6-9 Puppy Bitches

Not since Rita have I seen such a beautiful woman in the ring.  Pam is wearing a form fitting flashy silver dress and has jewelry in her hair.

Oh yes, in come the bitches.  Dan Dwyer is here, and he and Ed were sitting together.  Carman is by talking to the Kishes.

There is a lot of flash with these bitches,  The first group is divided and I like what Diane has. And off they go again.  Pam is looking at each one as they pass the white wall. Sharon came by and was taking all the Almode Joy candy bars.  Lenny goes around the ring.

I am officially bored. Thank god today is the last day. IT ISN'T THE LAST DAY?

And they go around, now Jeff is there with a cute bitch.  A coat if I am right, but a top quality pup anyway.  Now Kent. George came by to talk to Mary Ellen.  Kent has a winner here.  It is There is a Time at Wildwood.  Off he goes and yes, I like that little girl, and going slow he is best.  Now Mike with My Maria Of Mazerick.  A Man U Man daughter. Another one excused. I think that makes three so far today.  I wonder if we are developing a temperament problem?  I know the locked hocks don't seem as common, (lots of them), and I wonder if this might be the new problem for the breed.

Captivia ( of the gas dog) is talking to Sargent Poitras.  I had her look at the dog's Silver Star.  I don't know if she knows what that means.

Now the second group of the first class.  Pam looks great in the ring. Ashley Miller is in the middle with Elara V Laslar Windfall.  Again, the dam is a bitch with Asgard in her name. So, she is  my favorite just because of breeding. Never mind the quality of the bitch. Actually she is a nice one.  Pam gives everyone a good look, and I think this might be a Junior in with Godiva.  Another being excused.   It has to be a heart ache. Even for us old folks.

Now Olivia is in there with Jessica Rabbit.  A top quality sable.   She acts up, but is still a good one.

Now Nancy with Queen of Hearts. Another animal with Asgard in the breeding.   That is a super star.  I doubt Pam will miss her.  Now the last in the class or this group and she says to take them around and off they go.  All  bitches, with female handlers too.Six of them.

I think in this group, Nancy's bitch shines.

NANCY TO THE FRONT!

And, Pam sends them out,and brings in the next group.  Six new ones to consider. Two trips arround.  Pam came over to get candy.  She claims it was for her and Jane as well, but I notice she only picked what she likes.

Dark Persuasion is excused.

Now the next one.  Calypso is in there and very excited, but sound.  Nice and slow.

She Was Born to Run is in there now.  I like the name.  A lot of nice bitches in there.  Sargent Patrias is leaving, what a thrill to have met him.

Now Alex is in there with another nice bitch.  Lenny is in the ring, and the bitch looks good but needs training.  Now they walk and there is a real difference in what is in there. I am sure Pam is thinking what to do, now the second pass, and off they go.  Not walking now.  Alex to the front, and Pam wants to talk to Tom and I don't think she likes any of the other.  Now she puts them in lines.  Three rows in there.

Pam has to chose, and it isn't easy, she goes to the center, and there goes the first group with Kent in front.  Walking, if you can call what Kent is doing walking. Kent to the front, now Diane, and Mike only.  Off they go to keeper.

Now this group with Nancy in front.  Pam has them lined up right and she sends Nancy and Olivia with Oster to the keep group.

The third group and she keeps Alex, and so then there were eight.  No, one tried to sneak in,, but Pam corrected him. Seven, magnificent.

Kent in front, then Diane, Mike and Nancy. Pam goes to the middle and now walks to the front and says, take them around.  Kent says "slow" and there they go. I do like Mike's bitch but she is in third.  They stop, and Pam looks at them and has her hands behind her.  She is rightin front of me,and so are the doublehandlers. Pam has a big smile on her face and tells them to head out, I think for the  last time.  Off they go and Pam gives every one a look and moves Alex to second, and Diane in third.  Now Mike to third and Pam stands back and the crowd goes wild with Nancy in front and KIent, Alex and Mike.  THAT'S IT.

1.   Queens of Heart v Kodiacridge.
2.   Kenlyn There's A Time at Wildwood
3.   Gomez La Malinch Arguimbau Vonzo of Karizma
4.   Winsome's Guilty Pleasbear v Lonestar

Captivia got the winner's for me. What a great help.

12- 15 Dogs

There is a lot of rumbling with no dogs in the ring.  Karen Wagner is walking by as is Bill Leonard.  Not together. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Don Knight is here and nodded to me.  I guess that is all I get, Liz is much more friendly.  Roxanne came by and is with Gloria.  Cappy and Gloria talked about leaving to make sure their home is OK but decided to stay. DD Ardoin and I were talkiing, and now he comes by to find a seat.

The class winners are taking a lap for the cameras, and so we have a lull in the action. I see Linda Bankhead, and somehow Dave Rinke sneaked and is sitting in front of me. And now Joan Fox is here in a red white and blue jacket.

In come the 12 to 15 dogs.  Cindy in front, then Jeff and then Diane Paul and Kent, Mike and now George.  Jeff ends the class.  And, off they go.

I like the big sable in second and George has a good looking dog.

Now the individuals.  And, not sense repeating myself, but the same thing is being done with each dog. Jeff is out there with Dream On, and if you have ever gone to a dog show, you know what is going on.  Gary, (Dreaming of being President) came by with his god child.

Now Mike with a gasoline dog.  It is an Exxon son, so Celeste is in front of us.  down and Back twice now. He stands and off they go, Mike on one end of the lead.  A crowd favorite.

Now Kent.  Sharon Avery is talking to us, she is sharing food with everyone.  Donna Calabrezi is here doubling her dog.

Captivia, Pat and Celeste's daughter is sitting with us now. She is a great kid, and gets to sit at the announcer's table.

Jeff is out there and his wife, Jessie is one of the prettiest women I have ever seen. They are great people and Jeff will become a top handler.  Not the right dog today.  Two dogs out of this class, mostly a bad age.

