she is here.  Maryann Imhoff is here too, and I want to spend some time talking to her.

Carmen sends them to the other side, so they only take half a lap. That seems like a good idea for the older guys. Ther is no older class in males. There go the Tanks.

Carmen is judging and I am typing.  I admit it, I am no longer interested in the dog show. How sad is that? But, Best Puppy is coming up. There they go, and Carmen is watching them, another half ring. Good for Carmen.

He is wearing his tux and look good doing it.

Now they go, one at a time. Now they take the full ring.  And, there goes the last of the old guys.  I am one of those now too.

And they line up, all seven of them.  Carmen now looks them each in the eyes, and walks down the line and checks each of them.  He starts to place them and the crowd likes him for putting Millennium in front. The first two take a full lap.  Now the next two.  Two at a time and a full lap for each of them.  And the last one, a chance to star.

They stand again and Carmen moves them and leaves Millenium in front.   He now walks the line looking them in the eye again. Just the first three.  Then the last four.  The first one is the only one who seems to have the energy left, but maybe I am mistaken. That is what it looks like to me. Now he looks them in the eye again and walks down the line, but only the first two and he moves Santana in front.  And there they go, and that's it.

First is Ch Todorhaus-chablis Santana, Second is Ch Karizma's Millennium V Scher-Low, CD, Third is Ch Brauhaus-Apfelsine Peter Pan, and fourth is Ch Bloomsberry Sonic Boom.

Brad Sipp and Jenn Arens are both here, not together. What a kick for me. Brad's daughter is with him and used to do such a great job of handling.  Maybe we can get her in the ring, I doubt she weighs fifty pounds soaking wet. What a rotten thing it would be to get her soaking wet, however.

On to the puppies and Best Puppy with Ed Barritt and a chance to see what he is going to wear, at least today.  One more post today.

Veteran Bitches

Everyone is milling about, and no one seems to be happy, but I think it is fatigue.  Gay is walking by and there is Jammy, and I see Nancy Hubble, and Grace is talking to Michelle, two California handlers. And in the ring is Veteran Bitches 7-9.  Eight of them. This says good things about our breed, they look like young bitches.

There they go, the first four. Christy Brinkley in front.  Now the second five with Jimmy in the rear. Bob gives them some direction and points to the corner and now takes them out for the temperament test. He smiles after the first one and he has him stack. Bob looks her over, and checks the mouth and all the rest of that stuff. He skips the testicle test.

Now Mini-Me. I have always liked her, Next is Aria, a local bitch for us, and always one of my favorites.  Next up is Mudslide, a bitch I don't know.  And around one time for her. She is a very pretty sable bitch. Next we have Kahula a dark sable.  Then Venetta. I see Lace of Lou-Ru in there. Last in the class is Evil Ways, a bitch that has always impressed me.  Jimmy brings in Silver Charm, and she is out of order.  A Dallas daughter in Veterans.  Time stands still for no man.

Cindy Davis is with us here on the stand, and the crowd either has fallen asleep or gone home.

Now they line up and Bob is looking them over, and goes down the line and says he wants to see the fist four, and there they go.

He puts Christy Brinkley in front. He moves Silver charm to the front now.  Now they line up as they are, and Bob stands with his hands on his hips and looks them all over. The one with Jimmy is far and beyond what you expect in the Veterans class. She could be in Open Bitches. She has lots of power, and very very pretty, and First is Ch Kaleef's silver charm of Tabu, Second is Ch Acara's Mini-Me, Third is Ch Todorhaus-Chablis Evil Ways and Fourth is Ch Ponca Hill's Christy Brinklyt, HT, TC.

Jane Jeeter came by and got her Duel Award pin, and there goes Leslie, and I see that the Ghegleris are still here. I did see Paula earlier, and I didn't get to talk to Flower Boy yet, so it is still a good day.  There goes Bob VanWinkle.  I see Ben McGovern. Norma Ramey came by to say hello, and Bob is looking for his Reserve. I am wrong again.

He is doing the Veteran Class 9 and over. I could have just deleted it and no one would know how stupid I am, but what fun is there in that?

The first one is Beatrice, then we have Sudden Success, Then Dear Abby, Jamaicame Non Stop, Blue Moon's Runaround Sue, then A Cut Above.

There they go, one at a time. At nine she still has it. Now Sudden Success at ten.  She is real pretty, but now wanting to run much anymore. I know how she feels.

Dear Abby was always a favorite of mine and she looks a bit portly at nine.  So do many of us. In dog years.

KENT IS HERE AND STANDING AND IT SEEMS HE PULLED A MUSCLE, BUT NOT RIPPED IT.  I doubt he will show this weekend

Jamaicame Non Stop is here at ten, and she looks like she want to show all day.  All six who entered showed up in the 9 and over class.  She has lots of energy. More than me.

Now A Cut Above. I remember watching her in Specials at the National a couple of years ago, and loving her. She is nine now, and I still see her as a young puppy. What type. She should win this class, and looks like a two year old. Bob is laughing as she jumps and leaps.

YES, he pulls A Cut Above for the lead and puts Blue Moon's runaround Sue in second. I always have like Sue, and remember smiling the first time I ever saw here, and there they go.

First is Ch. Carolon ED A Cut Above, Second is Joelle's Beatrice V Diamond and Third is Mariner's Sudden Success Darte.   I can't see fourth. I will try to get it when they take the pictures.

Pam Stoesser is here talking to Ken Downing.

Val Manning came by to correct the Bred By Exhibitor dogs, but she said Bitches but when I looked it over, she figured it out, and she won fourth in Bred By Exhibitor Dogs with Terra Note's Making the Big Time.

Winner's Dog

Now we go to the dogs.  A lot of people think I went to the dogs years ago.  I loved the Presentation class. Where else can you see Bono, (looking like a puppy) Allllvaaan, Premium Blend all in the same class.

There go the dogs into the ring, and Jimmy is in first place with the puppy.  Carmen goes to the front of the line, over on the other side of the ring. Carmen wants us to applaud, and we should and there they go around and looking great.  We sure have a good looking breed. And he stops them in front of us and takes the 6-9 puppy down and back. That pup stands like a champion. Now the 9-12, with Lenny, and he looks awful mature for a puppy, and he is fired up. Now the 12-18, and down and back, with great enthusium.  Scott is next with the Novice Dog, and takes him slow, and a picture dog, great outline.  He stands him for Carmen to look at.  Next with Sean, the Bred By Dog, and Bi, and a good one.  Hard for me to see from above, but certainly quality. Now the American Bred Dog, with JR and the crowd likes him, that's In Cahoots.  And, the Open dog, Affirmed with Georgie. Georgie is laughing and he takes him down and back. Georgie stands him and goes to stand with the rest.  They all stack and Carmen walks over and stats at the front while hs stads back to look at each of them, and moves now down the line and takes a good long look.

He says, take them around, and give me a loose lead, and there goes Jimmy and he lets the pup all the way out, and goes very slow, a great job, but the puppy doesn't help much. There goes Lenny, and he lets the puppy out, but this one behaves better, and hugs the wall, The 12-18 is next and goes a bit faster, and no loose lead.  There goes the Novice with Scottie and he slows him down, and Carmen idicates the next one, but he waits for Scott to finish and there goes Jack with the Bi, and the dog is having way too much fun, and not working yet. There goes the American Bred, and that is a popular dog, a real loose lead and a great pass. And then Open with Sean, and not a good pass.He takes the puppy, The American Bred Dog, the Open Dog and and they go around the fist two, Jimmy and JR.  Now the next two, and then the last three.

And there they stand.  I think Carmen is thinking a bit, and he stands back to look at the first four and now the other three come up, but he has gone to the front already and looks them eaach in the eye, and the crowd loves the American Bred Dog. I know I like him too, and he moves two more up to look them over.  Georgie and Scott, and they take a free pass.

And back in line, to reverse and take another pass now with Scott in front and George following.
They are about done, and they are put to the end of the line. And Carmen ays take them around with Jimmy in front with the puppy, and the puppy is still in front.  Now they stand in the middle of the ring and Carmen walks slowly around them and behind them, and he likes what he sees.  He approacches the puppy and he crowd likes that and he gives them some direction and he puts Scott in front, then Georgie and now Jimmy. A difference from the last time and there they go with Scott in front now, and THAT'S IT!

On to Reserve.  I wonder if he will give it to the puppy? It is a great one, but young. If so, Jimmy will own Winner's Dog and Reserve Winner's Dog.  We will know in a few minutes. Carmen didn't take long to do thatl. There goes the second Open dog, In Thyme.  He takes him down and back. Stands him and sends him to the end of the line.  They are still lined up in reverse order.

Carmen looks at the first dog, I think the puppy is now in second, and he tells them to take them around, just the first two. There they go, no, it's all of them and the RESERVE IS THE OPEN DOG  MATTRACE'S AFFIRMED Breeder Owner By Ch TR's Antonio - Hickryhills-Mattraces Skirt Owner Jack and Vici Royce

Winner's Bitch

Now Winner's Bitch. I got to go down and smooze, I will tell you later about the Presentation Class.

In come the Bitch winners and Bob takes them around one at a time. Now Jimmie, and his bitch if fired up.  Now Lenny, and next is Scottie, then Jack, Georgie, Alex and a handler who I don't know.  I just met Bill's wife, and lovely lady.

Bob is looking them over and down the line from one end to the other. He wants to take the first five, Jack, Georgie, another, Alex and off they go.  Now the rest of them, and he started them in reverse order, the youngest in front.  He is walking over to them and he takes them each down and back.  Not much crowd involvement yet. He looks at them, then moves them to his right, and each one takes a pass down and back. Now Jimmie, and now they line up and says,
"I had a great time finding these bitches, and thank you".

Bob puts his hands in his pockets, and looks them over. Take them around one time 6-9 first with Jack and Jack says, "quiet" and the crowd like her. What a great mover, and a fantastic front.  Good applause, and she hugs the white wall.

Now the 9-12 and there she goes also a good one, and Georgie has her, and a Bi, if I am right, but not very anxious to show.  12-18,and with the name I can't remember. A good looking bitch that can move.  Tghere goes Alex, and she is very typy, and I guess that is the Novice Bitch and has great rear drive. There goes the Bred By, and she could go all the way, she carries her head up, but it doesn't seem to matter. Lenny with the American Bred Bitch. She is Select quality, and nothing you can say about her bad. And the open Bitch with Scott.  I love that bitch, she has it all. A very standard Black and tan with correct movement, strong back, beautiful head and great attitude.

Bob looks them over and pulls out Jack first then the no name, (I am sorry, having a senior moment), Jimmie, Lenny and Scott.  Ther go the double handlers. There go the first thtree, and Jack has her under perfect control and what timing that bitch has. WOW the 6-9 puppy.  He moves Jimmy up front with The Bred By, and takes the next two. Jimmy has Sor Juana.  He takes Scott and moves him to the front with the Open Bitch with Lenny in Second and takes those four together, now that is a sight for sore eyes.

He stops them and walks to them and moves Jimmy to the front. Now Bob puts Scott in front with the Open Bitch Boogie Wonderland, and they stack and he goes over to each one and looks at them stacked, then from the rear, and takes some time with each of them. Now from the front with the Bred by and now from the rear. Next he looks at the American Bred Bitch and the crowd goes wild and Bob laughs.  And he smiles and moves back. He says settle down.

And now Bob sets aside the last five and takes the first two, the Open Bitch and the Bred By Bitch together. What a pair of great and I do mean great bitches.  Two pretty good handlers too.  They are both standard black and Tans and they stall to get some breath, (no Jimmy of course) and there they go, now with the Open Bitch in front the crowd like that, and Jimmy has the better shoulder but the open bitch has better type. Bob brings them out to stand free, and they are so beautiful it is imposible to say one is better, and IT'S THE OPEN BITCH!

WINNER'S BITCH IS CHRRY CRUSH OF OH-MY Breeder Owner By Ch Kenlyns Aires V. Hi-Cliff - Ch. Do Si Do of Oh-My owner Myra Shear.

