Even before the show starts

I am here early again, and have some thoughts.  I am talking to Doug Crane, and that is the good part of the National. We are talking about Kathy Steen, and some of the old timers.

I went to the board meeting.  I was struck by the fact that there are so few people there and Lew Bunch and Helen Gleason read all  the winners of the club challenges and the PAM awards. Since no one was there, they should just post it.  Nothing interesting came up, and there were only 40 or 50 people there. Carmen didn't ask for any input from the members and the only interesting thing was a bench show committee, and Carmen was pushed to answer what they did, and declined to answer.

I do have some thoughts about this show and location.   Flowerboy said he didn't like MO.   I have to say this is a great place for a dog show. The people are decent to us, they are cheerful, and the place is clean and climate controlled. The grounds are great, The footing in the ring is different, but it is different for everyone.  The food "works" and the general location, 45 minutes from the airport is OK.

Now, the way the show was done stinks. Having the Futurity/Maturity start at 5:00 pm is just plain stupid.  Being at the show at 11:00 is lousy.  Yes, a lot of people can't get dogs here, but there are enough for a dog show, and 120 entries for Specials is fine, just missing a lot of good dogs.

There is no reason to have a host hotel.  Nothing is done there, the Host Hotel stinks, both literally and figuratively.  It is musty, the kitchen burned down so there is no food, the rooms are normal, but they aren't cleaned well. There is nothing that makes it a special place and unless it means something, we should just not have a host hotel.

The judging has been great, the quality good, and the general attitude fine.  I would like to see some rotation so others can enjoy a National, but there is nothing wrong with MO.  There are a few things, such as trying to return a rental car on Sunday, but those things aren't terrible.

So long as I am not trying to show a dog, or in my case have two bitches to be bred, this is a fine place for a dog show.  The only draw back is the inability for the two coasts to get dogs here, but maybe the cost thing is a trade off.

The place is coming alive, so I am going to send this and get ready for another dog show. Bob Slay came by to discuss the club and I agree with him.

Tony is here too and it is getting to look like a dog show.

I sure do miss Tom and Vivian Brown, and the Ghalaris. I know, I get to see them all the time, but they were always part of the National.  I still haven't found Ed Hill, but he must be here somewhere.

The Annual meeting the election

Change Larry to Mary, (Gatone) and you got it. John Beamont and Helen as VP will help a lot.

There were charges brought against Christine Granger again and a Bench Show Committee heard it.  Carmen was questioned about it, and he ducked the answer.  I will find out more tomorrow, I am sure.

It was another long day, but fun. I am beat, it is 10:30, so not that bad.  I went to White Castle and bought 100 hamburgers. I thought I would have lots left, but thankfully, I grabbed two for myself and they were gone before I got back to the announcer's table.

I was sorry to hear that Daphane was so sick and Tony left early today. But, he is there to work, and Bob and I enjoy being together with him.

The top 20 was interesting. We kept asking 20 what?  No one seemed to know and nothing was said in the catalog.  I finally figured it out. It was dogs beaten. So a lot of all breed shows.  When they said last year Rumor and she came in, then this year's dog, it made sense. But Lew announced it, and you couldn't understand a word he said. The microphone is terrible.

Tomorrow should be a short day. I went to The Castle again for dinner. Tedi thinks I am crazy and this confirms it.

More tomorrow.

Now my favorite class Amateur Owner Handler Bitches

There she is, Lillie Crowe, sith Kaleef's Proud Mary V Zahnarz't.  I suspect she will  win the class.

Yolanda is here, and I haven't seen her for a long time. She looks great. And Yes she wins. And looked terrific doing it.

One to  BRED BY BITCHES.  And there are some male handlers in there. I am so confused.  I fixed my signature line. But I suspect it is dying a dog. It will be wrong the next post. I will have to change it permanent. But then it will be wrong next year.  I may have to hire an IT guy.

Eleven in there.  And around they go.  I am kicked off line, and Al Martin came by helping to sell candy.  We have gone through $100.00 of Halloween candy in the last two days.

I saw Ed go by, and now he has disappeared. I think he was worried he would have to talk to me.  Kathy Potter walked in front of me, and Bill Leonard is sitting with Bob at the table.

She has Diane in front, the Jeff and then Lisa.  And she takes the last three around.  She pulls Jeff out and gives him special instructions, and he walks with a loose lead. I think I know what Sue told him and so he goes in front.  Good move Jeff.

And, off they go with Jeff in front and she walks towards them and sets them aside like that.

Now the next group. I like the sable in front, All The Way Mae.  She looks a bit heavy but that might be coat. She has great style set u, and up close she is not heavy at all. She has a full coat.

The winner of the 50/50 raffle will get over $600.00.  Now that is interesting.

Sue goes back to her other group and puts Kent in front and brings in the other group with Jeff in front, then Diane.

Sue takes Kent in front, and looks at Jeff, but puts him in second Diane in third and brings up the rest.  Sue takes the down in the dump group six of them, looks them over and excuses them. she has five left. One to ignore, but all made the cut. Isn't that all you want at the National?