Jimmy is talking to Dave in front of me and off goes the class six left.  Halley is here now, and talking to us.  She is doing the seminar on Monday.  John looks them over and stops to look at the gas dog.  He wants them to take another pass.  This is a difficult class. John leans over and pull Mike to the front. Kent is right behind.  John tells Mike, One Time.  And off he goes, at a full run. They stop and John loks them over.  John stops them and moves George in front of Kent.   Mike still in front with the gas dog,and John has them walkk and he stops them and there they are, AND    yes

1.   Windfall-Cherpa's Illuminator of Hickoryhill
2.   Eoofdifrd-Once Upon a Time
3,   Eagle Valley's Country Boy
4.   Shatzmar's Midnight Madness FDC

9-12 Puppy Dogs

In come the class. To be honest, I lost everything I wrote. I did say hello to Jack Kilgore and Dean Wylie.  and now Lenny is in there with You Can't Handle The Truth.

Twyla came to talk to me, and Tedi is here talking to her. I guess they didn't think I had enough to do.  Off Lenny goes and takes his dog slow. A big handsome male.

Now a big sable who loves the judge and his name is America's Patriot.  I saw Dan Dwyer for a few words, and that is a real dog looking dog, deep body and clean coming and going.

Paige Kiedrowski is in there with Change the World. She is going to be one of the top handlers soon, if she isn't now. I like the way she shows a dog. This is a nice standard black and tan.  And around he goes.

Now Cindy comes out with Gift of the Magi.  I have liked this dog since he was a young puppy.  He is built right and owned by Lori Stewart another close friend, and generally nice person, and off he goes.  A good pass.

Now Kent with Casino Royale.  Lindsey came by to get some candy. I think if I didn't have candy, no one would talk to me.   He is a good one, but not going to win it all, but no one asked me.  The competition is awful high.  Off goes he group.

He pulls Cindy to the front, and I am so far, two for two.  He puts Kent in third and Lenny in second.  Gift of the Maji in front and looking good. And now, on to the other group.

Zack is in front with Jingle Bell Rock. I know that to be a great puppy, let's see how he does.  I think he will be the one to beat this class.

Jeff is in second with one of the 437 Cherpa dogs they brought to the National.

There goes Zack and the crowd likes that dog.

Now the Cherpa dog, Under Orders.  Exxon produced some real stallion type dogs, and seems to give them a presence. Celeste never stops moving and the crowd likes that dog too.  Anita just stopped by and said hello to everyone except me.

Now out for her individual is Roc of Stone. Don Stack owns this dog, and real good looking dark black and tan.

Now a sable.  Heart of Stone.  It is too cold in here.  And next is Zero. He is a Bi. Twyla agrees with me, so I feel save saying so .
Down and Back and around.

And, last in the class is Olyvia.  She has Black Hawk.  Another dark dog. I don't think we have a pigment problem in the breed.  I see Ed is here with Dan Dwyer, I will go talk to him. Gloria and Cappy are here. and giving hugs.

I just went to talk to Ed and while I was gone the Cherpa dog went to the front with Cindy right behind.  As I said before, I make a claim since his damn is a daughter of our Champion Asgard Jill.  And off they go, the judge says, "drop the lead" so instead he lets it loose.  John Moved Lenny up to fourth, and this is what is left and YES, the Cherpa dog wins the class, Cherpa-Coastline Under Orders.  Way to go Celeste, (and Pat, if anyone cares).

1.  Cherpa-Coastline Under Orders
2.  Norberge's Gift of the Magi of Clayfield
3.  Clayfield Jingle Bell Rock of Norgerge  (Yes, they are littlermates)
4.  Caradoc s You Can't Handle the Truth

Twyla gave me the winners. she is doing a great impression of Bob (Voice of the National) Dressher.

6-9 Males

We got through the opening ceremonies, and I only broke up one time.

Lots of people here now and milling about. I got the speakers so we can hear.  Michael Avery. I see Rita just got here and is talking to Jane Kerner, who is sitting right in front.

I just lost most of what I said, but in come the 6-9 puppy dogs.

One thing about the National is they don't have small classes. Kathy Potter is sitting with Bobbie Kindy, and Joyce Eberts next to her, and the dogs keep on coming,  I see bill Basu with his entry and he is at the back. Martha Rinki just came in, and she looks younger than last year. Is that possible?  Now in comes Kent to end the group. Debbie Stern just came by.

John is counting them and Tom is with him making notes and George just walked by.  It is a bit cold, but maybe it will warm up.

John is holding a notebooks and tells them to take a pass around. Gail Stiffleman is setting  up chairs for Mary Ellen Kish.  They take a pass, and now they stop.  I missed it, but John has a group of seven now.

The first put comes out with Greg.  A very dark black and tan. Twyla just got here.  Sharon Avery came by. Tom gave me a walkie talkie, but I have no idea how to work it.  If the handlers are listed in the catalogue, I can probably remember the names.  A Maximus son.  I still think Lindsey is one of the best handlers, not to limit that she is one of the prettiest one too.

Now a Man U Man sonRock My World.  Karen Taylor came by to talk to Sharon Avery.  This dog is not going to allow his teeth to be looked at.  I don't think he is spooky, but seems inexperienced. What a nightmare for the handler.  I know him, but can't bring up the name as I am being given directions constantly most often contradicting what I was already told.

Now Nancy with  Kodiak Ridge.  A Midas Touch son. Midas is one of my favorite champions and of course Nancy and Kenny great people.  This is a great looking black dog. Down and back is right in front of me, but John is a hard person to see through.  The joint is filling up.  That is a smooth moving dog and a great outline against the white wall.

Now Joohn goes to talk to To   and back in the center for the next dog, Game of Thrones.  Mike Metz owns him and another dark dog.  What a nice dog, but looks young.

Mike is in there with Day Tripper, a very handsome black and tan that poses but is being messed up by the double handler.  Another Man U Man this one with Allen Wood.  There is no question as to who is the big producer this year, and Allen is in front of me.  Perfect coming and going, and off he goes.  A bit wild, but one of the good ones.