In comes the second Open Bitch, Eko-Lans Frankie, and I don't have to say what I think of that bitch.  She probably would have been my Winner's Bitch.

Bob does his thing, (I am sure he remembers her). The crowd does love her, and she is going to have a hard time with the Bred By and Jimmy, but should win the Reserve. But, as I said, what do I know.

There they go together, and it could be either of them. Bobo is about to choose and he looks and points to Jimmy.

OPEN Dogs

The dogs are in there, and now the fist group. And they are still marking them in, and now Carmen is doing the individuals, Georgie is out there. There goes Sue Wylie, and I see Ileana talking to Liz Sottile. Carmen is talking to Bob Grady and now Tiffany is in the middle now. Bob Eaton is here now, and I see Richard Sottile talking to Bob Freeny. I just heard Leslie's puppy got loose in the plane, but was waiting for someone when they opened the door. He wagged his tail and came to the first person who was unloading the luggage. Oak is walking by now, still thinking of when he was in front.
I see Norma is talking now, and Tedi is watching the show. Pat Ayres is talking to Joan Fox, and now Linda comes up for a hug. I see Bobbie Kindy talking to Ed and Ed is working the crowd. I was told that this would be Ed's last assignment at the national, and I said bull! He looks strong. Terrie Kreidler came to talk to us and continues to do great work in rescue, and we thanked her.
Back to the dog show. Down and back. More of the same. The last class in regular classes and then some strange stuff too. There goes Eric Norby. Donna Calabresse is ring side, and I see Leslie too, and they are both in black, I think on purpose. Laura Gilbert came by, but she was looking for Jean Whalen. There goes Dave Rinke. They continue to go around. There goes Cappy, and I see Dave Coleman waking by. Cappy is coming up to talk to us. Don Knight came by and talked to me. I like that.
And there is more going on in the ring. I have lost interest, so I need to get back to the show.
Carmen has his first group done, only 14 in the class. He moved Tiffany into the fourth place in the first group and now takes the second group around. Now doing the individuals. Suzy Whitmore is here talking to Leslie. I went to get a hot dog, and nothing new is going on. Dan Smith came by and I got to say hello to Dave Fritche. There goes Ray Johnson, and the dogs continue to go around the ring after the individuals. I see Jack Newton and Tedi came by to say hello. I always like it when she talks to me at a show. We called for Kay Reimenschneider, and she didn't come here.
I was just told that Kent is still at the hospital as soon as I hear something, I will let you know.
Now this group is done, and they are waiting for the last dog to make the pass. Eric is taking his time, but has a nice dog, so we don't mind. Now Carmen is looking at the faces, each dog as they are stacked and walks down the line. He takes less than a second on some, and a little longer on others, but just a glance. Now he walks to the front, and tells Ken to take him around, and there he goes. One of his own dogs. Each one, now, one at a time and Carmen watches then all the way around. Everyone gets a good long look. Jamie Walker came by for just a howdy.
I see Dania is here now, and Dan Moser is talking to Bob Freeny. Now JR, and the crowd likes him, that is Twyla's dog, so one I like. There goes Pan O'Dell. Leon Breau is going by, and there goes Danny Dwyer. Carmen is talking to two handlers and puts them back in their group, and now goes to the front, and looks in the eyes and walks down the line and looks each of the dogs again, directly in the face. Now, back to the front and give direction to Georgie and Scottie, who take off and take a pass, the fist three, with Lennie as well. He tells them to stop and now he takes the next four. And there are three left, and now they stack them. Georgie in front, then Morris, Scottie, Ken, JR, Lennie and Eric. Those are the top ones, according to Carmen. Then Cristy, Tiffany and he takes the other five around. HE watches them, but doesn't look happy, and he moves over to them and pull out All Martin, and send the other four to dream land.
Now there are 10.
Carmen moves Georgie into number one, where he was, each goes down and back and Morris in second. The Scottie, still in third. Now Ken, and a bit of noise for him, and Carmen sends him over to the land of "dreaming about Winner's Dog At The National." Now JR, and over to Best of Dump. Now Lennie, and he takes a bit of time, and stays with the keepers, and now Eric. The crowd either doesn't care any more, but Eric goes to the same part of town, and Cristy joins them. Now Tiffany, and in a bright pink jacket, (I have now stooped to fashion statements). Last is Al and he is thrilled to be there, I am sure.
Ken Downing is talking to Ed, and telling him how to judge, I am sure.
Carmen goes over to the ones left, and stands back and tells JR to go to the front, then Georgie, Scottie, Morris, Eric, Chisty, Ken, Tiffany, Al, and Lennie. Twyla might go all the way, she is probably having a panic attack. It has been a long time since her Number Two Select Dog.
They now take off, and I have lost it, there is JR, Eric, and Christy, and maybe they are a second group, not the first. The fist group seemed to be Morris, Scottie and Georgie, with Georgie in second.
There go another four. I guess Morris is in front, then Georgie, Scottie and JR. He gestures to Morris, and says, "Bring out the first four to stand loose. He backs up and now say bring the rest and let them stand loose. No, he says take them around one at a time, the rest are standing in the middle of the ring. I am confused, and now he says something to the rest of them, and they stand facing us. Carmen takes Georgie by himself, and I guess he wants each of them alone one time.
Each makes a pass. I don't think they know what is going to happen yet, but I think they are going to stay the way they are. In the words of Ed Barritt, "What do I know?"
Ann Schultz is walking by and there goes Teri Miles Green, and Jen Root.
The last dog takes his pass, and Carmen stops looking and says, bring them to the center and leave them on a loose lead, the first three. He looks them over and walks around looking at them, and walks a circle around the group and moves Georgie to the front, then Scottie, and the Morris. Now the next three. Carmen walks a circle around the three and goes back and forth looking at them and moves Christie to the front of the three.
Now back in the line and he stands back to look then over, and walks down the line, and gives them all a look, and gestures them back, and they are at half ring and there goes the entire class, and this should be it. That's it.
First is Mattrace's Affirmed, Second is Keylis Bloomsberry's In Thyme, Third is Brownhill- Kysarahs Leonardo, and Fourth is Kota's Independence of OV.
Flower Boy is causing a stir, Bob Eaton came to say hello, Nancy Hubble, I see Pam Stoesser, and Kevin Renolds is walking about. There goes Jack and no one seems to know the schedule and when Winner's Dog and Bitch will be? We are working on finding out.

OPEN Bitches

I love to come early and reflect of what has gone on so far. The ring is quiet as people start to file in. So far the show has been tense, fun, angry, scared, irritated, insulting, happy, blaming, and strange. Under it all is a deep love of the breed, and friendships that will never be changed by transient events. I have seen a lot of misinformation, some fear, and a lot of wrong thinking. But, in the end, the meeting went well, Lew did a great job as the ambassador of our club, and no one got upset. We have a new board, and the problems will resolve themselves.
Today is a new day and it should be fun. Greg Eshett just came by, Gary Szynzyk is walking by, and everyone is working like crazy to make this a good show. I see that DD Ardoin is talking to Bob Kish, and Bob is on the microphone. He has such a good voice, and makes a tremendous announcer. He has been doing it for over ten years. Grace is here with her entry, and I see Bob with a camera on his shoulder, again in shorts. I did get to talk to Maryellen Kish, and I see Carmen is here but not dressed. Lew is in the ring with a load of water, and he has been working every minute so far. I talked to Dean Wylie and congratulated him.
We have a tremendous group of board members for next year. They will find a way to solve the problems left for them, and how to avoid the new ones. Liz Leshhorn and Robert are here, and ready for a dog show. I see a lot of handlers down at the end of the ring, so a dog show can't be far behind.
I read some of the List and realized that I may be exposing myself to what I think too much. I don't audit what I type, so those who wonder how or what I am thinking, now you know. I am not sure that is a good thing, but I have never been a private person. What you see is what you get, and not much else. If you think I am hiding something or trying to present an agenda, by now, you have to realize, not so much.
Tracy Raddigan is here now, talking to Twyla. I did talk to Rick Oslowski, and his back was bothering him, but he is doing better. I am anxious to find out how Kent is doing, but haven't heard yet.
Ray Johnson is by talking about Andy Rhenhosky. What old time memories. Twyla and the Famous Linda Battistoni are talking and I see Sean is here early. There are but a few people here this early, I see Cathy Potter, and there are mostly empty seats as the Open Bitches enter the ring, and I see a couple I like already.
________________________________________________________________________
Bob has the greatest suits, and he is in there with a dark black suit and a blue gray shirt and looks like a judge should look. He keeps in five, and looks them over, and tells them to take a lap. In the first group is Bill, Greg, Georgie, Sean, Grace and Tish. Joan Fox is here and so is Carolyn Martello. Jenn came by to take a picture. The arena is starting to fill, and Don Knight just walked by, and I like the mustache. Bill Bergraf is sitting with us, he is the back-up announcer and he is an interesting person. I think maybe next year we might try to get him back to run again. I see Nicky Bunch came in.
The individuals are done, and Bob is walking down the line and asks to see the first three. I stopped to talk to Bill Leonard.
Now the second group, Ken, Jack, Eric, Cindy an Diane. Jamie Walker just stopped by, and I swear she looks younger this year than ever before. I have to figure out what she is doing. Now the individuals. Ken Tank is out there with his own bitch he owns with Jim and Eddie Hall. She is excited, and seems to love the ring. I know the bitch, and it should be fun to see her move. My opinion? She is being badly over double handled right now. It is hard to know just how much to do. I know she can move. There goes Norma, talking. Linda Bankhead is here and talking to her Mom. Now Jack goes out for the individual.
Paula told me about a T-Shirt that said, "They think I have ADD, but they....Oh look a squirrel." I feel like that at this show. Joe Bahari is here and talking to Georgie's wife. Now Jack with a Frasono bitch. Now Cindi. I see Kathy Tank at ring side, and Liz Leshhorn wants to say hello to Arlene Keller, so there you go. I am so glad to see Liz her, and she seems to be getting better.
Diane Brown is now center ring with Ms B Havin, and doing her thing. I see Bob and Darlene Ghelegi, and they have a son in the area. Darlene just had ankle surgery, but she is getting around. Flower Boy is here, and I heard him before I saw him. I see Tish Walker and I am pleased she won, she will be a great Vice-President. There goes Carole Moore, and I see Bob ring side. JR is wearing an arm band.
Bob is looking over this group of six, and he tells them to take a lap. The place is filing up now.
Joe and Leslie Beccia are here and I know they are having fun. They had the Futurity Victor, if anyone is interested.
Of goes that group, and in comes another. Bob take no extra time, but gives everyone a good look. I sure do miss those who aren't here. I expect to look up and Rita, or Helen, and without Tom it seems different.
Only two absent in Open Bitches and one move-up. This is the last group, six in the class. Debbie Hokanan is here, and has a great jacket on, mostly club colors. I see Libby sitting talking.
IN the ring are Joann, Scottie, Cristy, Jr. and a couple I can't see from behind. The first bitch is a daughter of one of my favorites, Olympus Fire. I think I might have finished her. Diane Brown is walking by. Another of them who never gets older. Ed is here, and wearing overalls as usual. Tiffany Bartley. I just heard that Kent will not be showing for the rest of the weekend. The crowd likes Boogie Wonderland. She is a nice bitch. I was amazed to see Dan Moser here last night, and he is here today. I think he might come back, so now I have to work on Dick Jennings and get him involved. Dick works with me at the law office, and I know he likes the sport. It is time we all got on him.
Another pass, and now that group is almost done, and Scottie takes his bitch to the center line. It is quiet now, and I haven't talked to anyone about the new board. I think it is a great group, and I have hopes for the future.
At the Futurity weekend in California I fell in love with a sable bitch. She is in the ring now, and I think she is a real winner. I don't know what Bob will do with her, but I vote for her as she stands for the individual. Her name is Frankie, a dark sable. There goes Danny Dwier.
Now Bob starts to place them. Scottie, then Christy, (that is my choice) and then Joanne. There they three go, and what a group. Three future champions, for sure. Now the second three. Good ones too. Bob looks them over, and they all stack and he sends the last tow to the far corner, and the other four, to the side, and calls for the first group, and in they come. I see Lauren walking down by ring side, so Scottie must be in this group.
They stack and Bob looks them over, and crosses his arms, they stack and he is laughing about something, and smiles as he looks. Bill Basu lost a show, and Bob takes the first three around. There they go, and I love the quality of these bitches. I like the males too. Hell, I love this breed.
Bill moves Party of One to the front of those three, and now the second group of three.Bob is walking around and then down the line, he weaves and looks at each bitch and move Sean to the front and now Patti, and then Georgie, and says to take those three around. There they go, and Bob sure has no problems find the good ones. I doubt I will ever be able to judge that well. And they line back up, and he looks at each of them head on, and wants to see the first three with the other group, and sends the last three to the corner.
Bud Drew is here now, and now the last group is in there. Ken, Jack, Diane, Eric, and Cindy. There goes Erin Nellis. And three bitches in the ring. Scootie is here with a German Shepherd, talking to Pat, (Scootie, not the dog) and Tiffany. And, now the last three. Bob looks them over, and clasps his hands and stands back and looks again, and he pulls Diane, then Jack, Ken and one more. He takes those four and I like the one Jack is showing but she is pulling too hard. It is Shawnee Kat. That is a nice bitch.
Now, back to the "another day another show" group. Seven with low hopes on their minds. They at this point just want to make the cut, but I doubt they will, and there they go. The first four. Bob says take Me Oh Milee V Kenlyn to the good ones, and there go the last three. And so far there are six, and then there were none, they get to go home for another year. Bob now has eleven.
Sean, Trish Georgie, Scot, Cristy, Joanne, JR, Diane, Ken, and Jack goes into the class. He moves Scott to the front with Crush, and moves the next group of four. Bob is looking them over, and walks towards them, and has his arms crossed, looks at his other group, and looks back and walks closer and closer, and pulls Joanne, then Cristy, (that's the bitch I love) and she is now in third. Now Diane, and then JR. He takes the last four and looks them over as they take another trip, (maybe the last until next year when they are in Specials). He watches them, and now they stack and he pulls them to the end of the line, and looks at them again. He wanted them closer, and he now walks back to look closer and takes Jack and puts him in fourth Ken goes to six, and the rest leave for the day. Now there are ten. All good ones, and some great ones too.
I hear Flower Boy, but don't see him. I see Bill Basu, so he can't be far. There go the doublers, and now the bitches take off. First goes the last four, from the second class. Now another three from his other group, and there goes Sean, Dianne, and Jack. Helen Franklin just came by, and it is great to see her. Moved the second place to fourth, and there goes the first three, with Scottied, Joanne, and Frankie. I don't think there will be much change, but Frankie is now in second. This might be it, she has done what she can with that bitch, cut it isn't over until the Fat Lady sings. I hear the music as they take a lap, and what a line-up.
Down and back, number one Scottie, and a short trip. Now Christy, and they go to the end in that order, and now Joanne, with Boogie Wonderland and still in third, and Sean, with Just Lustig At Heart. Now Jack Shawnee Kat. Now Diane with Ms B Havin, a great one to be in sixth place. What deep quality.
There they go, and I have my heart in my neck and love the second one, but it might be too late. Yes, it isn't over, yet. Bob sets them aside, and says bring the first three out. What great bitches, and says. "Drop the leads." He looks then over and pats each of them and says "Take them back". And he does the same with the last three. And, they set them up again. Bob puts his hand in his pockets and says: "Use the whole ring, one at a time, and tell ;your double handlers to leave them alone, and a loose lead!" There goes the first one. GREAT!
The crowd knows it too. No changes so far, and two to go. They hit that white wall and you heart has to sing. That is it for this pass, and he walks over to them, and looks them over, and says take them all one time. This is it, I think and yes, that's it.
First is Cherry Crush of Oh-My, Second is Eko-Lan's Frankie, Third is Liebchen's Boogie Wonderland, and Fourth is Topbrass Just Lustig At Heart. I expect those first three will be Select within two years.
Now on to dogs.