Kent, Jeff and Diane, and the sable in fourth, and then one more. I am blanking on names.  And again.  Just another pass of the same.  The crowd likes  Jeff's bitch. Now, down and back again.  I am off line, the computer, so I may not be able to send this, but I will try,and she moves Jeff to number two, and Diane to number three.  No change.  Just a lot of yelling and she looks at the bite on All the Way Mae, and Off againa nd That is the way it is for this year.

First is Marquis' Uptown Girl V Kenly, Second is Windfall's & Luzak's Lilly  V Foxpond, Third is Braunhaus Shimmer and Shine, and Skylyne's All the Way Mae.

I am done for the day on the computer, other than to bitch later tonight. Thanks for listening

Novice Bitches

I was wrong about the line up Bob did. There is a camera on the other side. The one behind me is doing the down and back.

Novice bitches are in the ring. I only see three in the ring, but there are ten entered. I think just the three showed up.

Lennie is out to the middle with Signature's Vera V Beechbrook, I see Liv in there with Atessa's Save the Last Dance For Me At Aramist, and Mike with Hot Topic of Oh-My.  This should not take too long. I guess Sue decided not to divide the group, she couldn't do it evenly.  I sort of like all three of them so far. On the other hand, I haven't been paying a lot of attention.  I do like Mike's bitch the best so far.  And, I have seen the three of them.

They go around and my choice would be Mike's bitch.  Sue doesn't see them the same way, she puts Lennie in front.  Mike in second.  T At Aramisthat's it.

First is Signature's Vera V Beechbrook, Second is Hot Topic of Oh-My and Third is Atessa's Save The Last Dance For Me.

15-18 Bitch

Joanna said she want sympathy, and if she can't get that, a dance partner.

I count eleven in there, but I am tired, so don't take my word for it. I see Joey has another bitch in here, and there is another Exxon pup.  I think between Galaxie, Exxon and Captain America, those three dominate the entries.

She breaks the class, as opposed to broken backs and does the loose lead temperament test.  It is 2:30, so I think we are on schedule.  Big Dave was sitting here, but refused to type anything. I went walking among the little people to listen to what they are saying. No one is saying much of anything. There goes Kent around the ring.

He has an all black, Karizma's Eritrea Von Loar, and now Jeff, with the  last in the class, another Exxon puppy. I don't think it is a secret that I love Exxon. He is such a magnificent male, and only got better as he matured.  I haven't seen him in the ring for a while, but he is always fun to see.

OK. She pulls Lennie, then Kent, Alex and two more.  Off they go and I like what she has done.  Jessica in the rear.  She tells them to take them around easy and wants them to walk.  Maryellen Kish came by and is still smiling. I saw Gail Stiffelman in the restraurant, and told her what a great job she is doing with the National. She keeps everything moving, and there seems to be no problems.

Now the first group is in there with Scott in the front. Sue has them walk.  And brings Scott from the second group into first them Jeff, and now Kent into third with Bill Basu in second. Bob just called for Novice Bitches, and we were told only two have picked up so far.  Off they go with Liz Stiffleman, Mike in front, and She takes the group of not so much, five of them and she thanks them for the entry fees, but tells them they just aren't good enough.  I hear Celeste squeeking, so her bitch must still be in there.

BasuVonzo,  goes out with an all black, and Sue wants them slow. There goes Scott, Jeff and Kent.  Kent is yelling at someone.  What would a handler be if he didn't complain?  Sue gives the three of them directions and is still talking to them, Those three do not do will with directions, they are going to do the best they can with their bitches.  Off they go, now Jeff in front, then Kent and Scott.

She is giving them all a chance to lead.  She puts Scott in front, then Kent and Jeff.  The crowd likes the all black with Kent. The crowd is happy and Sue is leaning and calls it.

First is Breal-Jogra's Isabella, Second is Karizma's Eritrea Von Loar, Third is Cherpa's Evening Grace of Merivern, and Fourth was Gomez Karma Von Loar vonzo of Karizma.  Bob, (The Voice of The National) is dancing and singing since the number one bitch is our of a dam with the Malibar name on it that is Bob, for those new people who don't remember the olden years when he has something to show in the ring.

Owner Handler Dog

I guess we have to have this class,  but there are only two dogs in there. It seems like a waste of time. We should consider removing one day from the National.

First was Dawnhill's Hudson's Journey, and Second was Marquis Mr. Brightside Ro Eko-Lan.

Since few of you care, I will go ahead and do Bred By Exhibitor Dogs.

I am not sure of the purpose of this, with three dogs, and one being handled by Kent, Marquis' Hermes V Kenlyn. But, the rules are there for a reason, and I won't question the wisdom of our board or the AKC.  I know it is a thrill for most of the entries. Kent, probably not so much. The dog he has in there is a great looking dog, and I can't imagine he will be beat.

I just had an idea, (shut up Ed). I could go back and say how great a dog is, after they win, and fool everyone. Off goes Kent.  A nice representation of the breed. and now the last one.  Joanna Rand came by with calendars.  Those ae the winners.

First is Marquis' Hermes V Kenlyn. Because I was more interested in talking to Joanna, I missed second and third.

Novice Dogs

He lines them up in the center of the ring, going the wrong way for the camera. Maybe Bob Slay knows something I don't. Most people do. Seven in the class.

Bob sends them to the side, and says to take them all together, and Jeff is trying to get his doubler to move.