Diane Brown has Orian V Laslar Windfall.  I have to admit this is my favorite. First of all Diane is one of the all time beautiful women, second the Dam has Asgard in her name.  I have been and remain a shallow person.

Now they line up, John walks down from front to back and looks them over. He has his hands clasped behind his back and tells them to take a pass and off they go with Greg in front then Lindsey and at the end Diane. John walks over, tells Mike to go in front then Nancy, and Mike Metz' dog.  I know the handler but can't bring up her name.  I like his choices. John knows a moving dog. He finished Big Ben with me on the lead, so we know he doesn't favor handlers. On that day The Guz had a dog he wanted to finish, and I wanted to finish Ben, and did so.

Now the next group. Cindy in front.  She has Tequila Shooter.  Cindy is one of the owners.  I see Cindy Bartly and she waved.

Now it is Kubistraums Free For All. He like so many youths does not want his teeth checked. But is sound and a great looking puppy.  John is off to the side so I can see he is clean coming and going, but John wants to see him again. Again he is fine.  Off he goes and the crowd likes him, and so do I.  nother one of the dark pups we are seeing. I love the depth of body on this pup. Alex backs up to give a full ring, so I suspect the pup can move. Nice and smooth but not very UP.

Next up is Devil Varrowhead. Don't yell at me, I just report what it says in the Good Book.   Off he goes and a nice looking sable. It doesn't seem like we are seeing as many sables, and with a dominant gene that is strange.

Bill Basu is now out there with Iron Thrown. Owner by Mike Metz.  A very dark, possible a Bi, probably so. Either well trained or perfectly built as every stop is a pose. Impressive.  Off they go, Bill is looking for the double handler and lets the lead out all the way.

Kent is out there with Chaos.  Sheree Moses and some dude named James own and bred him. That dude is standing in front of me.  Clean going away and I can't see him coming but Kent tell Jimmy to go around and off he goes.  Were I judging, that would be my pick.

John goes to look them over, walks from the front to the back.  He stops at each one and we try to figure out what he is thinking when he doesnt' stop.  He sure takes extra time with Chaos

There they go again with Cindy stil in front, walking.  Kent leaves a big space and lets his dog out.  John looks them over and puts Kent in front. Again, I am not as dumb as people say. Bill is in second and George just came by.  Off they go in that order, now Kent give a full 12 foot lead.  That is a spectacular puppy, unless Kent is fooling me.  John calls for the second group to line up as a separate line behind the others.  Kent takes his pup over to see Jimmy.

Some big character from Canada is in front of me, but the second group takes a pass with Mike in front, then Nancy. John says go again.  And he leans down to look them over.  John stops them and brings out the second group again. they all stack the pups.  The seats are full on both sides of the ring. I don't remember seeing this for the first day before.  Now on to the first group again.  John stops at Nancy's dog and walks down and now looks at Kent, Bil and the rest of that group.

He points to Kent, then Mike and places the class, leaving six to suffer is silence.  The suffering six take a pass and are excused to be put out of their misery.

Now back to reality. Alan Wood is here and doubling his dog, but I doubt anyone is going to beat, but the next two are also great.  John walks back to the front and tell them to keep going until he says to stop and off they go. Kent at a full stride and I can't imagine he is going to change what he has done. John is doing a great job.  He stops them and tells them to take is easy and walks to Kent's dog and looks him over.

Now, each of them go down and back. The crowd like Day Tripper, and I do too.  Game of Thrones is another big winner, but needs to mature out.  They all stack, John says, take them around.  There they go, and John is doing a fast walk it is Kent Mike Game of Thrones and Spades with Nancy.

Evan's blog

I think people like it because my mind rambles and I write my thoughts as they come to me.  I often don't recognize what I write, and I read some of the stuff from yesterday. Isn't that how we all think, watch a dog, say hello to an old friend, have a stray memory flow through your mind, then watch another dog.

It is still quite, a bit cold for me, and listening to Jack play a bugle is a real treat.  How they got this all set up last night is amazing. We were here in the afternoon, and they were still doing agility. The rain yesterday was mild and not really a problem.

I just spent half an hour talking to Sarget Poitras. Besides being elected veteran of  the year, he is a wood carver, and a champion roller skater.   He play bugle at funerals around the country. A very interesting person.

Ben Begornia brought a black puppy by, and he peed in front of me. I hope that isn't a comment on the show. Channing is cleaning it up.  Now the place is filing up. Carl came in with Sharon Avery, and Cindi is here as are others lining up for cataloges.  One more thing, if ;you didnt' know, I can't spell.

I am the only announcer, so when the show starts I have multiple directions from multiple people telling me what to do. So, I will be doing the best I can.  Carl confirmed it is cold in here.
Bob ( the voice of the National) just called. Tedi came by, I had to cut off Bob, and he said he sees me, but there is some delay.  I guess there is a camera on both sides.  Alan Wood is  here now.  Ben is here and Tedi is sitting with me.  Everyone is telling me what to do, and a lot of contrary directions.  I suspect they know I am going to do what I do. Jane Kerner is here now, and has a great walking stick.

Vickie Beamont is here talking to me.  I don't think I will be able to talk much  this year.  All I can do is wave.  Maybe that is good, since I can't remember names anyway.  Vickie looks as beautiful as ever, and John as distinguished as he always does. I may be showing under them soon.

Early morning musting

If you were going to miss a National, this was not the one.

I just met the Collor Guard, and they are five men, no one under 60, in full uniform with the lead being the Veteran of the Year, Jack Poitras.  He is here with his service dog Bliss.  Jack told me he does as many as ten funerals  a day, and is a bugler.  He and I discussed playing that instrument.  I played coronet in high school, and we talked about how to not press so hard to break your front teeth. He told me he too has that concern.  A great guy, and I got to shake Bliss' paw.