The Annual Meeting - No one got shot

The Annual Meeting went well. No shouting or even a raised voice. Lew handled it perfectly and did mention the law suit but that was all.

I was troubled to see an armed guard. I went and talked to her, she was an off duty officer, and also agreed with me that it was rediculous. I also didn't like that they hired a parliamentarian who sat at the head table with the board, but no one asked.

I did find it tedious to listen to two presentations about research, but it was for the good of the dog, and while I think it should have been done at a seminar, I can't bitch about it. They did a good and short presentation and it was interesting.

There was a big turn out, standing room only. The election went off with no problem, sufficient ballots were received.

Our new President is Gail Hardcastle. Vice President is Tish Walker.  Margy is elected to the position of Secretary, and our new board members are, (in order of votes), Joan Fox, Carolyn Martello, Dalene Makentire, Carmen Battaglia, Dean Wylie, David Firtsche, Nancy Harper and since there is a vacating of the board by Gail being elected, Kathleen Strong will serve us on the board. Because not all of those were elected by a majority, the board has to appoint them at the meeting on Sunday, but that is you new board.

The by-law changes passed, but the Code of Ethics didn't. All four of the by-law changes passed.

The Lloyd Bracket award went to Fred Migliore, and he deserves it, and it made me proud that he won it.

The Don Cliff award went to Ben Bigornia, and he was very surprised but a good choice.

The Connie Beckhart award went to Gail Sprock and I don't need to tell you how I feel about that. There is no one in this sport that I respect as much as Gail, and I am so proud to be allowed to call her my friend.  She was very surprised and I think pleased. Gail never did show much emotion.

I am pleased with the election and that the problems are over. Gail will handle the future with grace and style and Ken is committed to helping her. We have some new board members with strong ideas and a willingness to work for us, the little people.

I am especially pleased that Kris remains on the board, (I think). She was not listened to by the past board in many instances, and that led us to much of the problems we faced.  Now, with this new board, perhaps she can advise them of any legal problems and avoid many of those things that happened.  She had to resign as head of Legal Affairs because no one would listen to her, it will be different with the new mix.

It is after eleven, and I am much too old and tired to do this, but I am pleased that the guard never had to pull our her sidearm, (a 45) and that we all left laughing. I like that in a meeting.

American Bred Dogs and the end of the show today

Now we have the American Bred Dogs in the ring, and Carmen is doing his thing. Now that is a great group of dogs.  This place is still full and it is 4:30 with a big class in there.  Each around one time, and that would be all I could do.

Carmen has seven and he goes up to each and looks them in the eye, and pauses in front of each of them. None of the dogs react, although this one is watching him. He doesn't do it to the last one, but goes to the front and tell them to take a lap, one at a time and stop on the other side. There goes Georgie.  Now Kient, then Bill Tank, then Sue Godek, Ken Tank, another and Lenny. I know Another is going to be mad at me, but so are a lot of people.  She does a super job and is showing Joelles Leonardo Windward for Carrie and Oak Smith. The dam is an Asgard dog, so I should know her.  I am such a schmuck at time. (Shut up Paul.)

I did see Oak a while ago, and loved it for the few minutes when he was in front.  Now Carmen takes the dogs one again, now three together.  Lots of bells and whistles. Sort of like a Dell computer.

Now the other three, and Carmen can't get their attention. No, Kent is going out and giving his number to Alex. I hope Kent is OK, but it has been a long show, and he is limping.  It looks like his back.  There they go, Lennie, Alex, Bill and the girl I have to meet.

They go out, I think just to stand, and I see Pat Ayres talking to Lanalee.  There goes the next group, and seven of them in the ring.  I can hardly stand the tension.  Harley Davidson is in the ring. That is what type is all about. He is Paula's dog, with Grace showing him. I don't know if Carmen would like him, but I sure do. Bob Eaton and Dave Rinke are talking to Joe Bahari, and I see Kevin Renolds talking to Kris Fasano and Nancy Hubble.

Carmen is starting this group in individuals.  Harley is first.  He rearranges them and Harley is up there in second or third, and they go out to make room for new dogs.  I see Tish is here, and smiling at everyone. So is Ginnie in pink.  I swear she looks younger every day. How does she do that. There goes a pair, Dania and Lanalee. They have a dog in this group, Thunderbolt.   I don't see him, and maybe he was in the last group. I am such a failure.   Dave Rinke is talking to DD Ardoin and Bill Leonard.  Talk about the Left and the Right.  Bill Tank is talking to Scottie.

Five o'clock and still judging. Maybe this is how they will avoid the Annual Meeting.  I see Ann Schultz and she looks like she is having fun so far.  Bob Eaton is in front of us, and he never seems to sit.  I just saw a dog I like. His name is Park Avenue, a TR's Antonio son.

Kim Schooley ave Rinke. Bobbie Kindy is standing behind Kim and they are all looking for something.  Tedi is talking to Twyla, and the dog I like is one of Twyla's breeding. He never looked that good to me before.  I talked to Gail Sprock today, and she is doing well.  That is a relief to me.  If Carmen can streach this out, we won't be able to have the Annual Meeting, and that might be a good thing. There goes Yolanda, and the crowd seems to have lost interest.  The numbers are all strange and with different markings, so we can't know for sure who is who, or is that who is whom?

Now they are lined up in the middle of the ring, with the other side away from the crowd. Carmen is walking down the line looking at these eight, and now he goes to the front and tell them to take a lap, JR is in the lead, for now, one at a time.  I loved Elmo in the Stud Dog Class and the Elmo T-shirts.  He is a good looking German shepherd, and I wonder if he will be shown in Specials. And Carmen brings them to the center and turned to our right, so we get to see the handlers from behind. I have never seen that before, but Carmen is now walking down the line and stares them in the eyes and none of the dogs seem to care, I can't talk for the handlers, and he pulls JR to the front, then Lorie, Mike, Jack and brings the rest up to the group, still stacked to the right.

There they go again, now two at a time.  DON'T FORGET THE LISTER'S PARTY AT 8:00 AT THE MCKEY CENTER ON FRIDAY NIGHT.  And now the last four, agains stacked so we can't see the dogs.  He moves Sergio into Best of Dump.  And he takes the group and isn't watching them, so they sneak out of the ring but stand around for later.
Now his other group, with seven more, led by Georgie, Nancy, Ken, Lenny, Alex, Bill, Unknown handler and now there are three groups, all in the ring. Carmen goes the the first group, and looks them over and pulls the first four, and looks now at thesecond group, and is gesturing and they stack. There are four in the corner, four in the middle, the resst stacked first a group of five, then a group of seven.  All stacked to the left, and he sends five to the corner, and now looks at his last group, there sare nine, and he pulls three of them, leaving ten in the ring stacked.

He tells them one pass around and if I understand it is the last pass for them, they go off one at a time, and not much enthusiasm from the spectators.   now stack again, but now in front of us, and two more to go.  The handlers earned their money today. Everyone did get a good look, however, and no one can say they were ignored, but all of them are sent to the Big Release In Colorado.

Carmen now has 16 left and it is five thirty.  And there they go, one at a time. These are in the order they came in, after he arranged the groups, so I think there is some work to do.  Some dogs are liked, and some seem to bask in silence. Paula's dog, Harley is still in there. I know she is thrilled and so am I.

Carmen is now walking down the line and looking at each of them. He seems to walk fairly fast, it doesn't seem to take him long to look at them, but he does look them in the eyes.  And now he walks to the front and starts to place them, First is JR, the Georgie, Ken, Lennie, and Christy, Mike, Sue and a young boy and Scott at the end, the rest get a break, and I know they welcome it.  He has ten, and he takes the first three. I think first is In Cahoots, but we aren't sure.

Now the next three, and four standing off to the other wall, and now Carmen says take the rest of them and the four get another pass.  Sheryl Brockett is working hard, and her first dog, goes into the front, and Carmen pulls some from the end and talks to the handlers and gives them some direction, and there go the first three and Carmen sends them t the corner to stand outside. Then he sends two more around. The first group is still in the ring.  Now these two come back and he sends them to the corner with his first grou, and now there go another two, and the crowd likes that one. It's Full Throttle. Now his next two and they are good ones too. But now a lot of crowd support.  Carmen takes the last two, but doesn't give direction to the other two, so they go join the others.  Everyone is stacking and Carmen walks over to them. Now Carmen walks the line and stares them in the eyes and moves quikly down the line.  He only takes a few seconds with each dog, and the crowd is shouting for their favorite and he doesn't seem to notice. Now he stands back walking backwards, and looks at his lineup. They stand and pose, and he starts to p;oint. JR back to the front, then the one the crowd loved in second with Georgie, then, Lenny and  Christy and then Nancy.

He takes the first three, and lots of support for the, and not sure which one is the crowd favorite, and now the next three, and the last four.  What a workout for these handlers.  They line up again, and Carmen wants to take them down and back again.  Seems sort of late for that to me, but what do I know?

Yes, Georgie is a crowd favorite, and now the third one.  I think I am too old for dog shows.  He is at the far end of the ring, 110 by 230, so I can't see much. The crowd loves the young kid, and it many be just who he is, and Carmen moves him into fourth and the crowd goes wild.  And we thought we didn't make a difference. He didn't bother with the last three, and tells them to stack.  They do as they were told, and nowhe says to bring out the first four and looks at them standing.   And he sends them back in line and takes them around.  All the class together, and YES, that's it.

First was Shadow Acres & Castlehills In Cahoots, Second was Trafalgar's Full Throttle, Third was Kaleef's Iot's All About Me, and Fourth is Samuri's Jett Jackson.

It was a long day, I am about done, and will try to make it to the meeting. I will let everyone know what happens.  Lew has done a great job of keeping up the smiles, and after all that went on, we are ready for another day. Thanks for listening.

American Bred Bitches and exhauston

The presentation class was fun. When Joy came in a big share of the crowd started to sing a Joy song, and she loved it. Baily's class was great and fun to see.

About an hour ago, someone came to the announcer's table to say that as she walked by a car, she was startled to see someone knocking on the glass and holding up a message that she couldn't get out. So we announced for someone to go to the car. When they checked, no one had gone, so she came back and asked us to announce it again, which we did. I found out that it was Ilean VanWieren, and she locked herself in and couldn't open the doors.  She is OK, but if it had been a dog, we would have called the police and brought charges. But, it was just a human being.  A good one, but not a dog.

I took a break and bought some great stuff for the kids in the office. They aren't into dogs, but the two girls are 18 and 23, so they will take whatever I give them. They are staying at the house to take care of my dogs, (can I be sued for that), and so they either hate German shepherds by now, or love them.

Bob is smiling the class is in, and the first group of seven is there.  Ken, Bill The Guz, Olivia Reggie and Jack. One handler I can't recognize.  Bill Tank is outside the ring with Kent, and they both have numbers so I know they are going in.  Bob is still doing the individuals, and the ring is open. Olivia is in there now, and she has grown up so much. She is a young woman now. Ed just came by and said he had second thoughts and he was going to kill me. I suggested he just sue me, and I gave him Margy's number. Come on, you have to laugh at this stuff. It is so tense now about the meeting, and we will see what happens in but a few hours.

There goes Kim Schooley, and walking with Erin Nellis.  Bob moves the first two. Bill basu with Sha Nay Nay, then the Guz witth Tikleme-elmo.  Next is Reggie with Vanity Fair.  And those three get a trip followed by the last four. I think the three are the ones to watch. Those seven take a break, and in comes the next group. Seven new ones to face the music.

Diane is in front, (for not) with Betty Boop.  But, that is how she was entered.  The second one in this class Tedi and I owned for a couple of months.  She went back to her owner with two majors, and is in there now.  She can move.  More individuals and lots of milling about. The seats are full and not much room in the bleachers.  It is good we are all friends.  Well, from my view, we are.

I did go to Sally's booth. Great stuff, and I spent my allowance. I may have to ask Tedi for some more money.

He pulled out two of them, Giselle and moved them to the side, and in comes another group, Leslie said to say hi to Dale and Bonnie and Olivia went second in Bred By and could have won. It is great to see Leslie feeling good and in top form. And she is in almost every class.

The new group has Kent at the end, for now. This has to be the last group, so there they go, and next the dreaded individual, for me at least.  My favorite in that group, Allyson.  I am not afraid to say ahead, but I guess I could wait until the winners are picked and then say that was my choice, and insert it in the front of the post. Maybe I will do that on Saturday to make myself look good.  There goes Cappy walking with Gail Hardcastle, and I understand Ken Downing is here, but I haven't seen him yet.  Bobbie Kindy is sitting with Nancy , and talking to Liz Sottile.  I did see Scootie earlier but Pat Parsons is sitting by herself right now, and Norma is talking.

Bill Tank just went around and it makes me feel better to see him breathing hard. I can't imagine that I used to be able to run this type of ring, and I miss it so. But, I see Jean Whalen hugging Terri Miles Green, and it is good to see them both. They have a nice tribute to Dick in the catalog, and a big poster for Bob Penny in the hall. We need to appreciate our friends and those who should be our friends.

Olivia came by to chat. Actually she wanted to see a card trick, so I showed her a new one I am working on. Peter Cassiopio is walking by and also Dania stopped by. Pan O'Dell has a great leather vest, and I may try to steal it from her.

Back to the show. My attention is waning, and I need to maintain long enough for Saturday, and there goes Kent, the last in the last group. Now the real stuff begins.  He put Kent in front and then goes to the first group, with Bill Basu in front. Olivia is helping me and he moves them around and is placing his bitches.  He has Giselle in front with Long Ht Summer in second and he stes them aside, and aske the rest of the class, four bitches to go around.

He moves them to the other side, and now is working with the second class and moves Diane up to fifth in that group, and I know she is excited.  Then he takes them around.

Helen Gleason just cam by and talked to me.

There they go and Bob is walking over to this group, and he is talking with hand gestures and out go seven and no more National for this year.  Now he looks over He moves Giselle up front then Allyseon and then Sha Nay Nay, and the other four.  Now Bob stands back and takes his last three around.  And Bob tells them to take them loose and one at a time, and there goes Gesille.  Next is Kent with Allyson, and that is top quality. I think I spotted her when they first came in, or was that another class?  Dania is here too now, and talking to Olivia.  I see Kathy Tank relaxing, and the end is in sight.  The crowd likes Long Hot Summer.  There goes Bill Tank and Sean is talking to us now.   They need water for the handlers, and I say, let them eat cake.

Bob is done looking them over and calls the first three to the center. They stand loose and he is looking at each of them, and there goes Norma, she is not talking.  He reaches for one and "not a chance".  Now he calls the last four out there, and stands them.  All good bitches, number one, goes to last place and now Kent is in front, with Allyson. All down and back.   There is some excitement now, and three more to go.  There are cute ladies in there, and the bitches are nice too. Actually there is only one female handler left, and this national has all male judges. I wonder, is there a message there.?

He moved Jack into fourth, and at this point there is honor in a placing.  Bob walks back to look them over, and folds his hands, and Bob takes the first three, and I do like the third one best, except for the one in front who I would love to own. I think she is a super-star, but I am not judging.  Now he is looking at the last four, all good ones, in my opinion which no one cares about since the Mentor part of the National is over.

Standing, First is Kaleef's Allyson V Kenlyn, Second Hot Summer, Third is Backachers Sha Nay Nay, and  Fourth is Faith Rock Caralon Surfer Girl.

Randy Darnell is here with us now, and we decided to just end the discussions and just report the winners.  It sounds good to me.

Bred By Exhibitor Dogs

I took a water break, we bought a case this morning.

Tedi repeated a great story that Sergeo told her.

It seems Sergeo was in some out of the way place and Jimmy showed up. They were the only two handlers, and the judge was some little old lady no one knew, so he figured.

Every class she would say, "Jimmy, go in front."  Then the next class again, "Jimmy go in front".

Sergeo was getting a little sick of it, so about half way through, he said to the judge, "My name is Sergeo."

The next class she looked at the class and said, "Jimmy move in front of Sergeo."

Carmen is judging his class of seven and the dog needs a break.  So we get to wait.  For Bred By Classes and people who don't handle all the time, that can embarrass someone.  Now Carmen looks them ver, and walks slowly done the line. He stands back now and looks from the back to the front, and looks further at the end of the line. Bob Grady is in the ring cleaning up. What a man.

Carmen starts to place them and pulls out four, and puts them in order. I can't see from here who he has up there.  The crowd is alive was the for the first time in the class.  The top handlers are in this class, it seems that handlers must be doing more breeding.  There go another three.  I got lost here someplace, I don't think Carmen is. The beginning of the group, and now he tells the entire group to go, and the crowd like the Bi in front and an bi in second. Carmen walks over to them at the other side of the ring, and wants them to go down and back. In front is Hunka Burnin' Luv.  I knew it was going to be a good weekend when my car radio was set to all Elvis songs.  I haven't seen a rental with Serius Radio before.

Now Carmen brings them to stand in the middle. Mellissa just came by to announce the Junior's bags, and what a job she has done. Carmen is still looking at them, but now directs something.  He is taking around three. Now the second four. They stop, he looks again and there they go, all of them this time, with Jimmy in last place. And, that's the way it is.

First is Windy Acres' Hunka Burnin' Luv V J-Lyn, Second was Dct-Tebe Nobe Ne & Bobby McGee, Third is Regal Thunder's Petey Pablo, and Fourth is Hicliff's Hunter V Kenlyn.

Now to go shopping and watch the presentation classes.

Afternoon, Bred By Bitches

Bed by Exhibitor Bitches are in the ring.

Illeana came to see us, and she is laughing about the rumors, and talking to Les.  I see the Guz has new glasses.  He moves Oak to the front, and the Diane, and I see him take off, and it is good to see what a great job he does, and Now he has Jimmy in third, and calls in the new group.

In front, by the luck of the draw is a handom all black.  Bob stacks them, (he lets the handlers do it), and walks down the line. KIent is outside talking to Louie, and looking intense.  I see that Norma is talking.

Tom Mesdag is talking to Ed, who has his overalls on, and they are trying to solve the problems of the world. I hope they can do it. There goes Dan Smith, and I see that Bill Leonard is walking back and forth.  The judging goes on.Jean Whalen is talking to Bud Drew who has alot of old pictures. Was I evefr that young?

Paul Root is here and wearing the team jacket from the WDA trial. At least that is what it looks like.  Bob continues to judge, and still doing the individuals.  Richard Sottile is talking to Louie, who still refuses to post again. I think I know why. I see Jeff Mobeaus, Jane Kerner, Dave Rinke and Pam Stoesser standing in a group. I need to go over to learn about this breed.

OK, I admit it. I am exhausted.  I am planning on taking a break during the stud dog class, and I need it.

Bob is done with the second group, and looks them over and walk to the end and tells them to take a trip, just the first four. Anchored by Tiffany.  He moves Enchanted of My Joy up front with Olivia. I see Jack and Marylou Neton moving about, and Norma is talking

Sheree Moses is working this class of Bred By Bitches, and I suspect it is Jimmy's bitch.  ther goes the next three, and Jimmy is having a hard time getting her working, but there she goes. Nice bitch. Sor Juana.  Now the last three.  And he has seen it all. I feel the same way.

Bob stops them and looks over at his first group, and pulls Jimmie and Bedazzled and puts them in first and second.  Diane has Bedazzled.  Gail Sprock was here a minute ago, and looking awful good.  It was good to see her smile. I showed her my jacket, that she gave me over 20 years ago, as a gift.

Bob excuses most of them and has six left, and first three go around, and now the second three. Kent, Diane, and Olivia in front.  Now he looks them over and walks to the corner to take them all down and back. There they go, Jimmy first, and his bitch is pulling too much.  Next Diane, and she takes her slow and easy, and I get to see what is going on.  Now Olivia, and she moves up to second.  And two more to go. Down and back. Now the most exciting part of the show, to me.

