2021 National

I always like to finish the National with my impressions.

This was another fun year. It was marred by not having Tedi to tell me what I wanted to do, but there were so many highlights I can't express them all.

It was an interesting adventure to sit with Bob, (the voice of the national) all week. He was so on edge with his entries, but having Martha there made all the difference. Then in Specials his dog led for most of the show, but ended us Number Two Select, which is a great honor for an exceptional dog.

A highlight for me was the Leslie Dancosse award.  Evidently Tedi knew I was going to get it, but never told me. That is what happens after 53 years of marriage.  I always admired and respected Leslie and considered her a friend. To be recognized for trying to help others made me feel great, and I appreciate the recognition.

Going home was a real adventure. My car had to be returned to the Dollar Rent a Car lot before they opened. I got up at 3:00 am and headed to the airport. So I did find the general parking lot took a ticket and pulled in. Then I could not find out where to drop off the car. The shuttle driver led me to the  lot and told me to exit the parking lot, and come around to the Dollar Drop Off Location. When I went to exit, they  would not let me out without a ticket, (which somehow I had lost). So, I just let the car and went to the terminal. I told the shuttle driver that as an attorney they could fight with me after I got home.

Then the flight was late leaving St. Louis. So, I missed my  connecting flight to Orange County. There are four airports in Los Angeles I could go to, and I picked Ontario. I had Tedi pick me up there. They were offering $900.00 for someone to give up their seat and leave four hours later.  I considered it, but decided not to take it, as I was exhausted. I got into Ontario to find they sent my luggage to Orange County. They delivered it last night at 11:30.  This morning I had a bunch of emails saying my flight was delayed, I could re-book another flight, they had changed my seat, etc.

I thought it was a great National. Some fantastic dogs, a lot of my old friends and some new one's too. California did well, and of course I do so enjoy seeing Bob Dresser and Martha, now together. Helen Gleason took me out to dinner with some other friends, including a new person and three others who, who was at her first National from Denver.   How Gail puts that all together, I can't imagine, but I appreciate all she does.

I can't mention all the friends I saw, and those who either didn't make it, or have died. But, the memories will sustain me for another year.

Always a few weeks before the National, I don't want to go. Always a week or two after I am convinced I won't do it again. Then a year goes by, I forget the agony of sitting in my room wondering why I do this, and I head out again.

I did the Blog again, I was told a number of the posts didn't go. I got to see Zoe and Shelia again, and watched them take the Futurity Victor spot.  Our video didn't work, so Linda Bankhead stepped up and send video.  The videographer said he would send the tapes to everyone who bought the video.

I put the names of each bitch on the video as they came in the ring, but when Bob left to show, it got to be too much for the Blog and the announcers.

I hope everyone had a great time. I hope I change my attitude before next year. I hope to get through the 187 emails for the job, and  answer the pleading that came in last week.

I may take back doing the Youth Recognition Fund. I gave it up to someone who evidently never did anything. So, I will think about doing it again, and if so, I promise a better name with initials that mean something. GSYRF, isn't something that rolls off the tip of your tongue.

I wish you all well and thank you for  the opportunity to bring you my impressions of the National.

Juniors AOE

I need a break, so I won't talk about the Juniors or the AOE. If you want to know what is happening call someone who is here.

In the ring

All the dogs and bitches are in the ring. The excitement is palatable, and what a magnificent group. This is an extraordinary breed.  Getting the rest to the ring. I would count them but it is too cold to take off my shoes.

Dave Rinke came by and I gave him the book I stayed up to 3:00 this morning to finish. I have to go buy another to read on the plane home, or I might just sleep.

I am amazed how many of the handler I know, probably 80%.  I Bob were here, he would know most of the dogs and bitches.

And, out they go.  It looks like they are all going out, and I can pick my winners as they exit the ring. Again, I must remind you, no one asked me to judge. A testament to the intelligence of our members.

I see a lot of handlers standing outside the ring. Those should be the bitches. Jack Newton's sister came to visit him one time. she forgot what he called the females,  so she asked, "How are the sluts?".  True story.

Karen at the entrance and Tom is working the book, checking it twice to see who is naughty or nice.  Or maybe not.

Bob, (the voice of the National) isn't here, so I will take his place.  As if anyone could do that. Bob has handled the announcing for 30 years. When I met Bob, we were both selling insurance. He went on to sell appliances at Sears, then to manage the Better Business Bureau. I went on to sell watches, then diamonds on the road, then law school. The years go by quickly and what a great trip it has been.  And, we aren't done yet!

In case you wondered, I se few masks.  I think we all have our vaccines.  If not, we should know by Florida.

Karen is talking to Linda. Now they come into the ring. Karen going one by one to check them in. Linda is sitting in front of me. They keep coming in and more and more. I can't count that high. Linda is here talking to the video person and is going to announce on the streaming who it is. OMG as the kids say. What a fantastic example of our breed.  I was just asked to identify the entries on the video as they are judged, so that should be interesting.

Now Karen checking with Tom and going over the notes to be sure everyone is check in.  You can feel the excitement. I know I keep saying that, but you have to be here to understand.  Everyone who is anyone is in the ring, except me. The footing is fine, not dust. Tom is dividing the groups and talking to Kent, and Jimmie is in the ring, but not handling. He is talking to Karin.

They seem to be grouping around and now some going out of the ring.  OK, I am making an executive decision.  In the first group there are eight bitches. Two groups in there, and there goes the last group.  Now a conference.

Dave came by to ask how long does it take to make groups. There they go the first group, I sit corrected six in the first group. No, seven.

Individuals are done, and off they go. Now they are placed and Lacey in front. Joan Fox is here and off they go, not with Joan, but the bitches and Georgie in second. Now Olivia in third.  Karin goes down the ring and runs her hand over every bitch.

Now the next group.  She is moving along.  Man, it is cold in here. I don' t do well with cold.  A new group of six.  I like her procedure, very efficient and clear what she is doing.  Karin is not taking notes, and another pass.