I also will  be reading the Parade of Greats, and this year it is just simply amazing.  It will be hard not to break down in  both of those, but I will do the best I can.

Last night I talked to the producer and director of Myth Busters. I will be appearing on the show as a Dog Judge to describe how people don't always look like their dogs.  It sounds like a fun idea, but I have to be there at 9:00 Monday morning, so I will have to give myself three hours to get there.

I see people starting to come in now. Tom Mesdag is here setting up the tables. All the Select ribbons are hanging on a large stand at the end of the ring, and what a display that is.  Only  the Color Guard is in the ring, and not any dog people here yet.  That has to tug at your heart strings. They are rehearsing and it makes you proud to be an American.  I would take a knee, but I doubt I could get up again.  So often they get the Boy Scouts, or the local school. This is quite a display.

In the past Bobbie and I used to see who would get here earlier. We usually got here at the same time.  I will miss them both again this year.  Also, Ken and Patty Downing belong here, it isn't a real National without them.  The Color Guard are all Viet Nam Vets.  When did we all get so old?

Early and alone

Here I am at 6:00 a.m.  There was  no one here, but the ring is set up and looks great. Candy just got here and is looking for a table for me. But, I did find electricity and a chair.

We were talking about the past and working with Kathy Steen, Debbie Hokanin, Nancy Nellis and now Gail.  It is amazing how hard they all work and keep a smile,.  I hope you can see the ring. In two of the corners they have a little forest set up, and it is very attractive.  Someone already complained that the dogs will stop to pee on them.  I guess we need to train our dogs better.  I do miss the flags that were made for the club, but I think they are in storage and may show up in the future.

This will be a rough National for memories.  Tom and Vivian Brown won't be here, but Vivian is still with us. I won't start to talk about those we have lost, there are so many and they will be remembered at the right time at the show. But, now, so early for me, the memories seem to stream through my mind.

I remember when the treasurer told me I couldn't use the electricity. Then one year they wouldn't let me stream from the show and I drove to a diner each day to send out my Blog.  Candy just came by with a table. Then there was the year I was told I had no place to be, and I said just let me post I won't be bloging that year, they got me a table. Then I remember being told I was to be known as unofficial.  I guess some were worried I was out of control, (not an unusual finding for me), and the Club disavowed me.  And yet, here I am.

I could reflect on so many Nationals, the people, the dogs, the memories. That is, to me, the value of the Nationals. The memories that remain, the friends that come back each year, and the dogs and people no longer with us.  I saw Jimmy yesterday, Dan Dwyer, called Butch Clint, got fudge from Michael Cheeks, (we have a runner joke. I bring him Sees candy, so he brought me New Jersey fudge.  I had such a sugar rush yesterday.

I will be back, but now to set up my table.  I got the candy, and it should last a day or  two.

BEST IN MATURITY

One class to go, there got the Dog and the Bitch. They both are good, but my choice would be the bitch.  But, no one asked me, so far.

Lots of talk and laughter now, and Kent has the bitch, and George has the dog.  Since John didn't judge the dogs, he has to go over him again.  He leans down to get a good look, stands in front of him and has him go down and back and looks at him, pats him and tells him to take him around with a good gesture.  Good choice on him.

Now the bitch.  Down and Back.  She is one good looking bitch. He takes her around, probably more for us. He already judged her.  I do like what I see.

That is it, the Dog wins.

Tomorrow is another day.

Maturity bitches

It is raining.

I moved deeper into the tent,  but the plug is near the edge and a hole in the tent right above me.  I, like the normal intelligent person I am, moved.  I often say I am not as dumb as I look.

John is standing in the rain. Now because he wants to, but because he has to.  In come the Maturity bitches.  First a sable, now another sable. Finally Scott with a black and tan and now Jeff without a jacket. George is holding a bi, and is still with a jacket on,that will soon be soaked.  I see Alex actually has a rain jacket. and off goes George.  An all black that seems to be a crowd favorite.  Now Kent with Up Town Girl, and he takes her out to take a comfort break, and now a Jill daughter, by some unknown male called some sort of gasoline name, I guess it is  Exxon.   Kent comes back and asks the bitch if she feels better, and his suit is already soaked. Nice moving bitch. And now Mike with a Fasano bitch, and now Bill Basu Sierra, (I think).  A real star, whoever she is.  I can't read any of the numbers.

It is muggy.  Off goes the group, and it is but a light rain. They called for thunder storms, but this isn't too bad. But, the handlers are soaked already.  I have to admit, I am tired of sitting, but I feel a duty to do this. I guess some very strange people want to read it.  John divides it into the first group of six. I hear Celeste squeeking, so the Exxon bitch must be in there. That has to be Fly.

John looks cool are calm. Butch came by and touted himself for a temperament test and judging the show.  After what he did yesterday, I think he is going to be in great demand. And, I can't say enough about Gail and the job she does at the National. Never stopping and always a kind word.

I think the rain has put a damper on things. It is very quiet. It is 11:30 and I suspect we will be done  by noon.  Olivia with her sable.  That bitch is so well proportioned.  I love to look at her, and moves so balanced.

George with a black and tan, but almost all black. I guess some might call her a Bi,but I would but Tedi would slap me upside the head.  So, I call her a very dark black and tan.  George is one of the best of the best at handling, and the best competitor. He always wants to win.   Now Scott gets his tern.  I think the rain has let up for now, but still drizzle.  I see John is looking at teeth himself, but I don't see any signs of coughing, so maybe that is over.  Down and back and a very very smooth moving bitch.   I think I may have gotten a Skype, as I got a strange ring. I will have to ask Nancy what it means.

Wow, the crowd likes that bitch. I missed her because I was looking to see what Skype means.  Nancy said I am on liine but no one called.