These all are nice bitches, and should be in thefinal cut. Now Bob takes around the bitches, one at a time.  I think Jimmy will be impossible to beat, but the bitch goes wild, and still looks good. Now Olivia, and she has her bitch under control, and she is a crowd favorite, what a side gait.

There goes the third place Kimono.  Diane next and give him 12 foot of lead.

Everyone is getting a good look and a second and third chance to improve, but I can't see much changing, but I was not elected to judge.  Bob calls the first three to the center to stand.  He rechecks temperament, and is not looking at anything other than a temperament test.  Everyone passes with no problem and he puts them back where they were.  I heard him, he says, three at a time. First he moves Olivia in front and now her bitchis wild, and she gets her under control, and WHAT A FRONT.

Bob looks at Jimmie with the other bitch together and says they are two realy good ones. But, he gives it to Jimmy.  First is Kaleef-Jaepaul Sor Juana, Second is Aramist's Enchanted Of My Joy, Third is Kenlyns Kimono V Northhills and Fourth is Cinosam's Braunhaus Bedazzled.

If I get the energy, next is Bred By Dogs.

Second in afternoon

We have the Novice dogs in now.; Five in the class, and there were only nine entered.  So, it should go fast.  Carmen moves Kent in front with Machu Picchu, then Scott and he is too far away for me to see. With but five to work with, Carmen is moving quickly. Each down and back, and now the fifth. This is a quiet group with only five dogs.

Carmen now brings them to the middle and tells them to stand them in the middle while he looks them over standing there. He walks back and forth and looks at them, swinging his arms and tells them to go around, just the first three, Kent, Cindi, and Scott.  Kennie Cunningham is in the other ring with a red jacket and cap on.

Now Carmen lines them up again, and tells them to take a lap. I think this is it, and there they go, and he looksa at the front, and watches them and yes, that's it.  First is Lindenill's Machu Picchuk, Second was Man-O- Boyz Arctic Breeze, Third was Langenau's Sumo of Stoneway, and Fourth is Kriss-D's I Love Dr. Zhivago.

More to follow.

Prayers needed

Eddie Troki fell and broke her hip last night avoiding falling on Bono.  Anyone who want to see her, she is in the hospital one exit from the show. What a shame, and I am sure it will put a damper on the Nation for her this year.

Last of the morning

Bob had the first group lined up and takes the around, and now the second half of that group.  I see Al outside the ring in from Puerto Rico,a nd there go the second three.  So far he hasn't placed them, Bob, not Al.  He send the first five off to the side, and tells them to stank outside, but keeps them all in.

In comes the second group with Georgie, then Laurie, Lennie, Kent, and Diane.  I missed two, but I am old, so you have to cut me some slack.  I do wonder if anyone is listening to this drivel and if I couldn't get voice recognition software to make it easier?

There they go the second group seven. Cindy is here with us again, and she reminded me that I will be working the welcome table later. I see Reggie is walking outside the ring, and Christine Sparanza walked by.  Now, those are blue eyes.  I see Libby is here and taking to Bob Moore. Cyndy does look great, and wants to remind us all to welcome the new people.

Evan's talking so Cyndy here. Bob is going over George's Novice bitch. The class is small maybe ten or so. There are some really nice dogs here at the show. The site is amazing - the sod is beautiful, the vendors seem to be getting a lot of business. The stall area is nice, the Colorado club had a nice food spread for everyone moving in on Tuesday night.

The Welcome Waggin' is a lot of fun. I have met so many new people, and seen lots of old friends. We now have about 100 candid photos on the "Who's Who?" board. It's a lot of fun. Gary's making me retake his picture because he lost a bet to Bart and was wearing a COLTS jersey and cap yesterday when I took his photo for the wall. Today he came back in his Bears jersey and wants me to PLEASE retake his picture! :) What do you think? Should I? ;)

I'M BACK!  More individuals going on, and lots of talk about what is going on with the club, and Lea Ruggieri is here with us, and is such a nice person. She says only good things about people and it bores me to death. But, I appreciate the difference from the rest of the show.  Now Lennie is holding Calamity Jane for the individual.  It is sort of quiet here now, and I think there is going to be a seating problem by Saturday.

This location is great, but very limited food, (hot dogs and hamburgers), and not enough seats. But, the other stuff is great.  Now Diane in the center with Miakoda.  Great temperament, and a good looking bitch.  Stormy came by and said she is in charge of the Pity Party even if she is here. I see that Bob has finished doing the individuals, and takes a break to wipe his hands. I don't see any color coming off on the tissues.  Cindy Tellefson walked by with Bev, and I see that Gary Szymzyk has a dog now, so he must be entered.

Seven in the ring, and Bob takes the last three, led by Kent, and I know there are going to be some changes coming up any minute.  Norma is talking.

Bob stands back to look them over, and he has seven good one to look over, he walks up and moves back and forth looking at every one fo them closely, and no one can say they didn't get a good look, YES, he moves Kent to the front with Sienna, then Calamity Jan, next is New Sensation then Inferno, and Bob brings in the next group.

Six in this group, and he tells them to take a lap, and off they go. Four together, and I see a bitch called Born To Trot that I would take home in a minute. There go the last three, and Akash catches my eye.  Bob moves J-Lo to the front of that group, and now wants to look at his first group again.  There go what might be his "dump" group, but I am not sure, but fairly sure. He looks at them and does excuse them. They get to go home to wait for another year, and another judge.  We all know what that feels like. He has Miakoda in the rear, but I don't think that will stay that way.

There they go, one at a time. I thought I was getting excited, but no, they just turned the heat on. Man, the crowd loves I Get Around with Jack on her. Too bad only four can place in this group, there are lots of quality in this class.  It is fun to see who is liked by the crowd. They seem generally to know what they are doing.

Bob takes Diane around and that is the last one, and that is a quality bitch, Miakoda.  Bob loks them over, moves Scottie with J-Lo to the front, then Kent, Leslie with New Sensation and Georgie with Inferno, he also moves up Lennie with Soaring On A Breeze, and then Miakoda. I TOLD YOU!  I am not as stupid as you have been told.

Now there are only six left and the rest are given a chance to relax for this year.  He takes one down and back again, and looks at her standing, and is going to do them all. I do like the second one best. Sienna, but I am looking at her from a distance, and from above. Nancy Nellis is sitting here now, and watching.  There goes New Sensation, a bitch that could win another day, and gets moves up on coming and going, something I can't see from here. I saw Bill Leonard a minute ago, and there is a bit of tension going on now, as he is making his placings, and one more to go.

Miakoda, and she should move up, if Bob likes her, but NO! And, they line up.  Bob stands back, looks them over, from front to back and moves to the end t look at them from that perspective, and he instructs them to take tghe first three, and there they go with Scottie in the lead, Kent in third.  From the side, I like Kent's the best and he moves her into second.  So, it is Scott, Kent then Laurie, or rather their bitches.Bob asks for the three of them to stand in the middle facing me, and that is something to see. What great looking examples of our breed. Ron Peet came by with a great purple shirt.  Now we see the three of them standing loose. Bob goes back to the front.

He folds his arms, stands back in the front and looks them over, then walks down the line to look at the rest. He instructs them and tells them easy.  I heard Scottie tell his double handler, and he goes alone, and takes is slow. Bob says, DROP THE LEAD, and he does. Now Kent, with a very loose lead, now that is a fantastic moving bitch. Next is Laurie with New Sensation.  That is a loose lead.  Now Inferno with George and he gives bob a loose lead and she looks good. Bob is looking at them. Bob tells the crowd, "This is the worst time to double handle" and means it. He is right.

Now they lineI have been forced to sit next to Evan to provide security...every one is looking at us funny...FB

They go in the ring, and there is Joan Fox, and I see the big shift to the Right.  There is one person in the ring holding a bib, and waiting for her handler, I remember years ago when I did that, and it scared the hell out of me. It was also exciting. I have brought Flower Boy up to the announcers stand with Bob and I. They are talking sports, and they are both so much more manly than me.  I talk about dancing and flowers, so I know this is a treat for Bob.

I see Jane Kerner now walking about, and she is talking to Cappy, and There they go around with Carmen in his tux. He does clean up well.  And, Norma is still talking. There is Bob Gheglari, and Gary is working the crows. Richard Sottile came by and Bobbie Kindy.  Erin and Nancy Nellis are in the isle, and there is a bit more of doubling going on. Don Knight found breakfast, and I did talk to Illeana, and she has a big gold heart on her chest.  She has a blouse on too.  I get bored with the individuals, but that is just me. I should watch closer to see what temperament is about. I see Jean Whalen, and Norma is still talking, now to Twyla.

Carolyn Martello is working the ring, so her bitch must be in there. I did see Gloria Birch this morning, and Lew is talking to us now.  I also see Scootie is here early, and Georgie is outside the ring talking to someone.  Dave Firsche was here a wile ago, and it is very quiet in here. I see the Guz is in the ring, and looks bored.  Karen Taylor is woking too, so I know she has a dog in the ring.  Carmen is still doing the individuals. Bob Moore is here and I know Carole was here yesterday. Twyla is laughing and everyone is waiting for the judging of the placements to start.  And Norma is still talking.  Liz Leshhorn is here too, and lost a lot of weight. She wasn't trying to, but it looks great.

Carmen has broken them into two groups and he takes the first group around. I see Grace is talking to Paula and I see that Tedi is talking to Linda Bankhead and Joan Fox. Tedi is feeling great today, so the problems of this week are over, as far as I can see. Debbie Hokanan is here working the Foundation table and I notice that Carmen si doing another temperament test on the new group.  Bob Moore came by to complain about the doublers, they are in front of the people who bought the seats, and they do block the view. It is interesting this year as the seats are behind the opening area, so that doublers can move around. It is a problem this year.  Debbie Hokanan is talking to Illeana, and I tgold Bob to talk to Debbie and ask if she would have allowed it to happen this way if she was in charge.  Nancy, (used to be Godek) is here and has a great new hair do.  Short and blonde.

The crowd is starting to wake up, and a few favorites, but still individuals so it is time to talk to people.  Sharon Avery is here now, and Tedi volenteered her to work on the calendar next year. That could be fun. Julie Hamasaki is here, and I know, I spelled it wrong.

Tish Walker came by to chat, and is upset over the turmoil. Tonight is a big night, and I wasn't gong to go to the meeting, but I guess I will. I don't expect any problems, Lew will take control.

Carmen is still judging and Norma is still a talking.  Carmen has 12 or 13 dogs in the ring. Now he is starting to eliminate some of them, and takes the clzass around as a group. Bud Drew is here talking to Bobbie Kindy.  And now Carmen has them down to 11. He looks them over, and heads to the front with Poterhouse with Lenny.  I do like that dog, and Bill Basu is in second so Flower Boy is complaining that they are prejudice against Canadians.  Bill has an Army son, Last Cowboy, another superior dog.  Now Kent with Hot Shot, down and back one more tiime.  Next is Tiffany with Simon Says, a crowd favorite.  A nice sable.  Next is Anything Goes.  There are a lot of nice young dogs in this class.  Ben Bignoria is drinking, but it seems to be coffee. At least it is in a coffie cup.  Mike has Frazier, and then Scott with Tobias. Olivia is walking with Leslie, and growing up.   Last place for now is Diane Brown Bull-Lee. And Carmen moves Lennie up front, then Kent, Tiffany, and Anything Goes. And around go the first two. Lennie's dog can move, and against the white wall, a great picture, now Kent leads the two and his dog is another super-star. Carmen stops them as they are, and now the next two. Ginnie Altman has come by, and is talking to Bob.  And, Carmen reverses them for another trip. Each dog gets to lead one time. And now he takes the next two.    Ginnie is telling Ed that she hasn't gained any weight, has lost no hair, and looks good. Flower Boy just talked to Ginnie to get her to sing for him.  Ginnie looks great.