I won't be typing as much as I am announcing the bitches on the video.

There is a real problem with the video, it keeps dropping out. I am announcing each name on the video which will be available tomorrow. Off they go and Karin looks at them.  Serendipity in front.  And out they go.

I am so waiting for Bob and Michelle's dog. Now the new group. I am putting the names on the professional video which was hacked, and now is going to go out tomorrow.

Here is the next six.  I know Bob Gheglari is trying to get the feed to see his dog, my favorite behind Kierk, but we are doing wht we can.  The kids always get the most applause.

That's the group and around they go.  Sorry for the disjointed notes, I am putting the names on the video. She pulls Art out with lair De Lune. Karin is pulling one or two from each group and looks them over again and there they go while Karin walks and out they go.  I see Ann Schultz walking in the handlers row.  Linda Bankhead is filming it all, so it is going out somewhere. There is a refreshing cool breeze wafting through. It is cold as hell. We are not in California any more. Or as Dorothy said Kansas.

New group of seven, so maybe this is the last group.  Karen walks down the group and says take them easy.  And they are off.  Ann's bitch in front so I see why she is here.

I got Frank Fasano to take over while I took a comfort break, and in comes the next group.  Seven. The word interminable comes to mind.

She walks the group, and tells them to take a trip still dreaming of Grand Victrix.  There they go, and where they stop only Karin knows. She pulls two to the front, Lindsey with Katy.  And Scottie right behind her. Off they go with dreams intact.

Karin is smiling walking to this side while more bitches come into the ring. This has to be the last class.  Six in all. Not one seems to care other than a few double handlers. A lot of chatting, not much dog show watching. Eight in this class.  Scottie just came in with a fantastic bitch, or that is what I saw as he came in.  It is Wolf Creeks Diamond in the Sky of Wonderland. She must be a move up.

This must be the end as the Veteran was there. Karin walks the ring and goes to the end.  Now she says take them around and stop over here. And off they go, Diane Brown leading. Diane looks ten years younger and Karin puts Kent in front and three more, I did like Kent's bitch when I first saw her, but I can't read the number. Now she puts Lennie in second with Olivia in third and they line up and out they go.

Karin and Tom go to the table to discuss what they are going to have for lunch. Kent is yelling to Maria to TAKE THAT BITCH.  The handlers are more excited than the audience.  There seems to be a break while they organize who comes back in, and who is relegated to National Hell.  Pending that, I am going to take a break.

The show stopped.  I don't know why, but here come some bitches.  With my long history of dog shows, I will assume it is the first group.

Karin walks down the group giving everyone a good look,  Do you care?  She says take them around slow and easy and stop over there, walk. Lacey in front.  Karin gives everyone a good look and she says keep going.  Harper rose is second.  My eyes are shot, so don't listen to me.  And they stop.  They pose, she looks.  Karin goes up to them and they take yet another pass. Some applause now.  Karin stops them and takes the last two out to dream of next year, She brings in the next group, Bill Basu is second and  Auttum is in front with Sarendipity. That is an Ann-Isle bitch by Promise Keeper, one of my favorite dogs.

And another pass and everyone gets a good look.  She moves one to third and another pass. It does me good to know I never have to try to do that anymore.  She pulls out five and sends two home for the year.  And yet another group led by Art with Clair De Lune.  That bitch is showing off.  Karin walks the line, not unlike Johnny Cash.

The dogs need to be in shape, not to mention the handlers. It is very quiet here. She takes the last bitch and puts her in next to last.  Karin says take them easy and off they go. How long can adrenaline last?  She is about to pick but waits for the rest of the class.  Keeps five and lets two get out.  Now another group. I think so far she has let eight or do go.  You can go back and see what I said, or just wait to see what happens,. leading the group is Mercedes.  What is the sound of one hand clapping?

And take them again. I do remember when all I wanted was to make the first cut. She moves Gomez to third, and Karin walks the line and says take them again, and slow them down. It is so quiet here, you could hear a guider drop.  And again, she keeps two. At least she is consistent.

Another group, Led by Scott then Lindsay. No, Lindsay is in front with someone I can't find.  She will stay, so does it matter?

Karin gives them a good look and off they go again.  In the front is Katy. She could go all the way.  Seven in the group.  A CHANGE, there are three leaving the ring. And in another group comes.  I may just take a nap. But Karin is efficient, and gives everyone a good look. It is just I am tired. I stayed up until 3:00 to finish a book I was reading to give it to Dave Rinke.  In first place is a number I can't read.  A bit late, but now they are all there. Lennie is in second. and the first bitch is half a ring in front of the rest.

There are a lot of bitches in there and in the last groups. Karin gives everyone a good look, she says slow them down and take them around.

I take back everything I have ever said, or done. She excuses some and seems to have kept four, but I can't be sure.  I have lost any semblance or understanding.  A whole lot of bitches come into the ring. There are ten in there.

Karin knows what she is doing, but hasn't told me. Lacey in front.  Then a bunch more.  I don't know what these ten represent. The Shadow knows.  There is a bread between the first five and the last four.  Maybe an accident. Now they all go around together.  Karin goes to the front, stops at the second bitch, and does the same on each entry. The break is now between eight and nine.  Confusing to me.  Are these her Selects?  If so I must have missed something.  OK, I give up. I just asked Dave if he knew what was going on. She takes some out of the ring, and brings in some more, another nine, with Art in front.  Bill Petersen is blocking his number it is Clair De Lune.  Karin does some arranging.  And off they go.

She kept six and told four to leave, but they all left the ring, and in come more.  There seems to be some confusion in the ring, and Karin eight.  Katy is in front. She kept five and let three leave for the week.