Now Alex and I like the suspension on that bitch. John gves her a good look as she holds the pose and around she goes. That is what I want in a bitch.  That is the Jill daughter. Bob Gheglari just came by.  He sat to talk to Twyla, and there go the bitches, and here comes the rain.  John folds his arms and gives everyone a good look.  It is fun to be under the tent while everyone else is out in the rain, and off they go again.  I do admit being reasonable I love the Jill puppy. I don't think I have seen her before.  YES. The Jull puppy is put up to third.  Behind Olivia and Scott.  She is local, Pat and Celeste, but I either have missed her, or not seen her.

Now, on to the next group.  I see Pat and Celeste and they are not smiling. No one out in the rain looks happy.

Kent in front. Now, we have wind, so rain is coming down and blowing under the tent.  Six in there, and Mike has a nice bitch. There goes Celeste to get in position.  Kent brings out his bitch.   The tents are loading up and the real die hards are standing out  in the rain. Kent takes his bitch down and back and starts over and takes her again. He is one of the best handles I have seen, second to Jimmy, who was his mentor.

Now an all black and it is very quiet under the giant tent. I see Nancy Hubble talking to Nancy McDonald with Karen Taylor listening.  I have heard of a wet T-shirt contest, but this is a wet handler exhibit.  The crowd goes crazy for the black.  Now Lenny with a black and tan.

Mike Avery is here talking to his wife.  And, on goes the show. I am typing from my lap, a table would have been better.  If I can figure out how to use Skype, my day won't be wasted.  A lot of noise for Lenny's bitch. She is owned by the Stifflemens.

Now Lindsey with an almost all black and the crowd does like him and he moves easy and balanced.  Now Mike.  There are lots of other people here, whose names escape me. So, I can pretend I don't see them. When you are young, (too late for me), start calling people Bub, or Dude, or Pal, or Guy.  It will serve you well when you are older.

Now Mr. Basu is in there with his bitch.  For those who don't know Bill, he is one of the most friendly and helpful people you could ever know.  He would do anything to help  others, except for Flower Boy.

I admit it, we all miss Bob (The voice of the National), and me because I know so few names.  The crowd seems to like Bill's bitch.  Now they line up and John goes t look them over, walking down the line, stopping at each bitch.  I don't see his expression change but he gives Lindsey's bitch and extra long look, the same with Bill.

And he says, "walk" and off they go. Kent does the fastes walk I have ever seen, but his legs are long enough for it.  John pull the black bitch, Music of the Night to the front andthey take a pass. She is something special.  And now Kent takes the front.  A very nice bitch at a walk.   I would not call that a walk.  He sends that group aside, and takes the next group with Olivia in front then Scott, Alex and others with George in the end. He stops them and looks them over and pulls Kent to the first place Up Town girl. John sends the last five to the side and tells them to walk again. I doubt he will change them but he is walking towards them and moves Lenny to third.  I think I might have been the first time they placed the winners at the Futurity at the National.  I don't remember who I had but I was third. Someone else will know.

John excused that group. It is getting dark, and I don't mean the dogs and John tells them to take a pass, He gives them all a look and It is Up Town Girl, then Olivia, Lenny and Scott.

I don't want to imply anything, but the first two are wearing blue hats.  I am just saying.

Maturity dogs

I talked to Art, and the fire came within a mile of homes of those here, but everyoneis afe.  There are fires in Southern California, but while close to our homes, about ten miles away, so everyone see fine.

Karen Taylor is here laughing. She does that most of the time. I see Pam is back to the center.  It is amateur Futurity dogs.  I am sorry, but it is hard to hold  my attention, but there were two of them. One of them won.

A girl in my office owns two condominiums. She had to evacuate them both due to the fire.  It is a rough time this week.

Big Dave came by for a minute.  Everyone is milling around now, waiting for the Maturity.  It looks like rain, but the Futurity is over, how long can the Maturity last?  I just called for the dogs. I am going off line now.  I need a comfort break.  That is probably too much information.

In come the Maturity dogs. Now, that is exciting. I got to talk to Jane Kerner. To me, that is the high point of my National each year.  I see Mike in there now with a real  stallion dog.  Jane has a dog in there I want to see. She was telling me that Ed judged him and liked him so much he co-owns him.  It is getting real dark, and I hope we finish quickly.  I do recognize and Exxon dog in there. and Kent owns two dogs in there, so I don't know which one he is on.  Mike has Fire Starter, who is Exxon bred to Asgard's Jill.   I always like to see and talk to Linda Fergeson, and she is here too and has a dog in there.

Off goes the first dog, and he looks as good as I could ask for. Now Lenny.  There they go. In that class is Arson and Rifleman, and of course I like them both.  Mike does a great job, and Arson is such a strong mover.  I hear squeeks from Celeste.  and it gets darker and darker, and now thunder, and off they go, the second group. I am going to move deeper into the tent.  Pam looks secure, but she has to know it is going to rain.  George takes him down and back.  It is hard for me to think there could be anything in Specials to match these.

I remember one year when I got started and was showing in the classes. Then come Specials, I realized that it was a whole new show.  There is  nothing like seeing those champions.  Now Linda's dog is in there. George and Linda are another reason I like to come to the National.   Kermit, and the crowd likes him.   Jeff is in there with another Exxon son.  He is a great moving dog, and stands perfectly.  Two Exxon sons in there, and just shows that the dog is producing as good as he is.  We have a litter of Exxon puppies at home. They are bred to a repeat of Jill, who is the damn of Fire Starter, etc. Jill, Kierk, Icon, and Way to Go are all repeat champions, so we bred Way to Go to Exxon.  It might be a good Way To Go.

Now Cindy has her dog in there.  I think she has San Gabriel.  And it is getting darker and darker. I feel like voltmort might be here.  Pam goes to the desk and hands her glasses in. Either she can see without them, or doesn't want to look any further.  she has five up there to look at, half the class, and off they go.  Pam stands back and tells them to take another pass. I like what George has, and also Linda's dog, hell, I like them all.  Not a slouch in there.

She moves George to the front, then Mike and calls for her rain jacket.  Off goes the second group, and they also are top quality, and a few stars.

Back to her winners five, the rest go to handler's hell for the day. No rain yet. George, Mike, Kent and then, who cares. She has them walk, and Arson looks great and I doubt she will change.  But, she is looking them over, and now they stop.  Not much noise, and off they go again. I like Arson the best, but that is me.  She stops them again and off they go again.  Someone is outside the ring double handling the first dog and now Mike and the second dog,and she brings them back and Georgeleads the Group, and YES, he takes it.  Who I talked about Dui chien's American Rifleman Forever, owned by Libby7 Cameron, Ed Barritt, Liz Oster and Kent Boyles, bred by JANE E. KERNER.  Cool!

Best in Futurity

John is in there now lookiing at teh dog and the bitch. What two super German shepherds.

I talked to Bobbie Kindy for a minute, she is looking great. It is quiet whileJohn looiks them over and the double handlers get going and off they go with the dog with Bill Basu and the bitch with Scottie.  This is a hard call, but the Bitch gets it. BEST IN FUTURITY

Futurity bitches

In come the girls.  John is looking great and I got to congratulate Vickie and commiserate with John. Actually we bred the damn, and I will take whatever credit I can. I think the damn is out of Magic Marker, but that credit has to go to Christine anyway.  But, I claim taking her to Select.  I did see Cappy and Gloria yesterday, I worry about their home.  I will have to check to make sure all are safe.  In goes Lenny and up is

Now a startling bi is in there and they keep on coming. If I read correctly Manny and Joey have two bitches in there.  I see Diane has a bitch that Asgard has something to do with.

Shelia Lieberman just came by.  She brought Zoe.  Rick Olanshi was by a talked for abit. It was great to see both of them.  John is in the ring pretending to be a juge. She always does a great job, and he will do great in the Show. I see Erin and Ben Bignoria is talking to Tedi. We got to see Nancy Nellis at dinner last night, it was great to see her.

In the ring are the bitches and they are being stacked the wrong way for the camera, and Journey is in there.  I only know that because I can hear Linda calling her.  She is a smooth moving bitch.  The crowd is quiet now, and I think I see Pam Stoesser over at the other side of the ring with Jane. I always enjoy seeing them.  Erin Nellis is talking to Candy next to me, and off goes a good moving bitch.  I am sorry I can't see the number, but I can ask who wins.

Now a very dark blak anc tan. Some might call her a bi. Someone other than me. Since I am typing this, I can say whatever I want. That does explain why it is the "unofficial Blog" of the parent club.

John give her a long look and sends her around.  She is hard for me to see, but the outline looks good.  Now Mike with a black. Maybe the bitches are arranged by color.  I see two dogs that are black and two that could pass.

It is starting to darken out there, and we are about half an hour from when they claim it is going to rain.  John goes to the center of the ring and Mike goes arround. I like that dog. I have never shown an all black, but that bitch would change my mind.  We did breed a great all black male. He went to Flower Boy, and would have been a super star, but on pastern was weak. I would have finished him, but Ed decided not to.  I do miss Ed at this show, but I think he is traveling.  There goes Diane with a bi, and she takes her slow and easy. I hear Tim double handling. What a team. It does tick me off that neither of them seem to age.

John stands back as they stack the bitches, and now he waks down the ring and gives everyone a good look.  And back to the missle of the ring and tells them to move. I know that because all the double hanlders move. There they go, at a walk. I don't know who Tally is, I I do know who is shouting her name.  Diane giging Tim directions,, and they stop, stack and stad off. Olivia holding her bitch on a full lead, standing back and showing of.  And, there they go again. John walks to the center f t he ring, and walking again. John leans over to look at them. The curse of being that tall. He moves Olivia to the front and lets them live up again.  Off they go with Journey in front and she should be.  Olivia is a top quality handler, and she has the super star.

On to the next group.  Six in there, and off they go at a trot with Alex in front.  Then Scott and Lenny, with the rest, and off they goo again. I see Lisa is second from the yelling of the double handlers, with Scott.  I see my  "HOME" button is about to fall off, so I will wait to try to fix it to later.  I would hate to lose all the pithy comments I have made.  Candy Zumwalt is sitting here and Errin keeps on laughing. Now Alex, and a crowd pleaser.  I just got to give a hug to Leslie. She said to say hello to Kay.  Talk about memories.  If I lose those, it is time to check out. After doing this for 45 years, there are so many great old events that make it even more fun to be there.  And, Lenny goes down and back, with a bitch.

I am eating the fudge I was given.  Talk about a sugar rush.

What a tremendous line up of bitches and in the ring is the last in the group. I took at look and Manny and Joey  have three bitches in there.  All Halston daughters.  She was always a favorite of mine, also her owners.  I told them the first time I saw her that I felt she was unbeatable.  I see Twyla's bitch is out there with Nancy. She has great moments and is just learning how to work. When she is on, she is fantastic, and when she lets up, she is still pretty good.

Lindsey is in there with a top quality bitch, just purchased by a new owner.  That is a real star, and John won't miss her.  Carolyn just came by and told me she bought her, and yes, john moves her to second, with Nancy in fourth.  I know John is one of the top judges, and while I think Dave Rinke is as good as the get, I don't think we lost much with John.

He now looks at teh first group, Journey in front, with Linda being less than subtle with her double handling.  John stope them and looks at his second group.    And moves Scott to the front, Alex, the Olivia, and, to be hones, do the rest matter?  Mona is in front, and John gives the rest of them a good look and there are some real winners in there. He stops them and tells them to take a break, outside the ring.  Now there are six.

Laureen can double for me any time.  Of they go with Scott leading, John gives them a good look, and walks to the front, and they seem a bit disorganized, but now back to stacking in order. Johns has his handsw behind his back and now tells them to take another pass. I thinnk that is it and John gives them a look and counts off, but the winner is Breal-Jogra's Ulyssa. oF COURSE, THE ODDS WERE IN FAVOR OF A hALSTON DAUGHER.

Futurity dogs

I am amazed.  Here I sit a ringside, with my  computer working.

