Bitch Specials

It is early on Saturday and the excitement is in the air. The arena is starting to come alive, and a lot of people are standing around with coffee, and quietly wondering what is going to go on. I saw Jake Jahelka, and talked for a minute to DD this morning, and also Richard Franklin, (Helen’s ex) came to support Helen. I also heard that Helen’s sister flew out as well.

I didn’t make the Lister’s party, we went to Frank and Chris’s open dinner. They had a full steak dinner for anyone who wanted to come. I think there might have been as many as 300 people there, and when we left Tedi couldn’t find her purse, so we are in semi-panic mode today. Someone might return it, but if not, we haven’t any idea how you get on a plane without ID. I know there is an answer to that, but we haven’t figured it out yet.  Cyndy  is here, and she came from the airlines so maybe she knows.  No, she has no answer, so we may call the airlines.

Pat Ayres came by and now Bob is here, and Tony already came and left. They are going to present the Juniors and I wanted to be here for that. Last night they had the Junior seminar, and I think there were 20 entered or so.

Friday evening was the highlight for me, as it always is.  That is when all the champions come into the ring without any grooming and the owners and all friends stand and watch. The handlers take them around in controlled chaos.  I saw some things I wanted to see, and some I didn’t want to. I do have to say, Elmo looked fantastic, and is going to be hard to beat. It is also going to be a hard decision with Army of One, and I think Rollins, (if he is shown) might be one of the contenders. There are a couple of others, certainly Antonio and even Guns and Roses, but we shall know in a while.

I did get to talk to The Famous Linda Bastistoni and she is here early and so is Bob Ghegleri.  Flower Boy is here and said he was looking for Tedi, I guess he is probably going to ask her about her ID. Now they are starting to file in, and I can feel the tension building.  The show to this point is just a dog show, but this is where the rubber meets the road. Daphane and Tony work like crazy all day, and seem to be eveywhere.

Greg Eshette came by to say hello, and I like his new beard and mustache. Now Bob Drescher is announcing the beginning of the final day.  Dick Whalen came by and he is looking like his old self.  The presentation is starting Lew, Nancy, Laurie,  Jake, (Harlow) and the winners from obedience are in the ring.  Tony is announcing the winners and he does a good job on the microphone.  Bob announced that Tony he and I were glad to see everyone. No one knows we are here or who we are, and he said since we had the microphone, he could do what he wanted to. Good for him.  Here comes Sally and Norma, not together.

The crowd is slowly filling in.  And out go the obedience winners. And Jake has to carry the silver, and now it begins.  Bob and Ileana enter the ring, to carry the table out.  What a great job the did, not dropping it.  Leslie is here and I see Fran and Joan are here first thing, and Joan looks better every day.

NOW THE MUSIC TO START THE SHOW:

The Junior handler, and everyone stands and applauds.  They go in with a dog to make a pass and I see twelve of them, and it is great to see such a good future for out sport. Lew Nancy Godek and Nancy Nellis in the center behind them as they stack the dogs. I am concernd that they are all girls, but for one young man. I wonder why that might be.

TEDI GOT HER PURSE BACK, SO ALL IS WELL.

Some stories about the national. About six months ago, Tedi was talking to a handler from back East, and he asked who she thought would win at the national? She said Elmo, and he said, “No, I mean, after Elmo.”  Dave Fritche told me that he was standing in the ring last night as all the champions go around, and she gasped and asked who one dog was, and he said, “That’s the Grand Victor this year, Elmo”.  I told those stories to Karen this morning, just to give her more to think about.  I so enjoy messing with her mind.

Jamie came to sit for a minute, she looks fantastic, (as she always does), and says she feels great, and is ready to start over.

In the ring they come, those magnificent animals. The bitches are in the ring, and what a good looking group.  Jane Kerner is talking to Bob about how hard we work and with no recognition. So, from now on be sure to come by and talk to Bob and Tony and say how great they are.  Helen has just asked for a microphone.  Now Bart Barkley and Gary Szmchzk are in the ring and going to recognize our great friends who are no longer with us.  Gary is ringing a bell for each name, and it is silent here, and I need a break.