Then there were seventeen. She divides them into two groups.  First is three.  Now is another four.  So, that would be four.  There go four more. Four more. and the rest of them. Some of her firsts are back in the pack. Now she picks and has made this exciting by pulling all but six.  So she has eleven aside.  There go her six losers, I think.  Karin pulls ;out two and tells four she appreciate what they did, but has no further use for them.

Karin looks them all over, and I suspect these are her Selects. She moves Lennie up, and looks over the rest.  She takes around her last three,a nd gives them a good look, and they stack and Karin looks them over She moves her last botch up and lets two go.  And then there were Nine little indians.  And the crowd is wild.  And Karin brings them to line up in the ring. No, Eleven.   She moves Lennie up to fifth.  and Off they go again.  That's it.

And now, it begins

And Here we are again. This is the big day, the main show, the big cahuna, The beginning of the end, the celebration of the breed, and I get to be here. It was 43 outside, and cold in here.

Helen Gleason took me to dinner last night. It was the best Italian restraurant I have ever eaten at.  It was going to be the three of us, Helen has a woman from Iowa with her, and a man and his daughter joined us and Adriana, a young woman from Denver who is at her first National came with us.  I saw Art Sinclair, Bill Peterson, Mike and Kris at another table as we were leaving I got to talk to Frank Fasano, and at the door, Lew Bunch. All my rowdy have come out today.

Lew Bunch just stopped by to tell me he is about to read the names of who passed away, and ring the bell. I used to leave the arena when he did that. Then I used to wear sun glasses, now, hell, I just let the tears flow. It isn't good for my image, but now I am old enough everyone just looks at me and laughs.

Zack stopped by. He has a new jacket, very Western. He says Lindsay dresses him.  I told him she has great taste except in husbands.  Canada Jack is in his booth, and Al Martin had breakfast with me He reminded me when he was a kid and used to come in the ring and handle with me.

Other than those few, the place is empty, and quiet. I appreciate that. there ae some unhappy dog sounds, and I am anxious to get back home and spend time with Kierk.  At night Kierk waits for me to go to sleep and he gets up on the bed, puts his head on my chest and sleeps the night.  I have spent four nights in a motel alone, and I am ready to leave. I have a 6:00 am flight and the Dollar Rental opens at 6:00. I called to ask what to do, and then said just drop off my  car when they open and they will take me to the airport.  Folks in the Mid West don't understand distances  like we do in California.  I won't worry about it until I get there tomorrow and figure it out then,

I see Carl Anderson is now here. Tim, the video man is working his tail off. He works harder than anyone else to make this work, I hope you are enjoying it. What a project it is to bring this to everyone.

Ten to eight, and now people are showing up.

I just had a long talk with Jimmy and found out what is going on.  He is suspended for a year, but will be eligible
to judge our National a few days after he is reinstated.  I got the full story, but I will leave it to him to tell.  I have always found Mr. Moses to be a good friend and a credit to our breed, and am pleased to know him.

A lot of people getting ready to check in. The Judge, here come the judge, (you young people have no idea what I am talking about), said she wants them all to check in, then she will judge the bitches first, then the dogs.  It is going to be a long day.

Ben just walked by and I do feel the excitement in the air. De De just came by, and I am ready to start.  But, it isn't up to me.

Tedi sent me a picture of Kierk on our bed looking for me.  One more day to go. Monday I have to prepare for a deposition on a medical mal-practice case, so I need to get to the office and get to work. When I am gone a week, I am often a month behind.

I will send this, and start the real show posts next!

Open bitches

As god is my witness, I will never go to another National.  Or if I do I won't type, or if I go and if I type, I will drink more or take drugs.

They are in the ring, seven.  How long will that take?

Lennie is trading a number with Scott. I have no idea what that means, and you don't care.

They is a great display of apathy here. I think people just want it done to get to tomorrow and the Specials. Maybe it is just me. After all, it is all about me.

Bob and I are debating who is more bored. they are applauding when no one is going around. I think they are anticipating the last one, lCandle In the Wind. She would be my winner, but mostly for the memory of Diana. She is the last one in the class, so I don't know what Carmen will do.   He gives them all a good look.  Now the go one at a time, and he watches them going away, then as they come up the side.

Let's see what the crowd does with Candle, or Wick as her friends call her. Here she goes with Lennie.  And yes, he brings her to the front.  Bob gave her a major in Maryland. Candle is hard to miss, she is a super star. The handlers are working hard and Carmen is walking down the line.  The crowd is behind Candle.  Now he puts the second in in front of her, and it should be an easy call but he leaves Diamond in The Sky in Front. She is a beautiful bitch. Now, two fighting for Best of Dump.

Now they all go and Carmen gives some direction and takes one  at a time, this is his chance to put Candle up.. No changes.  He looks at them and tells them to take them all. And off theygo and he looks and that's it.

First is Wolf Creek Diamond in The Sky of Wonderland, Second is Wolf Creeds Candle In The Wind, Third is Jaepaul Kaleefs Hope, and Fourth is Donsta's Sandy's  Envtime From Stone.

LONG COAT BITCHES

First is Kenlyn Marquis Molly V Reata, and Second is Peter's Elite A League of Her Own V Seamar.'

On to WINNER'S BITCH

Winner;s Dog

Sharon Avery came by. She is going to be the top breeder is not this year, next.  Cindy Flaut is here not, talking about her entry in Parade of Greats, I think the Stud Dog Brood Bitch presentation.

The Judge, Linda, wants us to give applause to each one. I find that should be a personal decision.

A very satisfying line up, in the center if the ring and the 9-12 Jumps up on Linda, and she tells them to take them around

And off they go, the Open Dog first, a lot of crowd support, Now American Bred, slow and easy, almost a walk.

Linda runs back to her sop, the American Bred dog.

And the rest, you know the classes. Linda wants them at a walk and they are trying, some more than others.

Linda keeps running to her spot. Dampener in front and the 6-9 puppy in third.

There they go and Linda walks over to them and puts another in second and looks them all over, each down and back.

the crowd likes Dampener,  Candyman in second.