Nancy McDonald came by and knows computers up and down.  She is working on setobting up my Skype, but I am on line, using my I phone for a hot spot.  If you know what that means, you are far ahead of me.

Pam is in the ring, and Michael Metz just brought me some fudge.  Lenny came in with a good looking dog. George is first, then Kent and now yet another. These are the Futurity dogs. Dave Rinke is here, and I don't see Martha yet.  I do see Bill Basu a bout to go in, I think he might have a winner there. Oh, wait, they are all winners. Kent has an all black.  I was able to get the speakers working, and so I can post.   I see a good crowd already and Pam is watching them as they each take a pass.

Everyone but Basu has a jacket on. I see Don Knight's dog, but don't see Don yet. What a good looking lineup of dogs.  It is too early for me to remember names, Bob, where are you. Diane Brown is in there with a good looking Black and tan, and now Nancy goes in.  Zack is sitting next to me, and aplauds Nancy's dog. That is one of the great Exxon dogs, and our dog Tigre is home missing the action.  Were he here, I am sure he would have won.

Eleven dogs in there, and Pam walks down and checks them in.  All the Futurity dog winners and reserves.  It makes a great group. Pam counts off seven, and gives them direction.  It is a beautiful day in the neighborhood, no rain yet, but starting to clowd up.  Off they go with Olivia in a red jacket in front, George, Kent with Basu at the end.  Two others, but I am working on remembering names.

Sharon avcery is sitting with Twyla.  Tedi and I went to dinner with Helen last night, it was a great meal, al always.  They only use arm bands, so I can't see who the dogs are, and no one wants to give me information. A good moving black and tan. Now George.  I guess it is time to stop calling him Georgee, but those who knew him when Lamar was teaching him, still remember that name.

It is starting to darken, but we are under the "big tent" at the end of the ring.  Pam walks around the dog, and he stands and off around they go.

George takes him slow and easy, a great front, and smooth at that speed.

Up comes Kent with a black dog that jumps on Pam and almost knocks her down. Not aloof, but got a good laugh.  I see Linda Kury working hard, and Tom Mesdaag has been the steward, doing a great job.  Val Manning is doing the photography, and working every minute.  Kent's dog likes to jump and a good looking dog, smooth and steady mover, and the crowd appreciates him.

Now Lenny with a striking Black and Tan. I guess if you have a catalogue, you can figure out who they are, but i can't see the numbers. I did see Joey for a minute but he ran off to watch. Carl is here and  I hear "Urea" or something like tha, so I guess that is the name.

Now, another all black. We are seeing more and more of them.  I see Alex is here and I got to talk to him about the Hurricane. The family is fine, but a lot of the island is gone. He is going home soon to see family. Channing is here, still grinning from yesterday.

The show goes on, and no temperament problems. I see the video is steaming and people come by.  I see Pat Draper is here, and I think I see his daughter, and next to him is Celeste, (the hardest working person in shepherds).  They drove, and I haven't asked yet how many dogs they brought.

Finally Basu is out there with a handsome black and tan.Pat and Celest moved so that is probably Pacificico.  If so, he is a good looking male, all dog.  He stands and Pam looks at him and off he goes. That probably is nnot the Exxon son, but I still likehim.  Now they stand off and there go the double handlers and off they go all seven.  Half an hour on the first half of the group.

Pam moves Bill to second behind Olivia and George behindhim and Pam looks them over and walk to them and moves Ken to third, with George behind him. And the stack.  Pam walks to the middle of the ring and sends them off again.  Now just the first four, and she give them a good look.

Zoe came by and does not know Skype, but Nancy will help when she gets out of the ring. Now the second half is there. If you want to know why I need Skype, I am supposed to meet with the producer about my appearance on Myth Busters. They are doing a show about if people resemble their dogs. I am the stupid judge who explains if that is or is not a myth.  Having never done Skype, (but my lap top has a Skype sticker on it), I think it will work.

Now the first dog is out there and great looking stallion type dog, with a great top line.  In spite of the fires, Northern California is here.  Now the first dog of the second half takes a pass, and the crowd like that dog.  Now the second dog.

The sun is trying to come out and they say rain about ten, it is but 8:30, so we are still dry.  I seel that Chris Fasano is helping, and Zoe just came by to say she is going up the hill to work agility. She never stops moving.

Sheryll just came by with Twyla's bitch. She looked great yesterday but let down a bit. It will be interesting to see how she does today.  She is a Futurity bitch.  Lenny takes a pass. That is another star. These are good looking dogs, and would win in any  show.  Now Diane is out there.  She told me she injured her foot a couple of weeks ago, but seems to be doing fine. I dont' see Tim, but he is always there when she is in the ring.  She has a very stylish dog, who seems to be having a great time.  And off she goes for the trip around.  Great timing on that dog, and the crowd appreciate it.

Now Nancy is out there and so is not helping me with my Skype. I hate it when dog shows get in the way of important stuff.  Still sun shine. I see a lot of mingling and the crowd likes Nancy's dog.

And out goes Mike. The dog wags his tail and seems to be having a good time. I hear sqweeks from Celeste, but I dont' see her. That must be Pacifico, the Exxon son.  I would guess an Exxon son just from seeing him. Big, great style and shape and I see Leslie with red hair.  No relationship. That dog moves with such power.  I am a fan of Exxon and have been since he was a puppy.  I like what he is producing as well.  Real strong males. and off goes the group.  with Mike at the end. Pam foldes her arms and gives them a good look.  And they line up.  Pam walks to the frong, and now walks back t look at them moving another trip  around.  They leave lots of space and now set them up with hearts beating.  The handlers too.  And Pam walks down the line, looks them over and now gives some direction, with her hands on her back and stands, and stands, and stands. Now she walks back to the first group and walks the line, she has two lines of dogs.  Now to the front of the second group and walks back and wants to see the second group, walking.  They do as they are told.  with Mike in the back.   Pam gives some direction and off goes teh first group. I see Linda Bankhead is here and off goes the second group with Olivia in front, walking now. I like what Basu's dog is doing and they set up. YES, Billgoes thethe front, and Pam is pulling and placing.  Bill in Front then Kent with the black dog and Pam takes aroungthe six other dogs and sends them all to doggie hell.  Now more Futurity for you. Now she has seven, Nancy in last place, Bill leading the pack.  And, off they go, at a walk.  Very impressive.

