Unless otherwise indicated, each seminar is FREE to Members. The Non-Member seminar fee is $5.

"What the Dog Knows"- an Introduction to Working Canines
Monday, October 9th: 2:00-4:00 PM Founders Room (upstairs) FREE BOOK TO FIRST 100 ATTENDEES.
Cat Warren talks about how working with her GSD cadaver dog, Solo, introduced her to the larger world of scent-detection dogs. They track both victims and suspects, detect bombs, narcotics, and more. What is the science and training behind canines who can find a body located more than 200 feet below the surface of a lake or locate the scent of a soldier from the Civil where she teaches science writing, nonfiction narrative and editing. She is the New York Times Best Selling author of What the Dog Knows: Scent, Science, and the Amazing Ways Dogs Perceive the World. Cat has an admittedly odd hobby - she uses her GSDs to search for the dead.

Breed Standard with Maryellen Kish and David Rinke

A presentation of the written Breed Standard.
Maryellen Kish is the Education Chair for the GSDCA, past Board Member and ROM Chair; breeder/co-owner of the All Time Top Producing Sire in the breed, 2002 Show Dog of the Year (recipient of over 100 Best in Shows). Maryellen is the owner of 3 Grand Victors, Selects, ROMs and Champions. David Rinke is a well-known breeder of many GSD Champions, Futurity/Maturity Winners, Grand Victors and a Grand Victrix and has judged Best of Breed at our National Specialty 6 times.
Certificates of Attendance will be available to participating Judge Applicants. $15/Member, $25/Non-Member.

The Search & Rescue Experience: Trailing and Air Scenting  

Tuesday
 October 10th: 1:00-3:00 PM Outdoors (2016 Sieger Field)
Cat Warren, Jan Meyer and Ed Wolfe will provide an insider's look at searchand rescue training. Cat will narrate the action, from above the search area, while Jan and Ed demonstrate live-scent trailing. Jan Meyeris
President of Gateway Search Dogs, Inc., a Missouri team. Jan has assisted in over 250 life and death searches. She is a Handler, Trainer and Evaluator of SAR Dogs and works for several national search and rescue
organizations. Edward Wolfe Sr.is a member of Gateway Search Dogs, Inc., and has trained and certified four different bloodhounds for missing person and tracking since 2008. Cat Warrenis author of What the Dog Knows, and has trained and worked Cadaver Dogs since 2004.

Regional Club Meeting with Mike Metz and Tim Brown
Tuesday, October 10th: 3:00-4:00 PM Conference Room (upstairs at far end)
Mike and Tim will discuss how to improve membership, profitability and club participation. Handouts include:

  •      Budget Planning Spreadsheets
  •      Templates for Shows/Trials
Mike Metz, a member of the GSDC of Minneapolis-St. Paul, served several terms as President and is currently the Budget and Finance Chair. He is well known as a Mentor and Communicator. Mike and wife, Sheila, own Lindenhill German Shepherds, producing several Selects, a Grand Victrix and Dual Titled Champions. They compete in Obedience, Agility, Herding and Nosework ®.
Tim Brown was President of the GSDC of WI for 8 terms and is currently the Vice President and a Conformation Instructor for 20 years. He is an AKC Breeder of Merit, known for No 3. Select Excellent CH Braunhaus Samurai ROM. Tim and wife, Diane, have shown and bred dogs for over 25 years.

Hands on Breed Seminar with Jim Moses and Maryellen Kish

Tuesday, October 10th: 3:30-5:00 PM Great Hall (Main Arena)
Jim will evaluate the correct German Shepherd Dog structure according to our written standard.
Jim Moses is a legend in the German Shepherd Dog world; he finished his first Champion at 13 years of age. In 1999, Jim was inducted into the Dog Showing Hall of Fame. He handled dogs to over 1,000 Best in Show, including Westminster Kennel Club and the AKC Centennial Show. He handled CH Altana's Mystique to 275 BIS and 30 BISS. She is the all-time winningest dog of all breeds. There has never been a better source for advice or encouragement than Jim Moses, a consummate sportsman.

Kristin Brooks Joneshas been training and showing German Shepherd Dogs in AKC Obedience since 2003. She owns and shows 2x GSDCA Obedience Victrix Heka. At the AKC National All Breed Championship, they finished in the Top 20 the past 2 years. They have even earned an elusive perfect 200 score! Kristin and Heka have earned their OTCH, MACH and TDX.