No changes.  And they stack and Linda studies them and walks to the end and looks again, and she wants the first two,the Open and the American bred dogs.

Linda puts her hand on her chin and looks them over and continues to look at them and reverses the order, and the Crowd goes wild.  Linda feels the shoulders and looks at them and puts Dampener in front, Linda waves the double handlers to the other side and brings in the rest. this should be it. The crowd sure thinks so. and YES.

WINNER'S DOG IS NORBERGE INERTIAL DAMPENER OF CLAYFIELD  Open

RESERVE WINNER'S DOG IS KUBISTRAUMS CANDYMAN CAN   American Bred

Open Long Coat Dogs

Four in the ring.

I like the efficiency of Linda.      Only three, but they all get a good look.  Besides a long White jacket with black slacks, she has a full glitter vest.

Martha just go here. She is like Tedi and comes later.  I am used to it, Bob has to learn.

The crowd seems underwhelmed by the entries in this class.

1st is Adelhorst Chance At 3 X Charm Vom Jimeni, (We do need to get control of our length of names). 2nd is Falkrigia-Ropaja's Iron Eagle of Adorher, 3rd is Wilron's Boone Von Winsome and 4th is Chimane's Devante.

On to Winner's Dog. It is going to be interesting.  A lot of good dogs.

Open Dogs

She has divided her class and the first four are in the ring.  They take a lap. Bill Basu came by to talk to us, and is now talking to Mike Mentz.  I see George watching from the double section, and off they go, one at a time.

I plan to go out to dinner with Helen Gleason, not that there is anything important about that, but it should beat the pizza in my room I had last night, but that was fine too.

Now the first group goes to the end of the ring, and Linda takes the last one around. And Linda walks with the dog.

She looks at them lined up, walks to the center of the ring and faces one side while the dogs go past her.  On to her second half.  You know, you can hear certain people, who will remain nameless, (Shaning) laugh from anywhere in the ring.

Not much excitement, but each little pocket of support is heard, but not much. I like Lenny's dog 2 Fast 2 Furious. I think Linda is concerned with his going away, and has him do it again.  He sure is impressive from the side.  Now Kerytal's Asher V Cherpa.  It isn't the same without Pat and Celeste.  But, puppies do take preference.  Now the Futurity Victor, Dampener.  If I am correct.  He was just visiting with Zoe and Shelia.  He is a worthy dog.  To me, he stands out in this group.

Off they go, one at a time.  Linda watches each dog while walking down the ring.  Now back to  the next. She is getting in her steps today. Now Scott and then Dampener.  the crowd is waking up and there he goes, the crowd does like him.  Linda satys take them around and come back here, loose lead and slow.

Nice dogs in there. Linda puts her hands behind her back and talks to some of the handlers and says take them again, and off they go.  She has both groups in the ring now and is going to work with her first group.  She takes the black down and back from this group. Either she likes him and wants to be sure, but now she takes Welove Willie Nelson don and back, but sets them aside and brings back her her other group.  The second group,  She sets them aside and does some placing, but it is hard to know what she did, I suspect she excused some dogs, and is taking what is left around one at a time.  Six left.  I don't think they are in order yet, but Dampener is in third, so maybe she did.  2 Fast 2 furious if in first for now.

I do find myself drawn to Dampener.  But all of them are good dogs.

YES Dampener in front.  Now, she takes the rest two at a time.  Now, number one and two, Dampener and 2 Fast 2 Furious.  The Maturity Victor from Canada.  Tampener back in front and I think that is it. YES,

Number one is Norberge Inertial Dampener of Clayfield, Second is Tazzman's 2 Fast 2 Furious, Third was Ravlez's Lebron V Chablis and Fourth is Krystal's Asher V Cherpa.

Winner's dog coming up.

The National, Friday

I have five messages that my posts are not going out, but "they" will keep trying to send them. So, if you are not getting these, be sure to let me know.

I see more people here, ten minutes before show time.  I am sure it is not going to start on time. A lot to talking and laughing and I see Linda is here and looks Judicial.  De De came by and told me about getting the booster shot. There isn't a lot of talk about it here, but no one is wearing a face mask.

We don't have a Canadian flag. That might be because while Canada allows Americans to come there, we still have close our borders to them pesky Canadians. Bob (the voice of the National), is here.

Linda has on a long white coat. Some folks are sitting ring side, I think those are new judges. Al Martin is talking to Linda, probably telling her what to do.

Butch came by to give us a walkie talkie.  He finally retired and is talking to us about doing the temperament test for the Working People.  Shannon and Al just walked by.

Linda came by to sit with us, and then Joan joined her. They are two beautiful women and so intimidating. Joan has a new hair do, and she said she did it herself and looks great.  Linda is wearing another set of knee high boots. Very Kinky.

Novice dogs one entry, so the winner by quality is Krystal's Requiem CGC TKN.

Bob got a walkie talkie, so not we can figure out what is going on. Martha Rinke walked by and John and Vickie are talking to us, and thought they might be late, but they only missed one dog.

On to Bred-By. Too much laughing for a dog sho9w. Seems like people are in a good mood so far. Wait until some get dumped and we will see if they are still laughing.

Linda goes to the center. I don't think I have ever see anyone have this much fun.  Cindi Tellefson in in front with Diango and Mikke with Anaton B Cherpa.  Of they do, a class of two.  the all black in front and two actually nice dogs.  Now calling for American Bred Dogs.  Linda  looks over the two, and off they go..  She stands in the middle of the ring, and turns away and waits for them to come in front of her, walks towards them with her hands behind her back and has then take them around now with Mike in front.  And she gives it to Mike, over the Black with Cindi.  First is Krystal's Anton V Sherpa and Second was Shadow Acres & Chopae's Diango Unchanged @ Shanty.