Still no rain and they dogs stop for Pam to look them over.  She points to Diane and oves her to fourth, I am sure she is delighted, and off they go, and Pam gives them a good look, everyone gets a look and she  mves to the front as the set up, and she stands back again.  And, now at a trot.  Off they go, and yes, Bill wins it with Lindenhill's Cold Pac V Gracelyne.

More to come.

Crazy, perhaps.

Here is the question. Are we all crazy?

It is pouring rain.

Now, I have to admit, this location for the National is a great show site. The facilities are everything we could ask for. Yes, it is next to impossible to get dogs here from the East or West Coast, but forgetting the dogs, it is a good place to have a dog show.

But.  Today it is pouring rain.  There is thunder and lightening, pouring rain, and cold.

If we are going to be outside, we need to be in Arizona, California, or get a roof.  Even a circus tent will work.

Today we will do the Futurity/Maturity in pouring rain.  I have outgrown handling, but I can't imagine how miserable it will be for the handlers and judges. The dogs?  I doubt they care, and so maybe it doesn't matter.

I have my umbrella and will stay under the tent. So, since it is always about me, I guess it is going to be another great day in dog world.

The show befor teh show

It was a great first day of the national.

It started out cold, but got up to 80 with no rain. They call for rain tomorrow, and the Futurity will be outside as the show today.

Clint did a great job, and I loved the bitch Channing showed.  She was winner's bitch and Best of Winners. I will assume someone is posting the results.

I have three call from Bob Dresher, he will be missed. He watched the show  streaming, so I guess it was available.

I got to see Diane Brown, a highlight of the National for me, and even talked to Tim. I told Diane we could do a calendar of girls of the national, but I am not sure we could do a whole year.

I did get to talk to Jane Kerner, and Cappy and Gloria were here. Of course Dave Rinke and Martha were sitting with Paul, and we all got a few minutes together.

Twyla, Tedi and I were able to sit with Karen Taylor, and Nancy Hubble came by for a bit. Everyone is worried about the fires in Northern California so Zack and Lindsey kept checking the news. Frank and Carolyn Martello got here about half way through the day, as did Bill Basu.

I did say hello to Christine Granger, and also spent a few minutes with Mary Ann Imhoff and her daughter Tracy, who shocked me by telling me she had an 18 year old daughter. Tracy, not Mary Ann.

Helen Gleason is taking Tedi and me to dinner, the last chance we can talk to her before we become officially the little people if she is elected president.

Gail Stiffleman was working all day, and their daughter talked to me about the Parade of Greats.  I am going to be reading it, so I went over the script. What a line-up.  It starts with Rumour and then just goes on. So many of the conformation champions are performance stars.

I probably won't attend the education seminars.  I have nothing more to learn and since my brain filled up in 2011, every time I learn something new, I have to forget something I knew. Last week I forgot my seventh grade locker combination.

Sharon and Mike Avery spent some time with the group, and  I saw some real stars in the ring.  The procedure was great, but the young pups, before six months, take a long time to judge.

We finished about four, but I didn't think there was any wasted time.

I enjoyed seeing JoLin, Joan Fox and Linda Bankhead.  Linda was taking pictures.  I am going to miss Murray a lot.

On to dinner, and then the Futurity. I can't post from the outside show, my  computer has to be plugged in. Much like myself, it is too old to work at peak efficiency any  more.

Streaming videos

I just flew in from Los Angeles.  And, boy are my arms tired.  Am I the only  person who can give a tribute to Henny?  Take my wife.  Please.

Tedi and Twyla left town Friday  morning, but I  stayed behind to work on Friday and Saturday to line up work for the office for  when I am gone.  Not that anyone listens to me.  They were both going to take a dog, but ended up dogless.

Bob and Tony won't be here this year, so I will do the announcing and the Unofficial Blog.  I have to tell you that each year, Bob and I know all the names, and each of  us can't remember what they are. But, it worked out that we only didn't know the names of people who the other person didn't know.  While I will have the candy for everyone, I may have to have a pee jar at the table as well.

So, when you come by the table, stick out your hand, (or for the cute girls, give me a hug), and say your name.  I hope Paula is here so I can find out how Bully is doing, and I will try to remember her name.

This is the first test of the Blog to see if I remember how to do it. In the past Zoe had to teach me over and over each year. By tomorrow I will know.

That reads like a "Whose Who" of the club.
I will only be able to help at the table if someone helps at the announcer's table, so far I am the only person there. Tony and Bob, (The Voice of The National), won't be there.
As a beginning thought for the Blog, today a client was to go with me to a deposition.  She is suing because her 14 year old son was run down and killed last year.  She was in Vegas at the concert, can't find three of her friends and can't get out of Vegas. She can barely talk now, and will have to deal with the losses.  Death was right next to her at the concert, and now she has that to think about as well.
Life is so short, and so fragile.  When we get to St. Louis, let's remind each other how thankful we are for their friendships, and for sharing the world with us.
I don't mean to blather, but my thoughts are with all who lost someone lately, and with so many friends I am thankful that allow me to call them friends.
I will pick up the Junior's trophy today, check the bank balance, and close out 2017. I will have a pin for each Junior, so send them to the announcer's table to get their pin.
Evan

Linda Bankhead writes:

Thank you to the following 28 volunteers who have graciously agreed to help at The GSDCA table. The goal is to welcome any visitors and introduce them to our club and event. While at the table, we are also asking for help with the booth in general and getting members their catalog orders, seats, etc. I will be approaching you with a sign-up sheet (and have one at the table) so you can select the best time to serve.