Bob wants the first dog to go again, this time loose.  And they each get a pass, and now line up. Bob looks them over and moves from front to back.

Tim Brown is talking to me. While I always enjoy him, I have to admit, I like talking to his wife just a little better. She is ignoring me this show, due to showing dogs. That's my story and I am sticking to it.  When he settles in, he is terrific.

Now the Exxon dog with Mike.  I was amazed they would drive with nine dogs. Now I am starting to consider the cost of showing that many dogs. I may have to consider showing at a National some day again. But, only one dog.

My great computer erased what I wrote, it was pithy and profound. But he has Kent in front, then Liv and Mike as he lines them up on the other side.  This is new and he backs up to our side and looks them over.  Bob just told me the dog with Kent was his Winner's Dog in Canada. That is Can You Stop The Rain, and is a crowd favorite.

He takes them down and back and moves Jeff to number four, putting Mike Best Of Dump.  I think that is how it is going to be.  Kent's dog is a good one, but he moves Liv in front with Dust Bowl.   I am right again.

First is Marquis' Can You Stop The Rain V KIenlyn, Second is Timberline's Dust Bowl Dance, Third is Bergeralemind Catch Me If U Can, and fourth is Ross' High Five.

Bob is happy,so the announcer's table won't have more of his grousing. He can be such a pain to spend time with.  I just put up with him.

15-18 dogs

Bob is back. and he has six dogs in there.  This is a manageable class. I walked away from the lap top to talk to Lin Ferguson. She and I actually talked about the National election.  Getting out of California presents some interesting ideas.  There are people here that don't agree with me.  It amazing how many people are wrong.

Laurene is sitting in front of us, and it is quiet in here. I could have gotten 300 hamburgers, and maybe the rest are hungry, because everyone is talking. Karen Taylor is in front of us, and talking about the dogs.  Linda Bankhead just came over to tell us the raffle is up to $575.00 with only 1/2 of the ring.  Tedi got a hamburger here, and I thought it was so dry, but not a White Castle.

There are dogs in the ring, but I find I have lost interest. It is Scott with Breal-Jogra's Lucas.  I do like the side gait on that dog.  Jim Hill is here, and he rooms with Bob, so they still have stuff to talk about. Mike is in there with Cherpa's Defending Your Life, one of the Exxon puppies. Joan and Linda just convinced me to buy raffle tickets. Maybe it will pay for the White Castles. I like what Diana is showing in there Kermit.  I don't know if the judge will.

That was fun, it is over.  Cynthia Vandenberg is here and Ed made it.  First is Ferlin's Kermit of Sealstone, bred by Linda and George Ferguson, Second was Cherpa's Defending Your Life, Third was Chablis Confessions V Stylistic and Fourth was Breal-Jogra's Lucas.  The booze is out, lots of wine in the air.  I was pleased for both Linda and Celeste.  Do you notice a pattern in my choices for favorites?

On to the next class.

12-15 month bitches

Tony pointed out to me that my tag line is the wrong year. I will ask someone who understand computers to correct that.  Paul Root is talking to us, and Dave Rinke loves White Castle, so it was a good trip. I expect he will be next year's judge, but I repeat myself.

She is done with the individuals, and now on to the selection.  I was glad to be able to feed Ann Schultz. She will probably remain my friend. I find it you feed someone, or a dog, they like you for that.  Often they will even follow you home.

First was Peter's Elite Signature Dish, Second was Peter's Elite Dessert First v Signature, (yes, litter mates), Third was Welove Du Chien's Zip-A- Dee-Dah, and fourth was Hillside-Tanbark Shine Like a Diamond Derousse Aramist, this time with spaces.

On to the dogs.

Mising link

I have to be honest. I left the computer and made a run to White Castle. I came back with 100 hamburgers and almost didn't get to Dave Rinke before they were all gone. I thought I would have trouble giving that many away. I could have done twice as many.

So,  here are the results of the 9-12.  First was Breal-Jogra's Thalia, Second was Caretti's Holy  Terror, Third was Breathtaking of Edan and Fourth was Cherpa's Waiting to Exhale.  I think the world of Joey Perez, so that was a good win, but I didn't see it.

I had the box of hamburgers gone before I walked to the announcer's table.  Even Bob, (The Voice of The National), ate two of them, as did I. So did Cappy and Gloria, Celeste had two and so did her lovely husband. After traveling to the National in a van with 9 dogs, they deserve a free hamburger.

Now back to the real world.

6-9 Bitches

Tedi is actually sitting with me. I wonder if the fact that I refer to her as my first wife is finally working.

I see Pam Stoesser is here sitting in the front row. I see Kelly is wearing a pink jacket. I brought mine for Specials.   I need to find a spotter before Saturday,  Everyone who did it in the past has refused to do it again.  Ask Ed if you want to know the reason why.

I see 13 bitches in there. Christina Granger is here, but too busy double handling. Basu is here to get candy. I swear, without the candy, we would have no visitors. Lee Brown is talking to Bill Peterson.  Randy Chesnut, was here but leaving.

Bill Basu is asking that we say good things about him. I can't think of anything. Bob said he would try to think of something.  So far he hasn't come up with anything.