Now Carmen moves them to the center of the ring, and stacks them in reverse. So everyone looks at the wrong side, and takes them around from there, with Kent in the lead, then Lennie Tiffany and Scot. They are lined up and he says One at a time.  I just heard the meeting tonight is at the Best Western, not the host hotel. I wonder who knows that?

There they go, and some support from the crowd, we have some great looking young dogs here, and even the last one with Bill Basu is shouted up. Christine Spagnola has one more and even that is a good one.

Now Kent brings his dog out to stand loose, (or what passes for loose for a handler), and now Lenny does the same and Carmen sends them to the end to line up.  Some clear crowd favorites, and I see Scootie and Pat have a Corgie with them. That is a good looking, if a bit fat, dog.

Carmen is doing some directions and the handlers are indicating to the doublers what to do. And There go the first two, Ken in front and then Lennie. I don't think anything is going to beat Kent with that dog, it is a real top one, now the next two, and a lot of foot stamping for Tiffany a good looking sable.  Now two more, and not so much noise, but certainly some.

Two more, and but two to go. The last three take a pass, and they are popular too.  Carmen goes to the front of the line and looks them head on, and now he waks down the line looking at the first few from the front and now he backs up to look from the side, and everyone is telling the people outside to move, and there they gol, the whole class and Carmen is watchingthe front only and THAT'S IT!

First is Marquis Hot Shot, Second is Hickoryhills Porterhause V Babheim B, Third is Windy Acres-Dirigo Lookin' For Trouble, and Fourth is Zukerdok's-Makea's Tobiad

Bud Drew came by with pictures of me with Coco in 1979. What a great head of black hair I had back then. Bud looked like a kid.

Not on to another class. up againathe way they were.  Bob says this is six very nice bitches and he is looking to see if the topline stays when they move, and there go the first three again.  Now the last three, and I am watching the top lines after hearing Bob.  And, First is Woodside's CK J- Lo's, Second was Hi Cliff Sienna Kaleef, Third was Totana Piper Hills Inferno, and Fourth is Azuma Bellasay's New Sensation.

I hope this works for all of you.   Am sending this stuff out to the Blog before it is announced to the crowd here.

Mid Morning in Colorado

I have been forced to sit next to Evan to provide security...every one is looking at us funny...FB

This is the MATURITY MALE

PHOTOS BY TERRY COCHRAN

THIS IS the MATURITY Bitch -->

Thurs. Morning early first one

IT'S SHOW TIME

Another beautiful day in Colorado.  The sun is out the dogs are washed, the day is clear, and I am alive.  The 12-18 Bitches are in the ring,   First person I saw when walking in was Alycia in a full plastic body cast. I would have painted it to look like Wonder Woman, but she just left it gray. The Famous Linda Battistoni is sitting in front of me, and Tedi is talking to Jane Kerner.

I saw Jamie Walker early today and she is looking marvelous, and I hear Louis spreading the word, and not posting anything. Smart move. Georgie is staneding here pointing to something, and I spent a little time talking to Big Dave Rinke.  Rick Oslowski came by for a howdy, and there goes Donna and Leslie with Bart Bartly talking to Bob Eaton.  I did see Martha Simonette early today, and will find time to talk to her later.

Chris Morgan came by yesterday and said that Jim is reading this nonsense, so I hope he is having as much fun at home as we are here. Danny Dwier is walking in front of us, and Bob Lindsey is filming as usual. It is strange to see people in shorts at 40 degrees out, but here in Colorado this is a warm trend.  I see Maryellen Kish watching and now listening to Norma.  Bob VanWinkle is talking to Kevin Renolds and DD Ardoin is looking for his seat.

Incidently, there are bitches in the ring.  There goes Carolyn Margtello, and Sean is standing in front of us teaching people about dog shows. He is wearing a bib, so either he is in the ring soon, or just likes the look. The Guz is here and dressed to show, and I see Frank Frazano is now next to the ring, so he probably has another entry.  They sure had a lot of winners so far. I saw Max at breakfast, so he must have something in the show.

OK, OK, to the show.  He has them all in the ring, and has finished the individuals.  Joyce Ebert just came by. There they go all together, no, just the first four, three more standing.  I think there are more outside the ring. Kent is yelling at someone, and now Bob has seen who can move. He wants to check temperament on one again, and no, it is not goingto wok. He moves Kent to the front, Scottie in second, Jack in third.  Kent has Isabella's One Woman Show owned by Martha Simonette.  A good looking bitch.  Bob now takes the others around, I think he liked his first four, and in comes the rest of the class.

Bob now moves the second part of the class, the first three, and four standing. The last three of the first group are standing off to the side.  First our is JR.  Just for the temperament test the second one gets a lot of applause, it is Melina's Shakira and she goes to the front, and there go the four of them.  The crowd does like that bitch, and so do I.

Now Bob pulls out the last three, and moves the first four fromt eh second group to the side, and takes the last three of both groups together, six of them. I always have been good at math. He pulls out Alex, and lets the rest get a much deserved, if unwanted break, and out they go. And then there were nine.  The second five, and the first group of four.  He pulls Shakira and puts her in third, JR to fourth, and he is looking over the other three, and his first group, and takes his time to look them over and moves the three around agains, and there they go.  I think they are going out, but not sure yet, and Bob looks at them, pulls Bill Tank out, and lets two go out to get ready for Utah next year, or is it Beaumont?

Now there are seven, and the first four take off with Kent in the front. Scottie behind him. Nice bitches, and he pulls Shakira into second. She is spectacular.  Greg Eshette came by and wants us to think of him, and he is working the crowd. He does such a great job for our breed, in and out of the ring.

Now, down and back, first Kent, and now Shakira.  The handler is laughing at the crowd reaction.  Even Bob is laughing.  Jimmy is ringside with a sport coat, talking to Linda Bankhead.

Now Bob goes to the first three and looks them over again and goes that way.  A bit anti climatic, but it is in the books.  First is Isabella's One Woman Show, Second is Melana's Shakira, Third is Shoal Creek's Sangria V Barick and Fourth is Kohlein's Southern Rain.

Ed (Flower Boy) just came to the announcer's stand with Thurmand, and so I get to take a break.

Last from Wednesday in Colorado

Carmen is in there now with his last class for the day.  He has 12 in there, and the class did have 19 entered so only seven absent, that is about 1/3, and not a message.

It is starting to get cold now and seems to be they aren't going to turn on the heat.  I see Bill VanWinkle is here, and I have to find time to talk to him, I always enjoy him, and he has good ideas. I think a lot of people have left and so it is quiet again. Leana New came by, and her bitch won.  There goes Karen Briggs O'Brian.

Carmen is watching and looking them over, and he took the entire class with Bill Basu in front. Now he is doing the individuals. Kevin Renolds came by.   He was looking for his ride.  Still more individuals, and no one seems too excited about what is going on.  I see Sharee Moses doubling the dog Jimmie has, and Jimmie never seems to age. He is either as old as I am, or close, and yet, he is still out ther.

Carmen has them in two groups and his first group has Kent, Diane, Jimmie and Bill Basu. Not a bunch I would want to try to outhandle.  Now Kent is moving Winsome's Ray Bearone V Ekolan.  There goes Jimmy with Tazzman's Aregon.  There goes Diane with Todorhaus Heart Of Gold, and that's the group. Carmen looks them over, puts Kent in front and bring sout the next group, Tiffany, Bill Basu, Sergio, and others. I just can't see that far.

I am sitting at the announcer's table, and so far, no one has told me to leave. I think a few might want to, but I serve the Little People, and so, here I sit.  More double handling now, maybe people are just getting cold.  Also, this is an older class, so maybe looking to promote a stud dog.

Carm3en has taken a group of five, and sent the rest out of the ring. Kent is still in front, then Tiffany, then Bill Basu, and Sergio in fourth.  Diane is in last place, so far. Down and back with them again.  He moved Jimmy to second, and takes Sergio down and back and moves him to second in front of Jimmy.    I am probably wrong about these places, Jimmy just went back in second. He was just testing us.  Carmen is talking to Diane in last place, moves up the line and puts her in fifth, Best of Dump.  And, there they go, the first two, Kent and Jimmie, and Jimmie is covering Kent, and Kent is tryong to cut inside. Kent did say something to Jimmy and they both laughed, and now Jimmie in front and covered well by Kent.  Kent then pulled back. They are both laughing and Jimmy clasped Kent on the shoulder.

Ther go the second and third.  Lenny and Bill and now the other way around with Lenny in front.  The last three, Diane, Sergeo,  and Tiffany.  He moves Diane to third.  And he asks for Jimmy and Kent to bring them out to stand.  Carmen stands back looks them over and looks at the next two, out from the side, standing natural.  Like any of these handlers would allow that.  Now Carmen takes the last three to look at them standing.  He puts them all back in line iwth Jimmy leading, then Kent, Diane, and Lenny.  He walks up to the line, looks at the fist dog, then tells them all to take them around and there they go. Now the crowd wakes up,. Carmen walks over watches hem and that's it.

First is Tazzmsan's Aregon, Second Winsome's Ray Bearone V Ekolan, Third was Todorhaus Heart of Gold, and Fourth is Winsome's Star of the Silbear Screen.

I am beat, and I can imagine Tedi is ready to crash.  More dog show tomorrow, and I hope you enjoyed it through my warped eyes.  Dania is here, so my day is complete.

Next to last on Wednesday

Here we go with Bob and the 9-12 Bitches. There is a small class of six in this group, and there were 17 entered with five absent. So, using my advanced math skills, there have to be some more puppies someplace.  There should be 12, and maybe he has half in the group and hidden the rest.  Bob Eaton is in front of us now.

I was sorry to see people served with a Summons and Complaint. When I do it, I try to call the person and ask them to come get it, and avoid any problems. For whatever reason they were served, and seem to be upset. I understand, and I have made it clear, as of last night, I am no longer involved with the legal stuff. If asked, I will help, but I hope no one asks me.

Bud Drew is talking to Norma Hansberg, and I miss Rita. I miss the laugh the good talk, the kind words and the happy attitude.  I saw a picture Cindy took of me, and had I seen it before I left home, I would not have come. I look way too thin and sickly, and know it will improve. Everyone is being very kind, but I can see the surprise.

Sheree Moses came by and looks great as usual.  I thought I saw Martha Rinke, but now I can't find her.  I sent Dave the Dresden Files, and he has the new Vachss book to read that I also sent him. That one was too dark even for me.

There goes Pat Ayres and Peter and Rhonda Cassiopio, what a lot of work he does for the foundation. It is a big job, and he does it well. There is Jennifer Root talking to Ben Bignoria, and Sharon Avery is walking by. Tedi is sitting next to Cappy and just waved at Georgie, and I know they are talking about me. They are laughing.  Georgie brought his wife, now that is a gorgeous woman.  I had never met her before.  Greg Eshette walked by and Now Bob had done this group.  Now three at a time.  And the second three.  No placings yet.  I like his procedure, you can see what he is doing and sort of what he is thinking.  He moves Georgie up front with Makea's How A Dream Is Mad, and sets the group aside, and now the second group.

Sheila and Mike Metz came by to say hello to all you poor fools that didn't make it here. This is a great place, and the weather, so far is just fine.

Now he has his group in place and is thinking about how to place them. Donna Calabrese is talking to Bob Dresher, and the judging continues.  He puts Kent in front then Liz and two others. Ken has Tazzman's Serine Sy. I love a dog with a short name.  And, now Mike has them all in line. Bob is calling some out to the middle from the end of the line, and he takes them around.  I think these may be what he is going to excuse, there are four of them, and he thanks them and they get to go out to watch the rest of the show.

Now he replaces some and puts Georgie into third, and Diane Brown in Best Of Dump.  There go the first three, with Kent in front and Georgie in third.  Carolyn Martello just walked by. Bob Tells them to stand off, and takes the next three, leaving two standing.  He moves Diane up one. There go the last two, and the crowd likes them. The Bitch Puppies are very very good quality. He lets go the last two. They were good one too.

Now he takes his first three out to the middle Serine, How a Dream is made and Hollywood Celebearity.  I have to admit, (sorry for my opinion) I like the second one best with Liz Osler.  It is Winsome's Hollywood Celebearity, and I don't know what Bob will do. He has three good ones up front.  Down and back they go.  It is very quiet in here, five o'clock and that might have something to do with it.  He moved Sweet Jasmine Lenlor in second, and there they go in that order, the first three, and three more waiting.  Now the last three, Georgie Diane, and Kelly.

Standing that is it. First is Tazzman's Serine, Second is Fircrest Sweet Jazman Lenlor, Third is Winsone's Hollywood Celebearity, (I still liked her best even if Kris is mad at me), and fourth is Makea's How a Dream Is Made.  One more class to go.

Mid afternoon after Dogs

The puppy dogs are in the ring.  I see Tish standing next to Dan smith, and everyone has shifted to the right, that should not make Hillary happy.  Oh, that is politics, I guess.  Nancy Hubble is taking to everyone, and I see Dave Coleman is sitting and talking to the Guz. It was good to see Jerry in the ring, and he looks as good as ever.

It is quiet here now, and the class is about eleven 13 absent.  I would hate to think that people are going to pull under Carmen, and I hope that is not what is going on.  Twenty five entered, and over half didn't enter the ring. We won't know if that means anything until the next dog class.  Jimmie has a great orange tie, and unusual for him.    I did see Scootie and Pat, they both look great, and are sitting in front of me. I did get to say hello.

It is very quiet here, and Carmen is taking them each around.  Now to the next group, and this should not take long. It looks like he has two groups of six.  The crowd is silent, maybe because of the small class.  I see Ray Johnson has a lei around his neck, so Pat Ayres can't be far away.   I miss Helen Fisher, and I just heard that Helen Gleason's dog went first in Agility.

Carmen continues to judge, and there goes Ken Tank and Dean Wylie.  And Kathy Tank.

Carmen is starting to place them and he has Inflights' Singin In The Rain in front. Now he takes them two at a time. Les Salowski came by, and we tried to solve the world's problems. We failed so far. Now he leaves the three in front. And is looking over his group, four. There goes Pam Stoesser.  Now Kent is in front with Kaleef's Leonardo V Kenlyn, and he could win this class.  Now Carmen has five left and let the rest go. There they go, and Kent, and he counts them off before I could say anything more.

First is Kaleef's Leonardo V Kenlyn, Second is Inflight's Singin In The Rain, Third is Whitside's Freedom's Front Line and Fourth is Kaleef's Jaepaul Shazam.

Now on to 9-12 Puppy Bitches.

Mid Afternoon

Evan Joan Fox and Bill Bergraff are sitting with the announcers and Twyla just came by.  I was told that the law suit was just served, so maybe there is going to be some trouble today. I sure hope not. I had mailed it to everyone so it should not have been a surprise.

Sam Isreal is standing her, and Michael Cheeks is talking. Bob is judging the 6-9 Puppy bitches and it sure is a good looking class.  I did get to talk to Alycia Firtche, and I see Jack Kilgore walking by as is Trish Wylie. I know they all have different married names, (well, not Jack) but the rest of them do.

I am trying to decide if Joan looks younger than her daughter, and I am not so sure. The Guz is talking to Carl Radzavitch and Betty is sitting there too. Fred is hugging Maryellen. Linda is hawking the calendars, and it is almost impossible to refuse her.  She is persistant.  Nancy is sitting with Bobby Kindy, and Linda just promised a calendar with naked men is you aren't turned on by the dogs.  I don't know if we can trust her, Joan says she does have one.

I got to show Joan a new card trick. It is a bit slow right now, and there goes half the class. These bitches look good and so do the dogs.  Now Bob takes a look at the group and starts to place them, Jack first then Leslie, Greg and Kent, and off to the side they go.

Now the next group.  Three go over to the other side, and he calls in the stewart.  Over by the wall there are a bunch, but I don't know what is going on.  He now brings in that group, eight bitches.  He let three go, and the other four take another trip around, led by Bill Basu, and he lets them take some time off too. I guess he wanted to excuse those, but gave them another chance to excite him, they didn't.

Now he takes three from the next group, Now another three with Jack in front.
Now he places from those six, starting with Jack, then Georgie and Leslie.  He pulls out four, and now his next group, three more, headed by Kent.  There they go,a nd I like what Kent is showing, but too far away for me to see the number she is Frida Kahlo and now the last two.  So, he has six in front, and another five behind. He heads tot he five, pulls two from the middle and moves them up in front of the back group.

Bob stands back and looks over the end of the line and pulls our four of them he wants to see.  Two from the front and two from the back and they take a lap.  He is talking to the four and off they go to wait for next year.  In the front now is Avion Josephine of Pioneer Acres, then Kridler's Nutmeg V Signature. But I doubt they will stay this way. Leslie in third with a crowd favorite is Kiefernfels Iflifewerelikethat (I didn't make that up).  And then some more dogs. I am tired of typing.

He is taking them all down and back and they are calling for the 6-9 Puppy Dogs.  There goes Debbie Kaser walking by and Al Martin is in front of me.  Sue Wylie came by and I see everyone is starting to mill about.  Bob has a class of seven in there anchored by Kent, and everyone of them is quality.  It is fun to watch this quality of juding.  He takes the last four, and now the first three.  He moves Leslie to second and the crowd likes that. And Georgie goes in second and that's the way it is.

First was Avion Josephine of Pioneer Acres, Second was Kridler's Nutmeg V Signature, Third was Kiefernfels Ifliewerelikethat, and Fourth was Windy Acres Capital Gains V J-Lyn.

On to Dogs.

Break time on Wed.

The Breeder of the year want to Terry Kriedler and Leslie Beccia.  I just got a big hug from Christing Granger, and spent some time with LanaLee. The Mentoring seemed to go well,I enjoyed having people who were forced to listen to me.  Brent came with Karen Taylor,, and I will find time to talk to him later. He is always ready with a joke.  I am meeting with the Foundation later to discuss the Will Program.  I see Bill Basu and Jack Newton are talking to Tedi so she must be feeling better.  I see Carolyn Martello and she is holding that great Black Bitch she has. What a great looking German shepherd.  Cindy is here at the table to welcome the new people. She is taking pictures and I saw mine, and am depressed.  Kathy Potter is walking by and stopped to talk to Sam Colven.

DD Ardoin is in front of us. We are a bit hight for anyone to talk to, but I can lean over, or even stand to the side for the bleachers.  They have folding seats in four rows.  Behind them is a long row of bleachers.  Erin Nellis is sitting up here now, and she is another one of those who just stays beautiful every year. Seh never stops working.

They are doing the Hero Dogs then Rescue Dogs and then on to the puppy judges.

Second Mid day on Wednesday

I took time to watch the judging and Georgie won with Blonde Bombshell.  She never took a bad step, and three were lots of good bitches in the Maturity. I think I saw three that will go Select, and a couple more that could.  I did talk to Kathy Tank today, and she and Ken were not happy with the last class. They had Showoff who is one of my all time favorites and she didn't win.  On to Specials, she was on and should do well.  Sheryll Brown is walking by and she did put up the decorations on the ring, and that is something that makes it look even greater.

I got to say hello to Kris Frasano, who looks fantastic. She said she didn't lose weight, but she looks like she did.  Reggie has grown up and I was asked who the good looking young guy was in the ring. What a great handler he has become.

I spent a few minutes with Donna, she and Leslie are both here healthy, and working the ring.  It is good to see them without any problems.  I saw Nicky Bunch, but didn't get to say hello, another lady who never seems to change.

Eddie Troki is here and we got to hug, and I also see Carole Moore, and found out that Tom Brown isn't here.

Carmen is doing Best in Maturity and the two animals are in the ring. The Bitch in front standing free and Kent with the male.  Carmen looks at them both, walks around them and tells them to take them around There they go, with the male in front. Two very very nice dogs.  Carmen goes to get the ribbons, and he looks over at them, and we can't tell, and neither can the crowd.  They haven't gotten the ribbon yet, and everyone is waiting, as they stand at the end of the ring and Carmen marks the book.  The steward is holding the ribbons, and I don't thinnk Kent or Georgie knows yet either.  And YES, it's Kent with the male for Best in Maturity.

Joan Fox and her lovely daughter are talking to Paula and I see Don Knight here too, I think now might be a time to shop. I can't take the rescue presentation without tearing up.

Mid day on Wednesday

It is Maturity time. I am not mentoring any more. Everyone is sick of listening to me, and I wanted to watch.  I see Dave Firtche here talking to me, and he and Bill Bergraff are talking, and I see Mike Sherman talking ot Joann.  Paula is here and Karen Taylor went by.

I spent some time talking to Ed, he is always interesting. We solved the world's problems, and tomorrow we will work on the situation with the club.  I will be at the welcome table tomorrow, and I did get to march with the Foundation in the opening parade.

Futurity Dog is Kalees's It's All About Me, Bese Opposite, and Best In Futurity bitch is Ch. Jagan-Karagin Happyslysitall.  I didn't want her to win, the name is way too long for me to type. It is all about me.  Lew came by for a minute and said hello. I am just glad someone is talking to me. I even tried to say hello to Kris, and she smiled, so maybe there is hope after all.  I saw Vivian and Tom Brown, sitting with Jack and Marylou Newton. Tedi is here, and is not at full strength, but she is strong enough to bitchslap me if she doesn't like what I do.

I did get to talk to Sharon Allbright, and she is strong and ready to answer any questions. I saw Diane Brown, how does she get better looking each year?  I need to talk to her about that. Debbie Hokanan is here and helping at the Foundation as is Peter Cassiopio. I am continuing to work on Peter to run for Treasurer at the end of the year. So far, he won't.

They are doing Maturity dogs, and Jimmie went in front with Ch Kaleef's Joshua V./Kenlyn, then Kent with Keylis Bloomsberry's In Thyme.   Bob is looking a t the rest of threm and takes them around.  I see him watching the next threee Georgie, Kent andLeslie.  He now thake another three, and it looks like the first two aren't going to change, and he seems to be looking for any thing else he likes.  Bob has four over tin the corner, and Jack is there, and my eyes aren't good enough to see who else is there. He is going down the line, but this first two are out in fornt, and now he pulls Ch Marquis Stealing The show for and he has three to look over, Jimmie, Kent in second and then Leslie.  They are standing free, (sure, like that group would let them stand free) and the crowd likes Leslie in third. Now he looks at the last four, and they stand and he walks over and looks at them from the other side.  The crowd is quiet, and he is looking at Scottie's dog, and then the last two. I don't think he is overwhelmed with them but they are quality and then they go back in line.

Now he is taking Jimmine down and back. And some aplause.  Bob looks the dog over and now takes Kent down and back. More support for that dog, In Thyme.    Now the third one iwth Leslie,a nd Bob loooks hard at his first three and leaves them as they our, now number four.  My eyes are older this year.

I see Bud Drew talking to Sergeo.

Not much going on with the crowd, but lots of people here. I see Paula, not Pamela, already doing her shopping.

Bob is taking them all down and back again, and he is on his fifth, and he has six of them in what must be his keepers, and four over against the far wall. Now he goes to the front, and tells Jimmin something and Jimmie grins and there they go, the first two, Kent and Jimmie.  Now he takes the last three and they take a last pass?  Not a lot of smiles on the handlers.  Ob goes back to the front, and he looks over this first two again, now from the front.  Kent is working hard to beat Jimmie, but I doubt he will do it.  Bob is giving them a long stare, I don't think he has made up his mind. Now he walks down the line and stops at each one to show he is looking, and now back to the front, and he is looking at the number one dog.  He moves Georgie in fromt with Ch Darby-Dan's Just Jack and takes the three around.  He leaves them like that, but now a pass with Kent in front.  The next one, I predict will be Jimmie in front.   He looks at those three, and stands to look at them, and YES, there goes the three with Jimmie in front Bob walks towards them follows them, and looks at them now as they stop.