Helen is talking to us now.  And she is wearing a red and mostly black outfit. She is talking about how important this is for us, and how everyone is a winner in the ring.  She requests that we pay tribute and admiration for them as they leave the ring, and we applaud them when they leave.  She

HERE WE GO

The first bitch is in there with Kent with Geneva,a nd she goes around. The crowd wakes up, and now it is Georgie with Firecracker, (Peanut), and he stacks her, and now Dania is here, and Cyndy is feeding me the names. I am lucky to remember who I am by this time. I was thinking about the comment Peter made about no one complaining about the judging while he was walking around. I think it probably is because the judging was so good.  Now it is Patty with Double Trouble.  Jake Jahelka came by to say goodby, he had to head home, and it was good to see him again.

Patty stacks her up, and she poses perfectly, and very stylish bitch.  Leslie now with Who’s Your Daddy.  For some reason she is out of order, and we have no idea why.  Another typy bitch, and Helen tells her to take her down and back.  Leslie is giving directions to her friends outside th ring, and she has her stand free.  Helen gives a direction and off she goes.  Helen has a note pad and pen, and makes a notation, and watches her take a pass.

Now it’s Alex with Angelina, and she stands fine for the loose lead. Bill Tank just came by,a nd the seats are full and the bleachers are about half full, so there is plenty of room. Mike Cheeks came by, and Helen gives Alex some directions and off he goes.

Helen is in black slacks, and a top that is almost black but some red, and she looks good.  And she makes a note. She must have a system, because she is not writing anything.  Gail Hardcastle came by to say hello.

Helen tells them to take these five around one at a time and stop on the other side, and she now tells the rest of them to go, but she is spacing them about a quarter of the ring, and she watches each of the.  She makes a mark and now the next five, and Helen marks something as she looks at them. I think she is writing down the numbers.

She tells them to go around, and it is Julie, Liz, Trish, The Guz Steve Granger.  Julie is with Cuz I Can, Tough Decision bred to Cuz I Want to.  Ralph just got here and is talking to Jimmy, and they are together talking about old times.

Now it is Liz with True Calling, a Snake daughter, and she takes her first pass.  Up next is Tish Wylie with Brandy, and a Dallas daughter. Cyndy is doing a good job feeding me information, but I can’t listen to everyone, so I might be making mistakes, (shut up Paul) and so don’t depend on anything you read here.

Helen gives Tish some directions and Tish laughs and goes down and back. Fred goes by and looks like a long night on a short morning.  Tish does it again. Helen makes a note, and sends her around.  This bitch was high select last year.

The Guz has Tanqueray and good sable, and a bitch I know well. He sets a dog or bitch up better than any other person I have ever seen. Bill Lenord goes by and ignores us all.  Jerry is resplendent in tan slacks and a blue blazer. Lauren came by and people like his bitch.

There goes Steve Granger with Sassy, a GQ daughter.  She is a very dark black and tan.  The individual is going on, and Helen is giving him directions.  You know, Steve is a good handler, and he adjusts the lead, and off he goes. Helen is starting to relax.

That’s the group, and they stack and Helen looks them over, and tells them to go one at a time, but she wants to space them, so she will tell each one when to go. She gives a big smile, and off goes Julie.

The next group comes in and it is Scottie, then Art, Gail (MY HERO) and Fred and Lori. There they go, and I like Art’s bitch, but what do I know?  It is so good to see Gail in there again, we used to handle together, how come she is still there and I am not?

First is Scottie with Madison Avenue, who has been select before.   The crowd likes her, of course.

At the Lister’s party, Louie won three packs of Mary Kay, so everyone is smelling him today.

They raised $800 for rescue, and it was a good party, so I am told.

Now with Art is Start The Commotion, who was Best Opposite in Maturity, and has been burning up the shows in California. It is so good to see Art, this is the first national since Linda died, and I know it is hard for him. The last time she was here, at a national, it was here in Missouri. Michael Cheeks is here to give us all a hard time. Jim Spicer came by to pick up his other glove. We work so hard to unite people with lost items.

Now Gail goes out with Ariel, and Helen is grinning and telling Gail what to do. Bob is with his white suit, and a purple tie.  Gail goes down and back and she looks like she did thirty years ago. I have had breakfast with her a couple of mornings, and she seems just like she always did, and there she goes, running like a youngster. I am so proud of her. Kim Schooly is here now, talking to us. Gloria came by to kibitz for a bit.