Sue is making notes and goes to the center of the ring and calls out Steve Grainger, now we know why Christine was working so hard. Bob, (The Voice of The National) and I say, Let's Make The GSDCA Great Again.  I heard a lot of people saying not to vote for Crooked Helen for VP, but she was my choice.

A bitch came in with Asgard in the damns name. My National is complete. It is all about me, and Tedi too. But, mostly me.  We are a bit bored now, we have to take a break to clean the candy bowel.  People are not taking their rappers. Maybe we should called a closed session of the board to address it. Can one eat too much candy and still type?

Patty Szynzyk is here getting information.  She attracted Gary.  Kelly has the pink jacket I covet.

The crowd likes her puppy.  I guess Paul didn't come.  She may be still healing over Harley, that was a real loss. Now Christy Heiman is in the ring and there goes Cindy Tellefson.  She is talking to Nancy.

OK, she pulls Jeff, then Kelly, Steve and Liv.  First is Defying Gravity, then Let Me Be Your Star, Annie Get Your gun and Undeniable. And a bunch more. There go the  last group. Hell, let's be honest, those who are not going to win this class.

John Ayotte is here and has his bitch in there. It is always good to see him.  I had a friend of mine, who is not in dogs, show a puppy for him when I was visiting in Detroit.

And Sue lines them up and leans back and looks them over, goes to the front for  another temperament test and runs her hand down the back.  She pulls Kelly up to the front, then Jeff then Liv and Steve in fourth.  Off they go and that might be it, she leans over to the side and walks to the group and Yes, that is it for that group, and now the second half.  Pat Draper is here to mark his catalog.  In the hope of establishing the truth, I just found out from Celeste she went to White Castle last night. Now, in California she eats only rabbit food.  Now, the truth comes out.

I like to see Sue run the tail. So many judges have stopped doing that. I went to talk to Big Dave to help influence him for next year's National. I didn't realize he has judged Specials six times.

Kely in front,k then Jeff, Lindsay, and Liv.  In front is Let me Be Your star, then P.S. I Love You, then Odyssey and off they go that way and the crowd does like Let Me Be Your Star.  They stop, the four in a row and Sue looks them over walking down the ring. She talks to Liv and stands the four back and looks at the other six, about to be shot down.  there goes the entire group, the top four way in front, and that is sort of strange.  Sue walks to the front of the group and moves P.S. I Love You to fourth.  and Now Liv to fourth in front of her.  Off again, and maybe the last time. and Sue is walking towards them with a big space between the first group, and Liv to  third with Undeniable and only the first two now. Sue is having a hard time.

Kelly fell, but she looks Ok. She always looks good.  And, Sue is giving her a minute. and off goes three and four.  and Defying Gravity goes to third.  There they go with Kelly in front, and Sue is looking over the two again.  They stay that way and that is it.

First is Windfall's Let Me Be Your Star of Hickoryhill, Second is Edale's Odyssey, Third is Windfall's Defying Gravity of Hickoryhill, and Fourth is Tara's Undeniable V Franken.

Not that you need to know, but I need a comfort break.

9-12 Males

I got here just in Time.  Bob is pulling and he has his last six in there. I got to talk to Lee Brown on the way in.

First is Rain's Terror with Lindsey, then Fargo with Scott, Mike with High Dollar, (an Exxon pup), then Lennie with Gray Ghost.  And they take a pass alone.  Zoe is here and nothing is new.

First is Caretti's Skywatch Rains Terror, Second is Lonestar's Fargo V Erynbrook, Third is Raylexmodagustybreezeshadyrock, (yes, that is how it is in the catalog and fourth is Millertimes American Gray Ghost of Falkrigia.

Bob is back on the microphone and doing his normal splendid job.  Nancy Hubbell is here and talking about her fantastic BOB at the Pre Show. Ne in come the 12-15 dogs.  I see the double handlers, and it is sort of quiet in here.

I did see Bill Peterson, who said he read the Blog. I still have no idea why anyone does read it, but maybe it amuses people that I can't spell, nor remember anyone.

I still think they should combine these classes. There are six dogs in there for this group.  I know there are some good ones, and some not so much, but it seems a small class for the national.  Tom Mesdag was here and he is working hard in the ring as he always does.

I saw Bill Leonard in Mc Donalds this morning. It is good to know he eats food just like us normal people. He is at the announcer's table talking to Bob this morning.  Later he might talk to me. Art is in the ring with Midnight Rider.  I always did like that dog.  Bob Freeny owns him and was just here to double handle.

lillie says "Go Team Phoenix".  That was Lillie Crowe, and she typed that.

Now, she is talking to Dick and her daughter went to USC in that state.  And, the judging goes on.  They are trying to copy the catalog.  There goes Bill Basu and now Liv is bringing her puppy.   That is the end of the class and Bob tells them to take them around. Tony is back but Bill Leonard had his seat, and did move.  He can brag he made Bill Leonard move.

He pulls Lennie, the Bill Basu, Liv and Lindsey.   And he looks at Art's dog, in Best of Dump position, down and back.  Bob goes to Bill Basu's and runs his hand down his back.  Off they go, at a walk. He moves Bill up front with Montego Bay, second is Lennie, then Olivia and Shotgun Willie in fourth. That is a good looking young male.  Off they go like that with No Reservations in Second and that is how it is.

First is Karizma's Mmontego Bay Von Loar, Second is Peter's Elite No Reservations  v Signature, Third is Aramist Signature's Mr Bigg's of Ali B's and Fourth is Tripphill's Shotgun Willie. It is too late to change it now, so everyone has to just accept what they got, or didn't get.

On to 15-18 males.

On going

Bob Slay came by. Ann Schultz walked by  ignoring me. I always said she was smart. There are handlers at the ready ring, and I now see Sue Godek with a great white jacket for today.  Galaxy's owner was talking to me about breeding. I didn't tell her I know nothing about dogs.  I have so much trouble bringing up names, so I will fill it in if the class isn't over.  I just noticed Nancy McDonald in the house.

I wonder if the entries are here this early, I don't see any dogs except for Diane Brown.  Dave Rinke is walking with his lovely wife, and Channing Sheets came over to sit with Zac and Lindsey. They are now the top couple handlers in California.  Of course, they are also the only couple.

Diane Brown and Tim Brown daughter is so cute. She stood at attention with her hand over her heart for the anthems.  Very moving. But, I am very tired this morning. I am not responsible for anything I say.  Of course, that is why this is the "Unofficial Blog".

Nancy Nellis is here walking with Nancy McDonald. I think the Nancys often hang together. Rita just came in all dressed up with diamonds aplenty.  Norma Hansberg is here early, and not introducing the judges. Not Norma, Tony did it.

The sound system is still not good, but HERE WE GO!

In they go, the 6 to 9 puppy dogs.

Nine in there now. Dick Jennings is here talking to me.  I see Pat Green and Dick's litter mate is in there. He has a super star puppy from Ann Schultz. I like the puppy, but he is extreme. Elizabeth Sieferman is in the ring and looks beautiful. She looks great, and I like the glasses.

Bob is doing the individuals.  Ann Schultz did talk to me, but her puppy is in the ring. Dan Dwier is here, and so is Jane Kerner, (not together).  I don't want to start any rumors.  Actually I do, but I can't think of anything yet.

I see Hallie is here now, new glasses and a new haircut. There sure is a lot of Man-U-Man progeny.  He dominates with Tuesday's Best of Breed and Winner's Bitch.  the seats are filling up, and Lennie is out there with Dizzy Gillespie.  Joyce Ebert is talking to Dan Dwier.  Ann Schultz is sitting with us and talking to Dick.  Mike is out there with Love Me Tenbear.  Again, guess the breeder.  I don't want to give it away, but I did get to say hello to Frank Frasano.

Dick just told me the king of Thailand died. I am fighting extradition for a Monk who they want there so they can kill him. This might change my situation. That is why I almost missed the national. That and a triple murder, where my 17 year old client is considered a possibility of doing in her parents.

I have to leave to go get Bob, Jim and Tedi.

Bob is done with individuals, and starts moving them around.  HeartBearake is up front followed by what was I thinkin, Love Me Tendbear, Shot thru the Heart, I'm on Fire, and Big Bad Wolf.  He lets the rest go.  So he is down to 6.  Another look, and some crowd applause for Wolf.  Its still early, and not much noise from the crowd, but they are starting to wake up after a late night last night (we didn't finish judging till after 10pm).

Another down and back for each, and some more movement.  Bob moves Shot thru the Heart to the front, followed by Love Me Tendbear, Big Bad Wolf.  Bob looks at just those 3.  Still lots of crowd noise for Bib Bad Wolf, but Bob leaves him in third.  One more move to put Shot Thru the Heart in front, and that the way it ends.  Shot Thru the Heart, What Was I Thinkin, Big Bad Wolf, and Heartbearake Hotel.

9-12
And now 9-12 Puppy Dogs enter the ring.  As soon as the 6-9 puppy dogs were out, the 9-12 went in.  So hopefully this means the show will run quicker this year.  There are 12 dogs in the rings; Bob splits the class in two and starts looking at the first half.  At the start of 6-9, none of the vendors were here; now all of the booths are open for business.  The stands are slowly filling up.

Bob is keeping both groups in the ring, but working them separately.

First up is Somalia with Kent Boyles, Skywatch Rains Terror with Lindsey Hudspeth, Tecate with Ken Tank, I'm a Star with Greg Eschette, Fargo with Scott Yergin, Macedonia, Gusty Breeze with Olivia Calabrese, High Dollar with Mike Sherman Don Equis with Jeff Pyle, , Modelo, Gray Ghost with Lenny Brown, and Superstar.  And now Bob starts the individual exams.  Some spotty interest in the dogs; but most people are using the lull in activity to say hi to people they haven't seen since the last National.

The individuals are done, and the crowd turns it attention back to the dogs.

Evan here. I just got back and so I will send this.

Early Thursday

I got here at seven, since they are starting at seven thirty.

Yesterday was a challenge.  I will try to space it out more today.

Tony and I got here together.  Bob (The Voice of The National) Dresher and Jim Hill decided with Tedi to come at 9:00, so I have to go back and get them at that time.

I did see Zack and Lindsey came by with Herding magazines. I also have the information for next years Canadian National. It is in Stratford, Ontario. It is done like Stratford in England and with lots of shops, etc. Very much  for tourists. The Judges are Michel Chaloux for F/M Females, Males and Intersex,  and Gloria Birch for F/M and Females.  That is a new location and it should be another Great Canadian National.  It is September 14, 15 and 16, 2007.  I may go there instead of this marathon energy sapping, challenge.

I did see Ricky Bartly yesterday, but didn't have time to talk. John Beamont is here doing the ring steward thing and I see Bill Tank walking around. I got to talk to Lew Bunch yesterday, that was fun.

I am sorry Ed Hill didn't make it. He can always make me laugh. I am pleased Dick Jennings got here. He is retiring from my office at the end of the year. That was a long run, I think over 30 years.   I doubt we will start on time, but I have to go back and pick up my friends anyway, so it doesn't matter.

I also miss Bobby. We always tried to get there first and often ended up coming at the same time. I heard the video feed was not working, but I can tell you, these people work hard. The camera is right behind me. I lean back and hit my head on the tripod.  I do that often to wake up. I think they are sick of me.

I love the smell of blow dryers in the morning.

Cindy Tellefson just walked in. and now some of those who woke up early are getting here. So, I will send this and wait for something interesting.

My personal rant

OK, here's the thing. We just go to the room at 11:00 pm. What bird brain decided to start the Futurity at five pm?  If you want to have seminars, have the Futurity/Maturity first, then the education with a dinner.  This is worse than stupid.

The owners and handlers are out walking and feeding dogs, and we start tomorrow at seven am.

The host hotel is less than a Motel Six. They have no food, and the bar closed at ten.  The room smells musty, and when we had them service the room, they didn't vacuum the rug.  Next time, if we ever have the National in St. Louis again, I am going to find a Motel Six.  Even with the kitchen closed, they didn't offer a discount.  No breakfast, but there is a McDonalds across the road, so that is not all bad.

On the other side, I saw a lot of great friends. I enjoyed seeing people like Tim Brown, and Maryellen Kish. Bob Kish is doing great, and I even saw Ann Schultz for a minute.  Bob (The Voice of The National), and I always have fun.  I got to talk to Martha Simonete, and she always can make me laugh. I look forward to seeing so many people. I suppose if I saw then more often I would not feel this way. Lin Ferguson is one of my favorites each year, and I am sorry George didn't join her. He did one year, and I enjoy talking to him. Of course Joan Fox always is one I like to see, and if you haven't met Murray, you are missing a great man.

I am so tired, I am ready to head home.  California sound great right now.  But, tomorrow is another day. With a good three hours of sleep, I will be ready to go at it again.  Tomorrow is the Annual Meeting and I promised Helen I would go. It could be interesting if they don't hold it in closed session.

Tomorrow is another day.  La De Da. La De Da.

Maturity Bitches

Pat Draper stopped to talk, and say how tired he is. I can't believe how Celeste is looking so good and not tired. Leanna and Liz are stopped to talk, more to Bob. I am used to being ignored.  Norma just came by.  And around go the bitches.  I have lost interest.  I am starting to see spots.

Bob takes them one at a time.  and some people are still awake.  We are thinking of ordering a pizza.

Lindsey  has a popular bitch Razzle Rosita. And around goes the group.  Now individual on the first bitch.  Man, this is cruel and unusual Dog Show.

I have been eating nonstop candy.  I need some insulin. Some cocaine would help too.  Bob and I have swapped locker room talk.  I guess we both are precluded from running for president.

Jessica Baldwin here! Evan needed a quick break!! Just saw Mike Sherman with Winsome's Vegas Shotstopbear. She looked fab!!!

Everyone is getting tired... 9:30PM here... but excited to see all the beautiful Fut/Mat dogs & bitches!! The Maturity dogs had a high packed competition presence! I wouldn't have wanted to be in Susan Godek's position! Lots of gorgeous bitches as well!!! This year's national is one tough competition!!!

Miss Tequila Rose is up with Cindy Tellefsen. Love that girl! She looked great!!

Lindsay is up with Norberges Razzle Rosirita of Clayfield. Razzle Rosirita looked stunning!!

What a beautiful line up of maturity bitches :)!!!!! Let's see what Mr. Bobby Slay does!

He made his cuts!! Raylex's Isles moda Chablis, Caretti's Disorderly Conduct, Todorhaus Trinity, Winsome's Vegas Shotstopbear, CH Caretti's Disturbin' The Peace, Liberty's to Thine Own Self Be True, & Norberges Razzle Rositia of Clayfield.

Pulled Lenny up front with Caretti's Disorderly Conduct up front. Todorhaus Trinity after her. Let's see....

And Mr. Bobby Slay points to.... CARETTI'S DISORDERLY CONDUCT!!! Way to go!!! followed by Todorhaus Trinity, Raylex's Isles Moda Chablis, and Winsome's Vegas Shotstopbear. Great job guys!!!

Okay... back to Evan!!!

Evan back, and you now have to listen to me.
I was sitting talking to Lin and she looks better than ever. Jesica looks great, so I hope she did a good job for you all.  She did that with long red finger nails and I was amazed.  Diane Brown and Tim are sitting together. Neither of them ages at all.  I might stop coming to the National so I don't have to see them age.