HE GIVES IT TO KENT WITH STEALING THE SHOW!

Wednesday at the show

It is the morning.  The best thing for me is to travel through the stalls and see the names of those I want to see later.  I saw everyone I know has a stall.  I got here early and got to watch it fill up. I think there are more people than I have ever seen for a Futurity, the place looks full already.

I see Don Knight, and Jerry Guzzman are here, and Bob Grady is wearing a purple jacket.  I see Jimmie, and talked to him for a bit.  Ginnie Altman is here, looking younger than ever, and seems to have figured out this thing about age.

The Famous Linda Bastionni is here,a nd so id Dorothy Lynn. Bob Eaton is standing talking to Bill Basu, and Dan Dwyer is taling to Ed Barritt who seems to be doing all the talking. There goes Libby, and I Terry Miles Green and Bill Tank.

They finished the Futurity while I was mentoring, so I will just give the winners.  Futurity Winner's dog is Kaleef's It's All About Me.  I think you can get the pedigrees on the catalog which I think Bill has on line. Let me know if not.

In the Ameteur Futurity /Maturity Best In Maturity is Ch Marquis' Show Stopper Surigo and Best Opposite In Maturity is Scharo/ark Too Hot To Hold.  In the Futurity the Best in Futurity is Melanias Orion and Best Opposite was Lorien's Quiet Nights of Encore.

I am sitting with Bill Burgraff, and Bob Dresser, so I should be able to figure out this stuff. Now, I have to go mentor some more, and Carmen is doing the Futurity Bitches. He is in a tux and does look good while judging.

Sean just came by to say hello to his mom. We miss you Joanne, why aren't you here?

Early Wednesday

It begins today. The Futurity/Maturity the puppy classes the show of the year. All the dreams, the hopes, the anguishes disapointments and the wishes for our future start today. It is early and I will be headed to the Arena soon, to help mentor the minds of those who want to judge our breed, Lord have mercy on their souls.  A number of those attending are doing so to be able to judge our Futurity, so watching must be bitter sweat to them.

Next year Sharon Avery and Pam O'Dell will be eligable, and I am sure will be two of the judges. But, this year the entries are set, the judges are ready, the sod is down, and the roads are full of puppies ready to show us all what we have worked for hard to achieve.

Because of my role, I probably won't post early, but I do promise to be back. Don't go away.

CONSTRUCTION REROUTING

There is a problem with construction at the Crossroads exit to go to The
Ranch. Here is a way around it.

From the Best Western or other hotels S. of the exit:
Go past the Crossroads exit to the N. Windsor exit and turn right on
County Rd. 5 to the site

From the hotels N. and Fort Collins go to the same exit but you will turn
left when you get off and go to Rt. 5. to the site.

Please pass this on to anyone you know out here and I am trying to get the
hotels to print the directions.

Tuesday evening

The seminar wass interesting, and LanaLee did a good job, with a lot of information in a short amount of time. Helen Gleason did her part too, and we all heard a lot about our breed and the standard.  We got to go out in groups to evaluate dogs.  They brought one after the other, and they all looked great. Finally I couldn't deal with it any longer, so I asked Kent who it was he had. A fantastic looking young male, with everything I like.  It turned out to be the Samari son I wanted to see. Then they brought this great looking bitch, turned out to be Leagaly Blonde.  I guess they didn't bring bad stuff for us to look at.

I did see Jack Newton and Marylou, and Liz Leshhorn is here and was headed out to dinner with Robert. I talked to Tom Mesdag for a bit, and we tried to solve the troubles of the world, and failed.

I am skipping the hospitality. It seems sides have been drawn, and both sides think I am responsible for the problems of the club. I figure by tomorrow it will be time to watch a dog show, and so I am skipping the gathering.  I will try to find out what is going on, and let everyone know. But, as I told Lew, after tonight I have nothing to do with any of the club problems, will not get involved, and will not give any advice. It tried to get things resolved, but it didn't work, so I am out of here, (but will be enjoying the show).

This is a very big site, with four main buildings, and plenty going on. Lots of people are here, so tomorrow we sit to mentor at the Futurity. I get a group that has to listen to me. How great is that?

Second part of the Seminar

We are filling in for the judges Seminar.

I just talked to Lamar Fredricks, and he is not coming to the seminar. Bob Gheglari came in, as did Paula. She told me that Harley got his HIT today, good news..  Pam O'Dell is behind me and Terry is taking pictures. I saw Clare Drosdick and LanaLee is here, and I got to say hello to Helen Gleason.  Ben came in and is working the crow.

Emily St.Hillare is behind me. They have great lunches for everyone, and the crowd is eating and laughing. It is going to be a fun day.  Bob Freeny is here to learn about German Shepherds and he and Linda are still talking.  I talked to Gene Gray, and Don Durkson is sitting at my table.

Sharon Avery and Michael are here, so my day is made.  Cindy Bartley came in, and the room is filling up.  I got to talk to Bart for a minute, and he looks good.  Pam Stoesser jsut came in with a tripod, so I guess she is taking pictures.  She is setting up her computer and I think she is recording this, and seems to know what she is doing.

Besides lunch they have a disc of the Total GSD the Standard, Judging the German Shepherd by Helen Fisher, and the Illustrated standard. There are 34 people here, and a few signed up at the door.  Food enough for everyone, and a nice set-up.

I have looked over the program for this Seminar, and tomorrow I will be a mentor for the Futurity/Maturity judging. That means I will do what I can to type while I try to confuse as many of the new judges as I can in the limited time I will have.  We are about to start, so more later today.

Tuesday mid-day

It is midmorning and I came over to the location to see what is going on. The air is clear, it is about forty degrees out, and cold. At least to me.

The stalls are clean and roomy, very safe. I did get to hug Gail Hardcastle and she lost all the weight I did, and looks fantastic. I saw Dan Dwyer, Paul Johnson and also got to talk to Randy Darnell for a minute. Reggie was there talking to Richard Sottile so I also got to renew that relationship, Reggie has grown at least a foot and is getting to look like a man.  I hate how fast the days go by.

The grounds are great, and the grass is thick and green.  The ring looks bigger to me every year, and it astounds me that I might have been able to run it at one time.  I did see Fred Migliore but he didn't want to talk to me, so I didn't push it. He and I have argued about the club this year, and he seems to be taking it serious. I don't.  I did see Ben Bignoria and he is taking the Seminar too, so that makes it even more fun.

They are doing the temperament test, and it seemed a bit chilly to me to stand a watch, but did for a minute or two. It seemed strange not to see Bob Penny out there.  Dean Whiley is here, and we howdied and shook, and I hope he does get on the board. He would be a great addition.

I see a lot of people starting to mill about, and the Seminar should be interesting. I plan to spend the afternoon there, so I will post this and more later.

Tuesday Morning

Cold, damp, crisp and clear. That is my first impression. I met some nice young folks from Minnisota who have some good animals, so it sounds.  He asked what dogs I have had, and I couldn't think of a good way to answer that. Again, I am reminded of the words of Mark Twain, "People would worry less about what other thought of them, if they only realized how seldom they did."

I am headed over to the Center to work on the Judges Seminar, Tedi asked them to volenteer me. It sure is a good thing she isn't my Sargent in the military, I would be out on every mission.

Had breakfast with Dave Coleman, and I am looking forward to seeing everyone. The Seminar entry looks like a great group of people, and LanaLee is giving it, so that should be fun. LanaLee and I used to show against each other about the turn of the century, and so if we can remember who we each are, it will be good to talk again.

I will be on the Blog more, since I have the new system and don't have to depend on anyone to let me get on line. I will try to update as many times a day as I can, so check often if interested.  If not, ignore it all, and think about next year.

Touch and Go on Monday

It was not at sure thing today. At five this morning the trip was off, but by eight we were packing. We were a bit late, getting to LAX parking less than one hour before the flight, but made it fine.  We even had time to sit a minute before the two hour flight.

Denver airport was great, about sixty and clear, man is the sun bright with air you can't feel as in Los Angeles.  The drive out was easy, less than an hour and we went by the show site, and it looks big, and impressive.

We ran into Paula, Dave and Jan with a good looking Elmo son.  Had a meal and now have been going over some work that was sent by FAX.  I have some stuff to respond to, then it is all dog shows.  Tedi is on the Education Committee and I am working wih her tomorrow at the Jude's Seminar as a mentor. That should be a kick. Can you imagine anyone listening to me?

I promise to tell all, see as much as I can, and bring you into the show.  It is going to be a great week.

The last day of the Great State of California

Yes, this is the last day in California. Tomorrow I head to LAX to head for Colorado, and the great chance to see my friends, make some new ones, stop all rumors and if possible see the greatest dogs in the country.

There are a lot of conventions. I attended the International Brotherhood of Magicians a year ago, and enjoyed it. Lots of people who share my hobby, old friends from years ago, and some new friends to find. I am looking forward to the same sort of experience this year in Colorado.   There may be no new tricks to learn, (I didn't lean anything from the magicians either), but there will be surprises in who produced what, some new young handlers to carry on in the future, and some new storries to carry us through another year.

We will learn who will judge next year, who will be running out club for the next few years, and who has lost a bit of hair, gained a bit of weight, and a few of us who have survived the challenge of life. It is going to be a great week, and today is my last day in California.  It can't come too soon.

I understand the process now, Zoe is making sure the Blog ramblings make it to the List. Everyone can get the Blog and only the List members can read the List.  Everyone with a computer, can read the Blog, or anyone can forward it, copy it, or trash it.  I don't know who is more blessed.  I guess it is a personal choice.  I choose to head for Colorado.

Saturday before the Big Show

I got my advance copy of the Red Book at class today.  It is another great edition, congratulation to Liz for the job she does. Liz will be at the National, and it was fun to sit with all those who will be there. Tom and Vivian Brown came by as usual, and they are headed to Colorado as well.  Tedi and I are both healthy so we will be there, and I plan to attend the Educational Seminar, and I was able to get the right to mentor someone. I want to mentor Sharon Avery, who has forgotten more than I ever knew about the German shepherd. But, we know the best jokes to tell each other.

Twyla was there and is ready for the Big Show. She got Tedi to double handle a bitch with her, (but of course neither of them would ever do that, it being discouraged by the AKC). I have been reading the List, which is unofficial for the GSDCA, as I will be this year. Being unofficial means I will go back to what I did on the Blog before Debbie decided to make me official. I am not sure there will be any difference.

I plan to let my fingers do what my brain is thinking and try not to let reason or common sense interfere.  I am looking forward to the Special Class where Dania starts to talk to me, and helps by "spotting" what is going on in the ring. I hope you all enjoy it half as much as I do sending it.

I have about another six hours in the office today, half of Sunday, then on my way. I will look forward to seeing all my old friends, my young ones, and any strangers who are new friends I haven't met yet. Be sure to come by and introduce yourself.

Wednesday

Here we are, but five days away from another national. Lots of intrigue, a bit of hurt feelings, campaigns and worry about the election. But, a great show ahead, and great friends to see again, and some new to make. I will continue to see the good in our organization, the quality in our dogs, and the good cheer of our members.  Join me.

More of the getting ready, another test

Most of us, getting ready for the National cut toe nails, buy some clothes, set the computer to vacation, or talk to the dog sitter. I do much of the same.

I got a root canal, planned a new date for an argument at the Court of Appeals, and wrote a brief for the trial that starts the day I get back.  Except for the root canal, I enjoyed the preparation. I have a new cap, a new jacket, and a new attitude, (thanks Laura), and looking forward to seven more days before the big show.

Let's get ready to humble, and remember, we are all in this for the dogs.

Second try

I am trying the second method that Zoe gave me. I spend about two hours today trying to figure out what to do, then played with the new puppies, came back and read over Zoe's posts to me, and then played with the puppies even more. Now, this is my next attempt. I did send out a message on how to get to the Blog, and it worked for me, now if I can make my nonsense get there, you can all share in my insanity.