Now it is Fred with Worth It owned by Emily and Frank DeBem.  My color commentator is Bob who seems to know all sorts of weird facts.  We overheard yesterday Ralph tell Helen that for every 30 seconds you add to each dog, makes an hour in your judging.  A good point. There goes Fred, and the crowd likes that one.

Now we have Lorie with Jade.  A Dallas daughter, bred John and Christine Gibbons, our Canadian photographer.  Ken Tank came by and waved.  The crowd is sitting waiting for the real stuff, the cuts, to begin.  And down and back goes Jade.  Where we are sitting is in the center of the arena, and about five feet up, and we have the best seats in the house. Everyone comes by here at one time or another.  There goes Lorie.

Dave Coleman is here, and seems intent, and is doubling his Maturity winner. Helen makes a note, looks them over from front to back and walks to the back and tells them to take them around, but to space them, and she will tell them when to go.  There they go, and I keep watching Gail.

Helen watches them front to back and gives each a good look. She is moving right along, and here is the next group, with Feeling luck, then Greg, Jack, Jeff and Christi.  Now the first bitch with the unknown handler, (no, he doesn’t have a bag over his head, but with all the years here in the booth, no one knows how he is.  Bob, the color guy here said it is Fred Freeman. But, he is doing a good job.  Greg is up with Loving And Freedom.  Helen is doing a good loose lead test and so far, everyone is doing well.

Jack is now in the center with Show Boat, a Paper Chase daughter.  She looks good.

It is Jeff now with Sagebrush.  And she is not happy about her teeth being looked at.  She is owned by John and Terry Ayotte.  A very nice sable,   Helen has him take her around and Jeff give directions to someone not double handling, outside the ring. Double handling is not allowed, as we all know.

The crowd likes her, and it is easy tosee why. She does present a very pretty picture against the white wall.

Christy comes in with Bearis Hilton, owned by the every popular Frasanos.  Out of Danny Boy, who was bred by Nancy Harper. Helen takes some time to look her over, and tells Christy to take her down and back.

Now the next group.  Diane in front, Cindi, then Lourie, Channing, and a very pretty blond girl, and Joanne in the back. Cindy has her phone on, and she needs to understand that at this level of the Blog, she can’t be taking phone calls.  Diane has Calypso, and goes out for the individuals. And now a pass.

Cindy with Jenny From The Block, and another Elmo daughter.  She is a very dark bitch and Cindy has a purple smock.  I remember when she finished, and I watched her campaign.  Good friends and a nice bitch.

This is Dania taking over for Evan while he is socializing for a while.  Next up is Laurie with Happyanunoit.  She was number two Select, and I saw her a few weeks ago, and she looked just terrific. She is so pretty set up, and moves great. She might be one of the top Selects this year.  Laurie tell Ann to move, she was standing right here, and YES, that is a crowd favorite. What a bitch!  She hasn’t lost a step, and if she keeps that up, she is going to be the one.

Channing has Amanda, a Dallas daughter.  And now we have a young blonde girl (lots of speculation in our midst as to who she is and what is her name) - and she has Hadori’s When Its Love.    Then comes Joanne Corbin with You Ain’t Seeing Nothing of Eden - a move up from the Am Bred class - and this is the end of this group.  Well.... Cindy just found the mystery blonde girl’s name and she is Elizabeth Steifferman - the talented junior. Lots of applause as this group takes the final lap.

Somehow, the first group is back but we have not seeing the other half of the bitches - I wonder what happened.  We are confused. Helen takes Kent in for a temperament test and an individual exam.  And one of the stewards came in and is talking to the judge.  Helen goes back and is huddled with the handlers and then dismisses the group.  It was a mistake.  We seem to have a bit of confusion and now the rest of the group comes into the ring now and it is in the right sequence.  Helen takes the microphone and addresses the audience commenting what a nice group of bitches.

First bitch from this group is Solana’s Into the Fire with Eric Norby.  Now we have Norberg’s Sparkles Plenty with Phillip Moore handling.  Next is Shawn Conboy with Fellsway Shania Twain.  We hear applauses - everyone has a favorite.  Next is Olivia with Ekolan’s EJM Athena v Cypress - Helen takes her time making sure the bitch is not being doubled for the temperament test - all is well...  It is a very typey bitch and it belongs to my good friend Dr. King.  Next is Sergio with Castlehill’s Tuff Cookie owned by Patty Korsch - what a pretty grey sable - I loved her mother, Guido.  This is the end of the individuals for this group and Helen takes them around for a lap around the ring.