I did get to say a few word with Frank Fasano, and Chris is in front of me.  DD is talking to everyone while the Best and Best Opposite are being judged.

The crowd is loud for ten o'clock and he looks them over with Lennie and Zac, and there he goes it is not over yet, and he puts the bitch in front.  Yelling stomping of feet, cheers and Bob looks determined and he goes with the BITCH for Best in Maturity.

All that is left is Amateur Maturity.  I don't have it left in me, so I am signing off.

Lots of old friends, a few new ones, and fun watching. Jennifer was talking to me, and Paul and Jennifer are here. Tedi wants to go, so I am out.

Futurity dogs

It is eight o'clock and we are starting with the Maturity dogs.  I missed the amateur handlers' class. Tedi and I got the last two hamburgers before they closed.  Big mistake. I never had a burger with sawdust in it.

Bill Leonard is standing behind us, so I won't bring up politics. It is one long day.  We start at 7:30 each day, so it is going to be long week. Joyce Ebert came by, as Sue continues to look at the males. It may just be me, but the Futurity Dogs looked better.  Karen Taylor is here and everyone has settled down.  I was going to White Castle and get four dozen for everyone, but I ran  out of time. Maybe tomorrow.

I see more and more people whose name's I can't remember.  So, I asked Bob, and he is worse than me. I need someone younger to sit with me, but the younger people want to ignore me. Who said the youth don't have wisdom.

I find it interesting that Sue makes extensive note after each dog, but goes to the table to do it. Now it is Kent with DuChien's Honor Guard.  A Captain American son.  I would breed Kisses to Captain America, were she not his sister.  Ricky is here and Lindsey walked by.  More note taking by the judge. Jennifer Root is here, Paul can't be far behind. Paul just walk  That is the first group.

She is pulling, Lennie, then Kent, then Jeff.  It takes three of us to get the names.  Lennie has Code Red, Kent with Honor Guard, and Jeff with Excalibur.  And off go the three of them, walking. Around go the "Not To Be" for this year.  And, now they line up.  Six in there, and she marks the book with John as the ring steward, she sends them out to bring out the next group.

Pam O'Dell is walking in front of us, the board member, and Sue Godek is still going the individuals. Bob Mahia and Leanna New too, but not together.  Sherri Moses is at the table. Sherri stopped to talk, more t Bob, but I got to listen. Sherri gets more beautiful every year.

California Chrome is in there now, with Zac. He is a great dog.  Sue gave him a good look, I think she liked him and didn't write much.  I see Richard Sottile doubling his dog.  Sue tells him to take him around.

She puts Agon D Rancho in front with California Chrome in second.  I would think he would be hard to beat. Two California dogs.  They walk and they stay that way.  Midas Touch with Mike now with Galieo in Second behind him. The first four dogs are Califonia dogs.  Linda Ferguson stopped by.  Now she looks great, and is always fun to talk to.

California Chrome in FRONT. Then Agon, and the rest where go and she pulls Kent up with Honor Guard.   Chrome looks great and I think he will win.  Chrome looks fantastic and Sue goes to the front of the ring, looks at teh hear, and the rear. Then to the next one, Honor Guard, and now to the third, and stands back and now Galielo.  She sure does pick the best, and Chrome back and forth, or for Ed, down and back.  And, they all get a turn, she makes no changes so far.

They stack and she  stands back and looks them over.  She walks to the end and looks some more.  She sends all but the first two back and there they go, first Zac, then Bill, Mike, Art, Kent, Lennie, Jeff and Scott. That's it First was California Chrome, Second was Bomar Agon De Rancho Backachers, Third was Champion Rosewood's Mida touch of Kansten, (yesterday's Best of Breed), and Fourth was GCH Ch Rosewood's Galileo TC.

It is 9:00 pm and we haven't done the Maturity Bitches.  I am exhausted.  But, I live to serve you.

(no subject)

We just checked in at three in the morning. The good and bad news from the National.

The kitchen at the Host Hotel burned down, so there is no food here. That is good news, the food here was terrible in the past years. On the other hand, they didn't reduce the cost, so that is the bad news.

The good news is they rebuilt the White Castle.  I had two on the way to the room, it is just a few blocks from the Host Hotel.  The bad news is they  don't know the right pickle balance, so we have to work on that.

I guess I need to check out for the night, there is a dog show tomorrow, or rather, later today.

Evan

Futurity Bitches

Bob Slay lines them up in the center of the ring, and now send them to the side. Around go the bitches.  Two trips and Rita just walked by and Gail Stiffelman came by and kissed Bob.

Bob says, "Not too fast". We have the best seats in the house.  In the old days, it would have been roped off for the board. Carmen is here all dressed up.  And, in comes the second group. It got real quiet after the males left.  Unlike a bar after midnight.

Bob is checking them in and going over his list.  What a nice group of bitches. Liz Ostler came by and is talking to Bob.  Leslie is in the ring doing a great job, as normal.  I see Art Sinclair just walked in the ring late and is talking to Mike.

Bob is taking them one at a time, and insists on a loose lead.  Ed Hill's bitch just went around, an all black, and a real star. I have trouble judging a black. Maybe I should drive up to Furgeson, and talk to some of the dDemonstrators and get my head straight.

Done with the first group, and on to the second. I haven't seen any temperament problems, but since they all won Futurities, I guess they had to.

Rita is walking with two glasses of wine. I suppose they aren't both for her.  I spend a great deal of my time being bored at the National.  I might stay home next year and sort out my sock drawer. The crowd favors Zip-A-Do0-Dah with Kent.  She is special, and Eli daughter.

Miles of dogs to go before I sleep.

Diane Brown aged and is more beautiful than ever, She has the Winner's Bitch from the Canadian NationForevear Mine, you can guess who the breeders are.  Ginnie Altman was by, and says it is hard to understand the speaker.  That is because it is Tony and Bob, (The Voice of the National), They have not heard me yet.  And, there goes more of the bitches. and Now Alex for the loose lead temperament test.  The excitement is under whelming. Joyce Ebert just got a glass of wine, and no one is bringing anything to the announcer's table. Debbie Stern just walked by and in her infinite wisdom, ignored me.

Dick Jennings did make it here. I wish Ed had come.  Maybe the new board will make the National Great again. When are the debates?

Bob only watches them half of the ring, I guess he sees enough that way. Now it is Ed Hill's bitch.  Sharon, (used to be Earl), is at the table and giving her opinion about the important stuff. Lilly and goes to look at Oh-My and stands back.  That was out of order. Blame my computer.

Bob starts pulling bitches to the other side. He pulls four.  I suspect those are his winner's, but that leaves six from this group, and they take it around. Tim Brown made his fourth trip to the candy bowl, while Bob pulls two more, Alex and Art, and then there are six to the good group, and they are beautiful.  I like them all standing.  Off they go with Scott in front, I think I like Kent's the best, but I also like who Art has.

Bob lines the up and there they go, one at a time.  A nice sable, but smooth and easy, and Kent with Sweeter Than Hone.  The crowd cheers for Lilly.  They like Art's bitch too. And they line up. Bob liked Topic best, and he is a lot smarter than me. Better looking as well.

And they line up again and he wants to bring Mademoiselle out for a temperament test.  Jordon in front, Madomoselle, then Kent with Sweeter than Honey, and that is it with First Place Knight's Gambit Jordan II, Second WeLove DuChien's Sweeter Than Honey, Third was Windfall's & Luzak's LillyV Foxpond and fourth was Covy-Tucker Hill's Mademoiselle.,

On to more stuff.

Bob checks

End of the Futurity Dogs

The  Exxon dog looked great, but the judge didn't like him.  Sue Godek is looking them over, and wants a lose lead.  The handler on Playing With Fire needs to get him loose. He is all fired up, and yes, that is a pun. And there is her first group with Guns of Navarone in front. Kent behind and Scott and the other three. This is the first group.   Al Martin likes Playing With Fire best, and Bob and I agree, but Sue didn't ask us.

In comes the next group with the other Exxon brother in back.  They stand while She looks them over, and now on to the front.  Alex takes the lead, where he was,, and around they go.  Art has a nice dog but he won't settle down.

Eye of the Tiger in front with Alex.  Cappy and Gloria came be to say hello, and I see Pat Draper working to double. The Blkackk Knight is there and Tony is here without a seat.  ThSue stops them and lets them walk some more. ere goes Laurane, and Sue is making notes.  A Full Throttle son, You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet.  Defending Your Life is up next, the third Exxon son in this ring.

After each class Sue is making notes, and here is Art with the Exxon son, but not out of an Asgard bitch. The other two are out of Kierk's sister. Both groups are done, and Sue is checking her notes.

Alex and Mike to the front, The Asgard dog, (no, Exxon), is in second.  Celeste is going nuts.  Heat looks great, if I have the right nickname.  The Heat takes a dump, if that is the right name. Now he is lighter and should move better.  The other three take a pass, nice dogs, but not as good.  I like what Sue is doing and she is smiling and looking at the group.,  And, they walk, and Heat looks great to me.

Off goes Art, Lindsy and Jeff. Only the first three stay in.  Dump clean up time, and John Beamont is doing it with flair and grace.  They have to scrub the surface so it isn't easy.  It is a real project.

Now she looks at the second group, and now the first one again. and Heat looks better.  Sue walks to the first group, pulls two, and to the second group and pulls three.  Now she lines them up.  and looks them over.  I think you needed to be in front. She is looking at the last six, and I doubt they are going to win this, and no, they are out.

Now the five with dream still in the owner's minds and Heat ended up in fifth place, and now up to third. The first place dog is yesterday's Winner's dog, And a crowd pleaser. Kent in second. Now the other three with Heat in first.  Sue looks the  over and tells Mike, let him down. and Heat goes off. Guns of Navorone best, it might be a second amendment thing.  Guns vs Rifleman.

Sue wants to look over the first two.  And, there they go.  They switch and the crowd liked Kent's best.  He is a good worker and that is now a change with Gunsw of Navorone in front, The Heat in second. The crowd likes that and that is the way it goes, She counts off four. First is Guns of Navorone, Second was DuChien's American Rifleman Forever, third was Coastline's Fire Starter of Cherpa  Exxon to Kierk's Sister, (it is all about me), and fourth is She-Rock's Eye of the Tiger of Inquest.

It is going to be a long day.