In come the American Bred Dogs. Ten in there. Linda divides them into two groups, five in each. She didn't do it in Bred By it would be a group of one.  Carl Anderson came by to talk. And Georgie takes his dog down and back. Zoe came by and said I got an award at the meeting, I didn't go, I bought a pizza and took it to my room. Did you know if you tilt a pizza box while it is hot, it all slides to one side?  Now another dog, I guess I won't say that for ten entries.  I hate to be redundant.  I now will watch the dogs.

It's the second group in there now,  More of what went on before.  Nancy McDonald came by, and i just saw a Donald son in the ring, no relationship.  Now Bill with a Pharoah son.

OK, there is no way you would know it, but I took a break and Linda didn't wait for me, and did her class.  AMERICAN BRED.

First was Kubistraum's Candyman,,Second wasHylock's Dean Winchester Von Palamor, Third was Windfall's The Comeback Kid, and Fourth was Hessen's Dark Phoenix of Kenlyn.

The Open Dogs are in the ring.

Friday at the National

Another day, another group of winners, and all the rest.

It is about an hour before show time, and one person in the ring working a dog. Tim is her setting up his equipment to do the video, and I guess it is working.

The first day for the show before the show was clear and the sun shined. I was amazed to see blue sky with no smog, and I got more sun than I should have.  Every day after that was strange with water falling from the sky. We don't see that in Los Angeles, so it was strange to actually use windshield wipers.  It did get a bit cold, but not anything like Kentucky.

They took away one of the chairs up here, and so Zoe had no place to sit. I may sneak one back. It is crowded, but we needed a place for Bob, me and Martha.  If Tedi were here, I think I could convince them to give us another chair.

I got to sit with Dave and Martha Rinke for a bit yesterday after the show. The handlers brought in some of the dogs to practice and we were able to get a preview of what will happen today. Each day gets more exciting with more enthusiasm from the crowd.  Then in Specials, it gets more interesting.

Gail does a job that can't be explained. There are so many details that have to come together, and she does it, with little stress, or so it seems.  I know there are some who want to complain, but overall it is working.  Still quiet half an hour before the show.

I did have trouble with the band width, or at least that is what Zoe told me.  I think I lost one class, but take my word for it, they were all judged.  I don't think too many were missed, and both Carmen and Linda got the best up to the front.  There was no wasted time, and for young pups, they worked well.  I did see some temperament problems but I expect those will be worked out by the older classes today.

I admit missing the office, and each day seems to have more problems. I will be glad to get back and try to solve them.  Next year, if I do come, I may come in later, so as to miss less law crap.  I mean law work.  Martha being a retired Judge and I do talk about the courts a bit.  I am sitting as a Judge two to three times a week now, and we can talk shop.

Here come the ribbons, and some of the workers. Tim is still setting up the cameras and checking the sound systems. We had someone sing the anthem yesterday and I guess she is doing it today and tomorrow.  I will let others give their opinions of live singing vs recorded music.

The food is limited, but OK.  Bob and I had the hamburgers and they were quite good.  Sort of a limited choice, but it worked for everyone. There are a bunch of fast food joints half a mile away.

I am going to send this, take a break, and I will be back with Novice Dogs,(2), then Bred By (4)  then it all begins.

Be kind to each other, and if not, do not leave any clues.

12-15 Bitches

We stat with a bitch sable, a Pharoah daughter. I like her, but I seem to be partial to sables today.

They are about to do the Chuck A Duck.  I went to get lunch, and so I will just give you the winners.

12-15
1st is New Era's Twilight Zone of Breauhausen, 2nd is Norberge's Sil Vous Plait of Clayfield, 3rd was Clayfield's Ces La Vie of Norberge, and 4th was Hylock's Centerfold.

15 to 18 Months

1st Breal-Jogra's Nina Della Bella, 2nd Kenlyn's Celcsea Lately V Reata, 3rd was Heinerburgs Amazing Grace. and 4th was Falkrigia-Roprja's Satin N Steel of Adorher.

Take my word for it, nothing interesting happened.  We are done with the dog judging for ;the day.  Now a bunch of stuff that matters not.  I would tell you if anything important happened. Take my word for it.

Puppies

Vickie Bemont came by. She is looking so slim and beautiful.  She told me so. now she wants me to take out the part about her telling me so.

Only five in the class, I hope she doesn't break them into groups.  Lin Furgison came by and they are working dogs.

I took a break and Linda made a decision. First was Reata's Viking V Kenlyn, Second is Signature's John Wick, Third was Krystals King of the Seven Seas, Fourth was Tonor's Matt Dillon, and now the next group.

It's 12-15.  All five are in there.  Kristan Sherman is doubling Michael's dog.  He looks good and another of those Cherpa influenced dogs. I do miss Celeste.

Linda walked the ring one end to the other,  She washed her hands, and now she goes back the five with dreams intact. Shelookes them over stacked and takes her time.  Now she waks down the line, touching each dog. Now she does it.

First is Krystal Adelhorst Sundance Jesse V Usher, Second is Frankenhause Firethorn, Third is Golden Breed's Mr. Moses, and Fourth is Frankenhaus Afterburner.

There was  a biting incident and a two hour bench show committee to find no charges. One finger got bit.

Now a new group, She broke the class in half, two groups of three.  Don't ask.

Adriana Morrison just came to sit with us, and is watching the coming and going.  Linda is doing her thing, and now runs to the other side to watch another individual.  Debbie Stern is there, and they are going into the bitches with no break. Linda still judging.

Now she moves the one group of three. and they take a lap.  It is quiet here.  The reserved seats are full and soon they will start kicking people out. More individuals. Linda walks to the end of the ring and now they go around, three, half her class. We need to stop 12-15 and 12 - 18.  There should be a 12- 18 class.  But, again, no one asked me. Now the next group of three. I think Olivia had the best dog, and is doing the best job of handling  Pam will be the new President and I think Debbie will be glad. A dog happens to want to play and tried to snap at the dog in front of him  Not serious.

Each of them in front one time, for three trips.   Now she keeps two. Olivia, she goes over the croup, and Scottie behind.  Linda has a great smile. And that's it, first is Ethan of Ch-My TKN,  Second is Kiedrow's Foolin Around and Fell in love, third is Bloomsberry's Christmas Time ATT, and fourth is Valle Vue's Chief V Woodside.

On to 5-9 Puppy bitches.

The National on Thursday

Half an hour before show time.

I thought Bob was a bit nervous yesterday. I think it might have been his Futurity Dog and the Seminar.  He did a great job, and his dog was found and went fifth.  He is going to be a winner, the dog, not so much Bob.

Carolyn Martello is here and Gail is in the ring with her phone.  I saw Bill Basu here. Bob, (who know him), is here now.  He seems more relaxed.  Tim the video photagrapher is working with me. I have worked with him for a couple of years.

Linda came by and wants to keep things moving.  HERE WE GO!

Linda Bragg-workman sang the opening of the show. Kenny Cunning came by and the ring is starting to come alive. There is Channing.  And people are showing up.  Tom Mesdaag asked to start the club presentation. There is Joan Fox, proud mother. Georgie is here and they are trying to get stuff done.  The three clubs came by and walked the ring.

It's time for the 6-9 puppy dogs.  Art Sinclair is here now, but not in the ring.   Todd Vigor is here.  Paula Cook isn't. Martha Simonette is here, and is a great antidote for Bob.

They are in the ring. Autom in the ring.  George with Michael Cheeks puppy.Kareena is in there with a puppy that already took a dump.  This is going to be a great class. I see three I already like. Jimmie is in the ring, outside, to double his main squeeze.

Linda split them into two groups, the first four with Autom, George Kareena and Steve LaRossa..  The first one is not going to stand.  It may  just be too early, and maybe he will calm down in the future. But, today is not his day.  Michael Cheeks dog, and stand just fine.  George does a great job. Carmen is up here now, and agrees with me that Bob did a great job.  That's a real nice dog.  Now Steve with a puppy that is not happy. Linda tried to get him over it, and there he goes, down and back.

Now the four. together and out of the ring.  Now the second group.  Only three.  I see Mike is here and waiving to people.  Mike Avery is here with his camera.  Cindy Tellifson walked by, and Linda does her thing.   Lindsey is in the ring, and Zack is standing behind Linda, but not calling the puppy.  Good Rush, a nice pup Now Lenny with a Cherpas Petty Cash.   In the first group I liked two, the only two that didn't spook. Of these three, I like two. That is four to place.  Al Martin is sitting with us.  Now, one at a time.  Linda does want them slow.  Ann Schultz is walking by and Linda brings them all in. and there go the last three, while the first three, one was dismissed, stack.  She has six to pick from.  Now George comes back so I guess they are all looking like they might win, for a little while.   She pulls one out, and Lindsey is handling and Linda says something to Zack.  There they go as a group.

I think that is it, abd tge criwd agrees and that is it. First is Carlisles Gold Rush of Norberge, Second iskiedrow's You time Krystal, third is Fame's Bare No Limits, and Fourth is Trafalgar's Bad Boy. From here on high at the announcer's table, that is how I saw it.

More to come, now the 9-12 puppy dogs.

Thursday

Here I am, alone in a large arena.  I like coming early, as I have said every year.
It is just Tim and me. He is setting up all the audio equipment and we have been talking about his business.  I told him I haven't heard any  complaints, and that is all either of us ask for.

Bob,(the voice of the National) Dresher gave what can only be called the perfect seminar on judging. If those who attended would do what he suggested, we could all show at all-breeds and expect good judging. I don't know who listened, but he was just great.

The DM seminar was not as satisfying. All they did was say after millions in research they identified the problem, how to breed a carrier to a non-carrier, and that you should not eliminate every carrier as it would destroy the breed. They have no treatment, no cure, no answer other than when the dog shows signs at about 8 years old, to put that dog down.  I wanted some answers, but heard none.  There seems to be no result other than knowing what is going on.

I see Jack Kilgore is here from Canada, and I understand you can fly into the US, but not drive. He is doing Specials in Canada next year, so I would think he watched the Maturity carefully.

The judging was reasonable and efficient. We has some down time, but neither Carmine or Linda went over.  It was fun to see how much Linda enjoyed what she was doing, and seemed to be having fun.

Gail Stifferman is here now, checking the tables. I guess each section of tables and chairs have a designated person, so it should be interesting.

Today is the puppies, 6-9, 9-12,12-15 and 15-18

Michael Cheeks was here talking and I reminded him that Tedi got him to send his dog to the National when he wasn't going to do it, and got his grand victor.  Zoe is here now, and talking with me.

Lenny is in the ring, and Zack and Lindsey are working dogs now.

I will sign off now, as some people want to talk.  More to come.

Amateur Maturity Bitch

The handler is at his first dog show. The crowd loves it, and he is doing a great job.  the Winner is Ranita's Pandora's Box.  I don't know the handler, but he should be proud.

I have the booth to myself and everyone has deserted me. I have to admit, I like that.

Lots of milling around and they need to get the puppies in the ring

4-6 month puppies. Two dogs and four bitches in the catalog, let's see who shows up at the arena.  Big stall for now.  OK, they started the class. Six entered and five in the ring

Al Martin is sitting with us now, and I always enjoy seeing him.  He said the surface was great.  I am wrong, there are nine in there, everyone that is entered.  I don't know how you judge these little miniature dogs.. They are way below the standard for size.  Linda is doing her best and smiling. They are cute, but how do you pick the cutest.

Everyone gets a ribbon. Great lesson for the young puppies.  they take another pass after getting their ribbons  I don't know what is going on, and now the entire group goes around.

She is picking a winner and Best Opposite. I guess I won't try to say who owns the puppies, but they all had fun.

As did I.

Tomorrow is another day.

Yet more national

At this point I start to get tired of a dog show. But Linda is in to pick the Best in Maturity.

I think as much as I like seeing my friends, it is balanced with who I miss. I don't see Twyla, and Celest, and I know they are not coming. Tedi won't be here, and I don't see Rita.  I miss so many who passed on. I am wearing the jacket Gail Sprock gave me, I only wear it to the National.  It is a mix of joy and sadness, and not just the people but also the great dogs that are gone.

I think Linda is going to have a difficult decision. These are nice winners and I have an opinion.  But, I think it best I keep my mouth shut which is not easy for me. She walks out with the ribbons and applauds the winners, scratches her head and give it to the bitch,.  OK, I admit it, that would have been my choice.

Now, on to the puppies. Do you care?

How many Best Puppies from the National have gone Select?  Have any gone Grand Victor Victrix?

Back and blogging

Zoe came by, but it is working so here I am.

Linda is doing the Maturity bitches.  I just talked to Helen Gleason, and so we are having dinner tonight.  Last night I walked to a Mexican restaurant.  Big mistake. I got food poisoning, and so I won't go back. I feel fine now.

Marie is out there now, and and an all black.  The crowd likes that one.  Lots more bitches.  Three groups.  Second group in the ring, I took a break to eat.  Now I am back and Linda is still judging.  She is pulling her winners and letting the rest go.  I like her procedure, and I see what she lives.

She has her winners up front, and there they go.  a good crowd reaction, and Linda looks them over and a second pass and she tells them to stop.  Riverrocks Serendipity V Anne-Isle in front.  She staysd in front and goes down and back. Nice bitch and now Lennie with Signature's Harper Rose. I think they are as they came in. She takes them down and back, and they are her keepers, but still in order.

The crowd is now loud and Linda applauds her group.

NOW SHE PLACES THEM. FiRST IS Serendipity.   My god is it loud in here. I think after lunch everyone woke up.

I think this is it, and the crowd goes wild.  And YES that's it.  Number one is Riverrocks Serendipity V Anne-Isle, second is Ch Silkouetta"s Run For The Roses, third is Kenlyn Marquos Oops!.  Fourth is World Creek Candle In The Wind.

Now Best in Maturity then puppies,

My bad

My computer locked up.  All the Maturity dog classes were lost, and I was so profound.

Number one was Clayfield's Gizmo V Eklectic Jimeni, Second was Ch New Era's Comet, Third was Tacora's Stingray of Foothills and fourth was Kenlyn Marquis Sultan Of Swong Seven Hills.  Bob's dog looked great. What a stallion dog and was an easy pick. But again, no one asked me my opinion.  It shows how smart you all are.

Linda is doing Maturity Bitches.  She has divided it into five.  And they go around.  I went to the office to see why my computer wasn't working, but it is,  I will try to send this while Zoe is here.

The show goes on

Amateur Futurity.  Seems dogs are not here, Just two in there, important to the owners and handlers. I guess not dogs showed up.

It's getting nervous in the announcer's booth,  Both Bob and Martha are looking for their Maturity dog coming up.

I missed who won, Bob and Martha are too tense for their Maturity dog.

A native American goes to his psychiatrist and says all he can think about is tents and wigwams. Over and over and it is ruining his life.

His doctors says, wait for it................................. "You are two tents."

Bob and Martha give new meaning to intense right now. It reminded me of that old joke.

They awarded Breeder of the Year, and no one showed up.  It was who won Best in Futurity and Sheree Moses, Lauren Figler, M. Liewelyn, or J. Hamilton were here to accept it for Kaleef's Mercedes.  What if they held a dog show, and no one showed up?

On to the Maturity dogs.

best in Futurity

Linda is looking at the two and puts the dog up front, and off they go.  I like them both, and equally quality.   Now the bitch. IT'S THE BITCH.

Best in Futurity is Kaleef's Mercedes, and the Best Opposite is Norberge's Innertial Dampener of Clayfield.

Futurity Bitches

It seems this is going to the List, which I haven't read in years. I hope it is going to the Blog, but what do I know?  Thanks Ed for the quote.

Linda askes that you do not race the dogs, and in the individual, do not call your dogs.

In they come, one at a time.  And they are all in there. I don't like what the ground is doing. the dogs don't seem to drive off their rears.  It seems to be all of them.

I don't like being isolated like this, but it is a nice quiet booth.  It is hard for people to talk to us. Dave Rinke did stop by and ask about Tedi. I have a strong suspicion that people prefer her to me. I understand. There goes Kent with his double brush.  Four breeders for Mercedes, and she takes her down and back again.  Damn, that's a real nice bitch.  Now Olivia with Smile at Miller Time.  Georgie is in the ring, I guess I should start to call him George, but I remember when Lamar was teaching him to handle. He sure did a great job.  Smile goes down and back in another direction, a sable the crowd likes, but she is having too much fun.  Scottie has Rolling a Seven, great name.  Nice set up for the crowd. Tables at ring side, and it looks like nine to a table.

Christine Granger is walking by and looking anxious, and now I see her bitch in the ring Intoxicated.  Down and Back just like the rest.  People seem to be having more fun talking to each other than watching the show.  Lennie is working one of the tables from inside the ring.  Not a lot of crowd support.

Now Just a Dream, good name for an entry, and all the double handlers move around.  Lindsey has her and her husband isdoing what he is required to do, double with his number badge on.

Now one at a time.  Working the first group of five.  Linda is giving a direction and there they go out the ring, and now, the second group.  Lennie with Bell Bottom Blues.  So few of these bitches follow through in the rear. That may be our problem de jur.  Now La bartola VonLoar of Karizma.  Now Nancy with Black Betty.  No, she is not a black.,

I took a break, you don't need to know why. she now has six left, and working them.  Rolling a Seven in front with Scottie.  Now they go again with Mercedes in second, and she keeps them that way. and Off They Goi. And that is it.

First is Kaleef's Mercedes, Second is Ranita's Against All Odds, Third is Signature's Cargo-PP and Fourth is Signature's Beyond the Phantom of Springrock.

I talked to the people for a while, and now Best in Futurity.

Now it begins Futurity Dogs

I am sitting with Bob, (the voice of the national).  Lost of people here already and in go the Futurity dogs. I did get to say hello to Dave Rinke and Martha, and Martha is here talking to Bob. Carman is doing dogs, and they are all out there nine in all. I see the handlers are going for the fist pass.  There they go, some great young dog.   I like the sable Bill Basu has, Winchester.

He takes the first out and back, The Comeback Kid. I see Ben in the ring to couple, outside the ring.  Not that many here yetf, so the sound of one hand clapping. Now Olivia with Cargo.  Erin Ellis is standing in front of us.

We are up in a booth, so no candy for you. Now Lenny with Beyond the Phantom. I see Debbie working the show. Gail did another great job.

Christy in the center now.  Mid West Best in Futurity Initial Dampener.  Nice dog.  Now Candy Man with Kelly.  Art Sinclair is standing front of us and Against All Odds in the middle.  There are more people here than normal for the Futurities.  I went with Ann Schultz to pick up Carmin this morning. I know I spelled her name wrong, but I don't care. I noticed I have been doing this for 14 years so I no longer care about offending people.  As an attorney I do that all the time.

Bill Basu has the sable I like.  Winchester.  I said that already, but I don't mind repeating.  A lot of milling around. Mike Mentz is here, and talking to us.  I think this is going to be a big National.  I don't know the entry, but someone must know. Cindy in the ring with a black, Heat of The Night.  And now he walks down the line.

And take them around.  Now, one at a time. Each dog has their own little pocket of applause. The crowd likes Dapener.  A large number of good dogs, and Now The Sable.

Carmine bring up Dampener in front, and he is unimpressed with the sable.  But, no one asked me to judge, so I understand.  This surface is strange. Is ripped cloth and sand. Soft, but the dogs don't show to the best, in my opinion which is all that matter here.

Now he looks at the rest of them, and I would have loved to see them on sod  Now fighting for a placing.  Now looking to see who goes best of dump, the last three.  Channing, and Cindy with Kelly. Mike Metz came by..  Now they line up, that may be it. They stack with dreams, and he pulls the out, the first tow, and off they go. Now second and third.  Dampener in front and I think that will be the winner.  Now walking the line, and now up front Avery's dog in front.

That's it. Number one is Norberge's Inertial Dampener of Clayfield, Two is Rainita's Against All Odds, third is Signature's Cargo -PP and fourth is Signature's Beyond the Phantom of Springrock.

Now on the bitches.

The Blog

I can't believe I have been doing this for 15 years. Well, 14, since I didn't go to the National last year, in deference to Covid.

I came alone this year, Tedi stayed home to deal with a one puppy litter, and might come in Friday for Specials. That means I can be up at 12:30 to give my latest thoughts.

I see some new, (read young), people this year. It might signify a growth in the sport, certainly we hit bottom with dog shows of 10 or less. The show in California with 60 reminded me of what they used to be, and a class of 17 in the Show before the Show looked like the old days.

It looks like Bob (the voice of the national) and I are in a booth isolated from the madding crowd. That just means I don't have to spend $1,000 on candy like in the past. It also means I don't get to talk to those I want to talk to, so I need to work that out.

The facility is a National. Not fancy, big, open and will be interesting to see how the footing is. I was told it is cloth and sand.  I walked on it, and it is sort of soft, and might be great for the dogs.

Of course I am watching for Zeke. I think he is in the Maturity, but I am not sure. I know he will be in Specials.  I don't know if Michele is here. I know how hard it is to get away with a court schedule, but I hope she will be watching. He is a fantastic dog, and one I do hope to get to judge some day.

I guess I will go back to my book now, and stop bothering people with this drivel.  I don't know if that was spelled correctly, but nothing indicates it wasn't.

More tomorrow, or to be accurate, later today.

National

Now that I know this works, other than it is called the 2018 National, I will try to keep everyone up to date.

I looked at the ring and it appears to be shredded cloth mixed with sand. It is soft and should show off the dogs.

I did sit with Gloria Birch. She doesn't look like her latest pictures on facebook, but it was fun to talk to her. She was on her way to White Castle for lunch. It is where I had dinner last night.

I talked to Kenny Cunningham, George Berstler came by to say hello, and I was glad to see Kent is getting his mustache back. He just didn't look the same.

I saw so many of my friends, so I will leave that to tomorrow.

More to come,

Evan

The Blog

This is my first attempt to post to the Blog. Each year I need to be retrained on how to do it by Zoe. She said use the above, so I will t;ry.

The show before the show is over. If anything thinks this breed is in trouble, you should have seen the quality.

I got to sit with Jack Ogren, and Carolyn Martello, so that was fun.  I  saw a Donald daughter, I liked she went Reserve.  I won't try to list them all, as I am going to try to go eat.

I was asked to help Ann Stolz pick up Carmen at the airport, and so I missed the Specials, but I will see them Saturday.

I will try more later, if this works.  If not, blame Zoe.

"Orders are to shoot in a case like that," he said. "The sentry shot." He pointed down to the grooves in the shoulder at the edge of the drop. "This is where he went off." A hundred feet down in the canyon a small coupe was smashed against the side of a huge granite boulder. It was almost upside down, leaning a little. There were three men down there. They had moved the car enough to lift something out.
"We don't have to talk. Just give me the money and go the other way."
Bill Chess picked up a flat stone and tried to skip it across the water, but it refused to skip.
"I've got plenty of swift, if that's what you mean," Degarmo said. "But I want this guy talking." Patton looked at Degarmo, looked at me, looked back at Degarmo and spat tobacco juice in a long stream to one side.