Now we have the next group lead by Morris Bartucci  with C.T. Dream A Lil Dream.  Next is Bill Tank with Windy Acres Oh My.  Then it is Kaleef’s All About Eve owned by James and Sherree Moses with Ken Tank (now.... that is an East Coast/West Coast partnership).  Next is Kaleef’s Jezabel with Terri Hower - another Dallas daughter.  Now is Chrstine Szparaga (sp?) with Janry’s Ayla Aura of Ivana.  Last one in this group is Tiffany with Caralon Derouse Bad to the Bone.  The group is now all set and looking pretty and Helen is looking.  As with the other group, she takes them around all together as a group.

Next group is led by Joelle’s Take Another Look with Ashley Douglas with Joelle‘s Take Another Look.  Then Kaiser Lock-N-Load with Melissa Chavez.  It is wonderful to see the young people involved in the sport -we need them - they are the FUTURE.  And now we have Lenny - one of the young ones - he has Jantar’s Chyna Lake.  Cindy brought me a chicken salad sandwich (huuhmmmmm - I am hungry - I am ALWAYS hungry).  Ohhh...nooo... one of my favorites is not here - Hayshills Tiramisu (bummer !!!).  Next is Jezra’s I knew if Scherzar with Ben.  And then Jamie Klute with Top Brass Just-A-Vision.

Now we have what I think is the last group.  Leading the group is Marquis Blonde Bombshell with Kelly Savala and this is a favorite of the crowd - lots of applause as she goes around.  Next is Mike Sherman with Marquis Here I am v Surigo - again lots of applause.  Now we have in the ring Trafalgar’s Pacific Chai with Bill Basu - one of her puppies when bred to Rollins won the 6-9 Puppy dog class two days ago.  Now we have a move up - Norhaus Better Be Worth it.  Then the Veteran Bitch (7-9 yrs old) Joelle’s Beatrice v Diamond - we don’t know the handler but Evan is speculating that it is an European handler - I think his reasoning is flawed.  Now we have the OTHER Veteran Bitch (9-11 yrs) Dusky Sally Zu Apfelsine - nice to see the ol’ gal going around the ring. She is a solid black.  Evan asked me if she was dyed.... I think he has a sick sense of humor.   Then comes the WB, Shadyrock’s Dancing Doll with Nick Fedorow - lots of applause.  The group takes that group together.  It is now 10:45am and we have completed the individuals for all bitches.

The first half of the bitches are now back in the ring.  Helen pulled out Firecracker, Happyunowit , Amanda, When it is Love, Start the Commotion, Tuff Cookie, Jezebel, Lock-N-Load, Here I am.  Now Helen is walking back and forth trying to decide who else - looking at her notes, looking back again and moving to the front.  Helen dismissed he rest of the dogs.   This was one BIG CUT. I am soooo surprised - no second chance for the dogs dismissed..  The crowd is stunned.

And now there are only eleven left in the ring.  You have better looked good on that first round.  She brings all the bitches to the middle of the ring and has them lined up - looks like she gave this some thought and decided to be “decisive’ - she moved Happyunit to the front, followed by Tuff Cookie, Here I am and Jezebel next.  She moves Start the Commotion into sixth place behind Jezebel.  The ring steward is standing with Helen and talking. And Helen is looking at the group carefully.  Here they go together taking a lap.  She is looking over and moves Start the Commotion one up to fifth place.  Helen looks and ask the last six to stand by the wall and she looks at the first five and wants to see them go around.  There goes Lori with Happy.  Happy looks great - easy moving.  Helen keeps looking and everyone is set up looking beautifully and then she moves Tuff Cookie in front and is looking at Start the Commotion who is posed like a statue.  Moves Jezebel with Terry Howard into third.  There they go.... Sergio is leading with Tuff Cookie.  She puts those five aside and brought the last six that were sitting by the wall.  Helen let the last one go, Lock-N-Load left the ring.  Helen now has ten left in the ring.  She has them set up and one end of the room and takes Sinclair with Start the Commotion to third.
Here they go with Sergio leading with Cookie, followed by Happyunoit.  AND THAT IS IT !!!!!! Fastest judging I have ever seen.    Tuff Cookie is the Gvx
Here is the order:
